Steam sale thread: Summer 2017 Edition

Thanks to those sales, I finally cleared out my "games to get one day" list a bit with Alan Wake, Arkham City and Mirrors Edge... all together for a Twenny, alright! :D

Now only Dishonored and LBP Karting (replaced ModNation Racers) remain on said list and I m probably busy until Last of Us drops. Bueno!

Dishonored is definitely worth every penny - even if you'd buy it at the normal price.

I agree, it's quite special. Like Bioshock the world is very convincing, and although you're maybe a little overpowered in combat it's a lot of fun to work out new approaches to situations. It reminds me a little of Deus Ex actually and that's never a bad thing.

Well the sale has been pretty poor so far. I've bought:

GT Legends
GTR2
Thirty Flights of Loving
Rage: The Scorchers DLC
Ghost Recon Future Soldier Deluxe Edition (don't ask why because I don't really know)
And the three Precipice of Darkness games.

From outside of Steam I got Stealth Bastard Deluxe (deal's been and gone, sorry) and Sleeping Dogs from Green Man Gaming: http://savygamer.co.uk/2012/12/22/sleeping-dogs-limited-edition-pc-7-14/. £7.14 but with £3 cash back or £4 credit on GMG, so £4.14 for me as I chose the cash.

Also, Get Games has XCOM at 50% off instead of Steam's 33%. I don't think much else is really going on right now but then I do own most things so I'm not looking at everything.

I got the Simbin bundle (though I already had GTR 2), crazy ammount of content available there, not sure what I make of Race 07 but it seems like I will be able to have some fun with it.

Word of warning about GTR 2, I installed it for the convenience of a steam version only to find it does not include the Porsche or Ferrari cars that the retail version has.

Apparently there is a way around that, I've not had time to try yet but SimonK posted instructions earlier in the thread. And Race 07 is great, Macau in the International Formula Master and the Retro Hill Climb in the Formula BMW are pretty fun. The AE86 Club mod for rFactor was ported too if you're into that sort of thing.

Annoyingly so, I missed the start of the Steam Christmas sale.

However, I have relocated to Shanghai and all the prices are in US dollars. Now, I assume there will be a currency charge whenever I want to buy stuff (which I accept), however I'm trying to figure out whether some stuff is cheaper or more expensive than the UK version!

Some of the prices, when converted, aren't really all interesting to write home about....

I decided to just stick with the retail GTR2 and sacrificed my Steam version for the Power and Glory 3 mod/conversion! Played GT Legends a bit today, it doesn't support all the buttons on my G27 (though Race 07/GTR 2 do). Otherwise I thought it was great fun, physics/graphics/car models/tracks are not of the same quality as SimRaceway by quite a margin, but for a really content packed game it is awesome value for money.

Racing against the AI was much like Rfactor to be honest, they are ridiculously (impossibly?) fast at some stuff while being slow through other sections, overall they are a bit bland to race against even if they are really fast.

Back to the steam sales, £7.99 for The Witcher 2 seems like a bargain, might grab that myself!

Got my hands on the Stalker collection for only 5.99€. :D

Really wanted those games, and finally found a bargain worthy getting. ;)

Think I might get the walking dead, thoughts on price? It's £10.49

I already have, I've heard good things but I haven't played it yet.

And STALKER is excellent, if you like the last two Fallouts but wished they were a bit weirder then you'll probably want to have a look.

Wait, seriously?! Those 2 companies practically make up half the car list. :dunce:

Picked up SC4 Deluxe. I have the retail disc somewhere around my house, but this should hold me over just until SC5 comes out.

Bought Deus Ex: Human Revolution and GTR1 on the opening day of the sale, yesterday I bought the Dawn of War franchise pack and Psychonauts (gifted to a friend, friend also gifted Psychonauts to me in return... Steam badges, y0).

There isn't anything I explicitly want on Steam at this point, so any purchases will be compulsive bargain buys - but I'll hopefully keep them to a minimum as I need to save as much money as I can in order to fix my car :(

Just bought the Portal and Portal 2 bundle for £4.34. Not bad.

Tempted myself.

A new deal is Saints Row the Third full package/all dlc for £6.24. I've heard its a good game.

So probably going to get Walking Dead, portal bundle and Saints Row full package.

Well, I just bought Day of Defeat: Source at 50% off...

Got really good memories from the original Day of Defeat, and even though not that many people are playing it anymore, I got it to have it. :)

I just bought the Simbin bundle for €17.47, it will take me a while to load all of it though.

Apart from The Walking Dead I also decided to pick up Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (as it's £1.74 and I liked the game either side of it) and a few Killing Floor DLCs; Ash Harding, the chicken guy, the robot and the community weapons pack. Thinking of grabbing Shank 2 but if I do it'll be via the Humble Bundle.

Oh and another thing: Do NOT buy Gish! Or at least research it first. I've never heard a single good word about it. I have it (from a previous indie bundle, incidentally) but I've never played it, too put off by all the hate.

How the streets of rage games play on PC?

I still own I/II on the Megadrive somewhere, but somehow never played III and would like to at least get that.

The only Mega Drive game I have on Steam is Vectorman, so I can't really comment on SoR, but it plays identically to the original. The emulator they use is very good but I haven't played for long enough to give any insight into its stability, I just recall thinking it was exactly as I remember it. I wouldn't be surprised if this applies to all of the available Mega Drive games.

You've just reminded me, there's a rumour going around (backed up by recent new entries in Steam's registry of games) that Sega will release a Sonic pack, possibly during this sale, containing all of the games featuring the implausibly fast, unrealistically blue hedgehog. I'm waiting to see how much it is, I'd quite like the first three and the two Sonic Adventures but I don't want to pay much for them because emulators.

I think SOR is on the PS Store too, I think I got it free from Playstation Plus, though not checked it out yet. They went through a phase of giving away a bunch of Megadrive ports including Golden Axe, and various Sonics, which was nice.

EDIT: Though it's a Megadrive port rather than Arcade. I use my old modded xbox with MAME if I want real authenticity =)

Streets if Rage never came out in the arcades in the sense that the "arcade" version wouldn't be any better.

I'm thinking about picking up Portal and Portal 2. I've all but given up on finding a PS3 version of the second, and it would be nice to play the first game again.

Steam must be getting hammered; I can't access the store through Steam or through the website.

The latter of which won't load, period.

Steam is working well here, downloading pretty fast.

Well, Walking Dead is absolutely fantastic. I expected it to be good and impactful but man they exceeded my expectations, great pacing. Still got some episodes left and hear it gets even better.

Luckily I bought it through recommendations I heard on podcasts and haven't read any spoilers or info on the game.

I do have emulators on my xp machine. I wouldn't bother with Golden Axe megadrive version as I know first hand how poor they are to arcade games but SoR is megadrive only and the third I didn't play and would like to play it via steam.
