Steam sale thread: Summer 2017 Edition

Does anyone have Deadlight? Is it any good?

It's 50% off now, and at 5.99€ it looks interesting. ;)

It's a fun little game, nothing groundbreaking, it's just good fun to play. I've only got about 30 minutes into it though, the novelty might wear thin pretty soon.

I bought Sonic Adventure 2 for £2.99, always wanted to play this on my Dreamcast, it's expensive as hell to get a Dreamcast copy these days (basically the same price as it was 10+ years ago) so £2.99 seemed like a bargain!

Also got Deus Ex Human Revolution, still waiting to see if Witcher 2 drops even lower in price. I hate the steam sales, because I dont want to spend money but sometimes they just seem too good to pass on, half the time I end up not even playing the games anyway, too many games and too little time!

Some cheap fun with Sonic:tup:

Well seeing as I'm using a Mac there are limited games at the moment that I want to play. Anywho I picked up HL:2 plus Ep1 & 2 also. I've got the orange box for PS3 but love FPS using mouse and keyboard.

If you haven't bought it in a previous sale like me then Worms Crazy Golf is easily worth the current price of £1.56. Fun game.

Gah, more terrible terribleness. Kind of curious about The Witcher 2 but I'm 99% certain it's not my kind of thing so I think I'll pass. Maybe I'll pick up some more Sonic seeing as how I haven't spent quite as much as I'd expected to this year.

Hang on a sec... Is it just me or is the Sonic Franchise pack not only different to before (pretty sure it used to have the old games in there) but also insanely mispriced?

It contains all of these at 50% off, discounted prices shown:
Sonic Adventure 2: £2.99
Sonic Adventure 2 DLC: £0.99
Sonic Generations: £9.99
Sonic 4 Part 1: £2.99
Sonic 4 Part 2: £4.99
Total: £21.95

The pack is shown at being 75% off, and yet costs £21.99. It also says:

Individual price: £21.95
Package price: £90.84 (WHAT!?)
Limited Time Offer: -£68.85
Cost to you: £21.99

That's some madness right there!

Edit: Oh actually Hard Reset is pretty great, if you're curious it's kind of an old school shooter (Quake-ish), pretty tough, but the graphics are brilliant and the atmosphere is quite nice, even if it's only a corridor shooter. You can upgrade and unlock weapons and I think there are some abilities in there too, it's been a while since I played. They released some free DLC for it a while back too.

Really wish I could get Skyrim for cheap; I rented and completed it on 360. I would like to mod the crap out of it but every time Steam has a sale they jack the price back up to release price so they can discount it and claim its "50% off." Come on man!

I'm surprised that's legal in the States, it's not here, but then again that doesn't stop people like Gamers Gate (who are based in the UK) doing the same. Gamefly had Skyrim for £8 back in September which is the cheapest I've seen it ever, I'm personally waiting for the GOTY though. I'll let you know if I see it go cheap anywhere but if were to check savygamer.co.uk you'd be as wise as I am.

This sale has been pretty underwhelming to say the least.

I did pick up FTL though, which I'm finding to be so difficult that it's not really that much fun. Oh lets just throw you in an area with an enemy four times more powerful than you and lets put you near a sun so you light on fire constantly, oh and while we are at it lets just have a boarding party show up. I don't mind a challenge, but when it gets to be impossible it's not that much fun. I'm sure I see what all the fuss is about this being some great game.

Dishonored was another one I picked up, but so far I'm pretty unimpressed with it. I just thought there would be more to it.

I also bought CameraBag 2 from the software section. It's pretty similar to Photoshop Elements without the stupid price tag.

The thing about FTL is it's a Roguelike, so it's possible for an enemy to dodge when you have a 90% chance of hitting them and it's possible for them to hit you with a 10% chance, and both happen annoyingly regularly. Also the randomness of the situations is a real killer, you may get lucky and never bump into an enemy or you may be unlucky and jump to a system with an enemy who has drones, fire weapons, a teleporter AND you might be in an asteroid belt or near a sun or something.

