Steam sale thread: Summer 2017 Edition

@LeGeNd-1 for 2000 bucks you can get yourself a great desktop pc, GTX970 and i7 should cost a lot less even. I would go for that unless you really need a laptop.

With all of that it'll be a pretty heavy PC. You could get a compact case like the Bitfenix Prodigy and shove it all in there but even then you'll need a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Or you can get Alienware's Graphics Amplifier thingy but I think that needs an Alienware laptop, and you need to spend more for a desktop GPU.

I just picked up:
  • Fallout 3 - Game of the Year
  • Fallout New Vegas Ultimate
  • One Finger Death Punch
And with that, I am going to try and not buy anything else this sale.

I bought FlatOut 2, Grid and CS:GO. I was planning on getting Driver: San Francisco, but I missed out when it was 75% off. I might buy it some other time.

Thanks for the suggestions guys 👍 Yeah I know you can get better performance for less on a desktop, but I really need to mobility of a laptop unfortunately. My old laptop needs replacing so I'm gonna buy one anyway. In 2-3 years it will be obsolete, but by then hopefully things will settle down for me and I can build a proper gaming PC, leaving the laptop for non-gaming uses. Sucks for now but it'll work out in the end hopefully :P

Well, it seems that they closed with Steam Sales. 48 hours additional super-sale of the best sellers of the week, but it's over, no more new games.

After just realizing today was the last day (I thought it was tomorrow) I picked up the Halo Spartan Bundle, Borderlands 1 and 2 both GOTY editions, Goat Simulator and GoatZ, and DMC 4 Special Edition.

Of course, I have Arkham Knight waiting to be installed so this is going to be a fun month/summer.

I actually made it through the Summer Sale without buying anything. I'm surprised...

Pretty busy with what I already have, though, that made it easier. :D

/edit:
I might have created a monster, though.

I introduced my girlfriend to Steam Sales. She's not much of a gamer, but, you know, women and sales... Never a good combination :scared:

I really shouldn't have bought Goat Simulator just as I'm starting my second year of A Levels.

I also picked up Ori and the Blind Forest and The Talos Principle.

Stupid sales and stupid money in my wallet. I hate both circumstances.

I also got The Talos Principle... Spoiler: It's brilliant.

----

I also got Enslaved: Odyessy to the West; Portal; Portal 2; MX Vs ATV Unleashed (because nostalgia), and Saints Row: The Third. Good thing I have unlimited internet now.

If Arma 3 is still on sale.... buy it! :D

Did someone say Arma 3?

In other words, yeah, Arma 3 is definitely worth picking up. It's not on sale on Steam, but the next best thing - Arma 2 and all the DLC - is available pretty cheap. Sadly it's really badly optimised, the controls are super weird and it's generally not as good as Arma 3 in any way (except the use of real-life weapons and gear, Arma 3 is a near-future thing so it's all unlicensed stuff).

About this new Holiday sale, I have a question:
Already stated that there won't be "daily" and "flash" uber-sales, the highlights in first page are just to make us notice on the best sellers, most interesting, etc. But what about those games, like The Crew, that have absolutely no discount? They will have later next days or as it got a price reduction, it is considered already on sale, without anything more?

@Flaren89 I would assume that any discounts that are already applied will remain the same and while I doubt any games currently without discounts will get discounts later, it might be worth waiting until the end of the sale before buying anything that doesn't have a discount just in case.

I've just bought Convoy and Dying Light, this is the first time since I got my current job that a sale has happened after pay day (instead of ending right before it!) so I thought hey, might as well splash out a little. I'm not convinced the other stuff on my wishlist is worth buying, though, mainly because it's either expensive simulators like X-Plane 10 or AeroFly RC, AAA games that I didn't want badly enough to buy at full price so I'll wait for a better discount (like Just Cause 3 and Fallout 4) or indie games that are likely to get bundled at some point - Convoy was one of those, but the fact that loads of my Steam friends want it but only one (who is a Valve employee who doesn't have to pay for games) actually owns it kind of made me curious.

Also I had about £1 from trading card sales so I, uh... I bought a Payday 2 skin. A mint condition stat boost Cosmonaut skin for the Loco 12G, I'm considering trying a ghostforcer silenced shotgun build so the added concealment would be great, but maybe the Judge would be better. I don't know.

Highlighted Deals are the old "Daily" deals. They'll change every day. Everything else is the normal discounts. Wait for the things you want to be on the highlighted deals to get the most out of the sale.

As said in all of Steam forums, reddit, etc, there aren't any flash and daily deals this time, like in autumn sales. Already checked with yesterday's highlighted MGS Phantom Pain and the price is the same, even now it is not highlighted anymore. This year the highlight works just to, literally, highlightning the most interesting deals, some per day.

Yeah, and they're reinforced that with the free trading cards for 'exploring your discovery queue' or whatever - Literally (indirectly) paying you to do the digital equivalent of walking through a shop, kind of like an Ikea conveyor belt-style internet shopping experience. Smart, especially since everything I've seen in my queue is only there because it's either popular, new or discounted; nothing is there because it's similar to other games I play, is owned by a lot of my friends or has good review scores (which is usually how it works outside of the sale).

Just a warning steam is having serious issues right now, the store keeps displaying in different languages. Worryingly some people are reporting that they can see other peoples account information.

EDIT: my god steam is broke I'm currently looking at someone else's account. just go to the website and try login it won't let you put randomly shows others accounts. I looked in a persons cart and was able to see name address and telephone number I think steam are goin to get in big trouble for this.

And this is why I never save my card info, just in case something like this happens. Hell, maybe it's not as serious as it appears, but the fact that some random guy's account info is staring at me in the face...

Yeah I just got another persons email account as well. Also when viewing any of the screenshots via Steam they will fail to load.

It's a caching issue on their end. Don't visit the store page or any other steam site until it's confirmed to be no longer an issue.

Basically, play games, talk to friends, and not much else.

Yeah, it's bad, I've seen about 7 or 8 different accounts so far while trying to access my own info, so that I can delete everything from it. Not getting anywhere yet. :scared:
