Steam sale thread: Summer 2017 Edition

I wound up with the following:

  • Hotline Miami
  • Euro Truck Simulator 2
  • GTA Complete Pack
  • Rayman Origins
  • Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Bundle
  • Dragon's Lair
  • Torchlight 1 and 2
  • Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon

I don't think I'm done either because I wanna see what shows up during the next refresh as I'm waiting to see if DA: Origins goes back down, and I'm seriously considering Starforge.

I'm done with the Steam Summer Sale but I'm not done with the Amazon Summer Sale. I ended up with 6 games just a tad bit over 32 bucks. It was well under my budget of $80.

  1. Hotline Miami
  2. Fallout New Vegas
  3. Tomb Raider
  4. Hitman Absolution
  5. Audio Surf
  6. Test Drive Unlimited 2

To buy Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, or not to buy it... That is the question I can't asnwer for myself. Is it any good? Does it require any online BS? How well does the game run?

I am planning to get before the day is out:

Battlefield Bad Company 2 - $9.99 (Hopefully there is a actual community that plays it)

I imagine there will be, there still is on PS3 (according to my brother) so, yeah.

the bundle itself was more expensive (!)

Yeah, they do that a lot... It always pays to check. Just Cause 2 is amazing though, I must've spent over 150 hours on it and I've just started ANOTHER playthrough on my PS3. Which I'm actually playing right this minute.

I really liked Blood Dragon, it's not very long (5 hours) and is singleplayer only, but if you like 80's sci-fi films and don't mind a lot of unnecessary swearing, it's really good. It also introduces a couple of things Far Cry 3 didn't have - the main, most important one being the Blood Dragons that can be lured to attack enemies - whilst at the same time stripping a lot away. No wing suit, no skill trees (there is a skill ladder, but points are automatically assigned as you level up so it's a bit meh), but you can still upgrade weapons which is nice. As far as I recall the only DRM is Steam and uPlay, no always-on stuff like they used to have.

Thanks for the detailed answer mate. 👍
Just one last question. Is it open world like the original?

Yeah, but the world isn't huge. I think it's big enough, though. Missions are linear, however, if you stray too far from the area then you'll fail the mission. It was one of the biggest criticisms of Far Cry 3 and it's still in Blood Dragon. Also I don't know if you're able to reset outposts in Blood Dragon, they patched in the ability to do that in Far Cry 3, that's a shame because I think taking over outposts is probably one of the most entertaining things in the game.

Yeah, I'm done for this sale. Would enjoy Kerbal Space Program or Prison Architect but I've already spent enough money and have enough games for ages.

It looks like this summer sale wasn't much of a success like last year's.

That being said, everyone looks like they had a nice haul!

I ended up with:

  1. Borderland 2
  2. Hotline Miami
  3. Bionic Commando Rearmed
  4. To the Moon
  5. Just Cause 2
  6. The Walking Dead
  7. FTL
  8. XCOM
  9. Mirror's Edge
  10. Organ Trail

And spent a total of $68.74.

I got:

-Dishonored
-Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition
-Fallout New Vegas Ultimate edition
-Garry's mod
-Just Cause 2
-Serious Sam collection
-Sim City 4 Deluxe
-Tomb Raider
-Tropico 4-somethingorother bundle edition thing

I also got Castle Crashers, Payday and Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army gifted to me for co-op reasons.

Ok, so I ended up with the following

Hotline Miami
Antichamber
Thomas Was Alone
To The Moon
Tomb Raider
Fallout New Vegas
Dishonored
Max Payne 3
Sleeping Dogs
Bastion
SimCity 4 Deluxe
Euro Truck Simulator 2
GTA Complete Pack
Rayman Origins
Chivalry Medieval Warfare
Just Cause 2
Payday The Heist
Final Fantasy VII
Borderlands 2

Came to a total of £84.75 which I think is excellent value for those games.

Only a couple of small regrets, I should have picked up Fez and Dust probably.