I remember one time I jumped into a system and the game more or less said 'oops, your shields don't work!' and I was destroyed pretty much instantly because I'd invested a lot of scrap in my shield system. Another time I was living dangerously and didn't use any scrap, didn't find any weapons and didn't find any more crew members and that's the only time I've ever made it as far as the boss!

For what it's worth, I've been playing on easy mode until I can win a game comfortably.

I know, I've played other Rougetype games before and it's never been that irritating. I tried it again on "easy" and managed to get further but after the first system jump I was boarded by 4 enemies, if that's their definition of easy I think they need to reevaluate the word.

Oh and Steam's Dec 30th games just went up. Far Cry 3 is 25% off and if anyone hasn't played any of the Mount & Blade games I'd recommend picking them up, they are great fun.

£4.99 for the Witcher 2 today, lasts until tomorrow, finally dropped in price even more (I thought it might). I haven't actually played it yet but I've heard very good things.

Not worth it at only 25% off imo. I got it for $25 the other day and am failing to see why everyone's saying it's so good.

The interface is bland and looks like something from 2005 (especially the map, could Ubisoft have given it an art style that made it any more useless than it is?), the gameplay is, well... nothing special, not to mention it seems like you get swarmed by pirates that come out of the ground - kill two pirates in a car in the middle of nowhere, two more race up in their vehicle, kill them and two more appear etc. Far Cry 2's infinitely-respawning guard posts were actual gamebreakers for me, and although Far Cry 3 doesn't have those this comes close...

I agree with Sharky.

I completed the game last week, but it wasn't that good that I feel the need to complete it a second time.

The good thing about Far Cry 3 is that Ubisoft are pretty allergic to proper discounts until the sequel is already out, so I'd be surprised if Far Cry 3 goes much lower than £15 until FC4 is out. That said, thanks to a pricing SNAFU I managed to get all three Far Crys for £4.94... Definitely worth it at that price!

But yeah, what I've played so far is a bit repetitive and it's annoying as hell when you stumble across the only jeep patrol for miles around... Then after you kill the two guys with your last magazine, about four more jeeps turn up out of the blue and kill you. That forces you to deal with the weird checkpoint save thing that I don't get, it seems to work most of the time but once or twice I've lost a lot of progress and stuff. Also the UI sucks.

Apart from that I've had some fun trekking across the island to hunt stuff, kill stuff and so on.

About the sales: don't buy Closure, get the Humble Bundle instead. Closure, Snapshot, a load of other stuff I can't remember for as little as you want (has to be at least $1 to get Steam keys for them) and it can all go to charity if you want. I think I've bought more from the indie games section than the daily deals actually. Miasmata looks good but my bank account says no.

I can't remember if I mentioned buying anything after the Sleeping Dogs DLCs I grabbed (and now I can't remember if I even posted that or not), but since then I've bought an embarrassing amount of stuff for someone who said he wasn't going to buy any more!

Nation Red
Who's That Flying
Noitu Love 2 Devolution
Satazius
Lego Star Wars Saga
Miasmata
Serious Sam 3 BFE (plus Jewel of the Nile DLC)
Krater collectors edition
A few Magicka DLCs.

It'll be interesting to see what the full list is this time around... The sale has been going for so long I've forgotten what life was like before it.

Oh noes! And just when I thought I was done by getting Metro 2033 for 2.49€ they drop the price for Sleeping Dogs to 16.99€... :scared:

It might be worth mentioning that Amazon US has Spec Ops: The Line for $7.50, and if you bought anything from them in the run up to Christmas you probably got $5 promotional credit... So I just got it for $2.50. You can also the The Darkness II for the same price. They have a lot of other stuff there too but Spec Ops: The Line for £1.50... That's more than 75% off of the cheapest it got on Steam during this sale.

I've just worked out how much I've spent on games since 20/12/2012... I kind of wish the Mayans had been right! Time to call in all debts and favours. Yet it's still less than three PS3 games.

So it's nearly that time again.

There appears to be a slight hint, though it could also be a genuine glitch. There was a 3.7GB update for Half Life 2 today which is suspiciously large, apparently it's a SteamPipe update but also adds Korean language support... But it has set everyone's game to Korean.