Civ 5 complete
Dishonored
Worms!

Small amount, only just finished building my gaming rig. Should keep me going for a little bit.

My Steam summersale:

Euro Truck Simulator 2 - €14,99 EUR - Because awesomeness.
Surgeon Simulator - €3,39 EUR - Because it's hilarious bad. :P
Arma II: Combined Operations (ROW) - €6,79 EUR (bought for a friend of mine so we can play DayZ together)
Counter-Strike Complete - €5,74 EUR - Because old times. ;)

Total of €30,91 EUR.

That's it. Not much games this summer, but this fall will knock me over with good games.

I ended up getting Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 (amazing and addictive), Torchlight 2 and Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War 2 Retribution. Pretty restrained for me, there were a whole bunch of other games I wanted but I managed to keep my wallet shut.

Christmas though I will be ready for it!

Man, too bad you didn't buy a racing game you could've said "Because racecar".

My haul was

-Euro truck simulator
-Garry's Mod
-Civ5 Complete
-KotOR 1
-Natural Selection 2
-All the counterstrike
-Dungeonland
-Bastion
-Audiosurf
-Total War: Shogun 2
-Just Cause 2
.....

i got a lot T-T

I only purchased one game during the sale, I think it is the first time I have done that.

I got "Assassins Creed II" as I saw many believe it is the best game in the series, I have not played any of the others so I do not have a relationship to the franchise. Also I really wanted "Dishonored" and "Eurotruck Simulator 2013" but I skipped them now I will just add them to the list so I get them later as I already have a nice backlog of games I have not finished on Steam.

I ended up with way more games than planned:

Hotline Miami (gotta see what the fuss is about)
FTL
Just Cause 2 (To cheap to ignore)
The Walking Dead
Might and Magic Heroes VI - Shades of Darkness (gotta get Shades since I've spent 200hours on Heroes 6)
Tomb Raider (another "what the fuss is about" game)
Risen 2
The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing + DLC (A game I got my eyes on before release. Looking forward to playing it alot)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (I really am not convinced at all but too many has said too many great things and it was dirt cheap at 85% off)
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (Since it was cheap and other people on forums got it and I remember liking the original so...)
Torchlight 2

That brought my Steam list of games to 100 exactly although it's not true since demos and stuff are in the count.

I got Deux Ex: Human Revolution and two copies of Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, one for a friend.

It would seem we all did quite well from this particular sale, no one bought a certifiably insane amount of stuff and only one of us got War Z/Infested: Survivor Stories (right? Or are there more of you who just aren't admitting to it?), so I'd call that a success all round. Don't ask me how you can win at sales, but however you do it, we did it.

It would seem that this sale wasn't great this year but the daily deals since then have actually been interesting, in previous years we've had nothing but shovelware for a few weeks after. Maybe Valve have realised they can have a constant cash flow this way?

Anyway, I guess there's not much else to be said for now, so we simply must do this again in October for the Halloween sale!

Yeah, it was, but it'll be back. And it'll be cheaper next time. And it'll still be a shoddy port that takes some effort to become PC-friendly.

Wasn't the only issue the framerate, which was fixed with a mod? And dangit, missed the sale. I want a physical copy anyway, though..

*sigh

Well there's still the fact it's awful with a keyboard and mouse (fixable with a 360 controller) and the rendering resolution is hilariously tiny (fixable with the same mod that fixes the frame rate, it's called DSFix for future reference). The problem is that the mod can be tricky to get working properly, it doesn't seem to let you alter the rendering resolution from the default 1920x1080, which is fine for most people, but I couldn't get it to drop down to 1680x1050. Instead it was downsampling 1920x1080, so it looked a bit weird, and it was also letterboxed because of the different aspect ratios.

So, yeah, you might be lucky and it might work fine first time, but as far as I can tell you need a 1080p monitor and a 360 controller. Not a huge deal seeing as both are pretty standard for PC gaming now, but, yes.