The Steam Support Twitter had this to say about it:

Steam Support
WARNING: The most recent HL2 update has some issues. We're working to fix this, you can pause the update for now. 예측하지 못한 결과에 대비하라...

The Korean text at the end there reads: "Prepare for unexpected results ..."

And there you have it, a possible hint at something happening soon. It might be a sale, it might not, but I thought as it's likely going to start in July anyway I might try and get some discussion going.

So which games are you after this time? What's your budget? How soon will you completely forget you even had a budget? Personally I'm looking to spend £10 tops because I just bought myself another GTX 680, but if stuff on my wishlist comes up cheap enough I might have to bite. If Gunpoint is discounted at all I'll pick that up for sure, Monaco and Trials Evolution Gold are two others I'm keen to get my hands on... And Thunder Wolves, Retrovirus and Trackmania Canyon, but they'd have to be exceptionally good deals. I'm keeping an eye on AeroFly FS and Euro Truck Simulator 2 just in case, but I'd be surprised if they drop under £10.

As always, be very careful about when you buy stuff you want, don't jump at a 50% discount because it could drop to 75% the day after. It's wise to wait it out and if there hasn't been a better discount by the last day then by all means go for it, but you'll kick yourself if it comes up as a daily deal.

Also check savygamer.co.uk or isthereanydeal.com and make sure that awesome discount hasn't been bettered elsewhere, this happened a lot in the Christmas sale; I remember Skyrim being £14.99 on Steam but £8 with a voucher from Gamefly, and Dishonoured was also £14.99 on Steam but £11.50 on GMG, again with a voucher (which they post on their site blog, by the way). Steam haven't actually been having the best deals lately, Amazon US and GMG have been really competitive as of late.

Finally, if you want opinions or recommendations on anything, I'm sure someone here will chime in. I own about half of everything on Steam (that's not an exaggeration either, I'm positively ashamed by the number of games I own) so I'll do what I can to offer an opinion.

Neema you made me so excited... I thought it started today. I have around $80 to spend on a few games but nothing excites me. Trials Evolution Gold and ARMA III were automatic buys for me that I never got to. Maybe I can finally get Borderlands 2 even though it does not excite (I blame myself for that one. I watched too many live streams and the game is almost spoiled). I might not even spend the $80 so I can save even more. With my birthday coming soon I can get really close to getting a GTX 770 (I also have an extra $100 saved from Christmas that I never used that I could possibly use). Even that is not certain I may drop to a GTX 670 so I can get a new motherboard, cpu cooler and/or case.

You might want to hold on a little longer, I got an email from Nvidia earlier about the GTX 760 which is a 670 but probably a bit better and a bit cheaper, just as the 770 is a bit faster and a bit cheaper than the 680.

As for Borderlands 2, I'm betting it'll be £7.49, the season pass will be barely discounted (maybe 25% but I reckon 15% is more likely) because it'll too soon after the latest DLC, everything except Season Pass DLC will be discounted at the same rate as the game itself... I'm guessing.

Actually there is a deal on the game at this very moment on getgamesgo.com, I'm not sure if it'll show in the States though. It's the cheapest it's been to date... A lot of the DLC (not the season pass though) is also cheap. That will all register on Steam too as it's a Steamworks game.

Also I apologise, I'm going to edit the title again.

Edit: oops, can't edit it via my phone!

I saw the 760 on various sites for $250. It seems to be more like a GTX 660 ti then a 670 in the benchmarks I have seen today. I have plenty of time. My birthday will be three weeks away on Friday.

Steam now has F1 2012 for 66% off & I'm a bit tempted to buy it since it was originally 40 dollars. But it'll surely throw me off for sales in the future which will may or may not happen to be at least a game from my wishlist.

Sorry, you're right, the 760Ti is the one you want to hold out for! But whichever one you buy will be awesome, so.

F1 2012 could be cheaper in a week or so... But I've heard F1 2011 and 2013 are better anyway. You might want to check up on that. Or was it F1 2010? I can't remember now. Was there a Codemasters 2010?

There are a few titles that I'll be looking out for but I won't be buying as much as last time. I have most of what I want and lots to play for a long time still.
