Steam sale thread: Summer 2017 Edition

Daily Deals are mostly unattractive for me so far, sadly. Hoping for some good stuff over the next few days.

Tempted to get Alan Wake at £5.74, one of those games that has been right at the back of a to buy list for ages.

So today I bought the Arma II ACR (Army of the Czech Republic) DLC and Half Minute Hero. I've spent some time on Arma II's armoury trying out the new stuff, man I love Arma II. Spent about 10 minutes crawling through long grass to go assassinate someone in the Armoury mode with nothing but a G36C SD Holo, snuck past two patrols and then stood up out of the long grass about 50 metres from the tent, popped the guy, chucked smoke around the place and ran off, not that it mattered as the mission was complete anyway.

Arma II is good if you like tactical shooters, it's not just for DayZ.

Feels like I already have all the games I have a genuine interest in from Steam. This sale I'm all "nah... nah...nah"

I did buy Defcon, Mirror's Edge and dlc stuff for Killing Floor though. The only game left that I can think of being very interested in is Xcom and it seems they won't put it up for 50% this time either so maybe next sale. I can play other games in the meantime.

Just got Skyrim and the Hearthfire DLC. I'll get the Dawnguard one after I've played the game a bit.
I already have Skyrim on the PS3 but the loading times are rubbish and the same for saving. Time to restart my adventure as a sneaky Khajiit instead of a knight/mage Khajiit.

Edit: Game and DLC $33 US.

I'm quite tempted by Spec Ops: The Line but I've seen it cheaper, so I might just wait.

Scribblenauts Unlimited is on Amazon US for $7.49 or so, which is peanuts (and available now) compared to the UK price, even with the 33% discount, which isn't out until February or something. I loved the iOS version so I think I'll get that. Also tempted by Modern Warfare, my brother recently bought it again (we both lost our copies) on PS3 and I quite enjoy it, I just can't use sticks any more. £10 is too much though.

I'm thinking about picking up Portal and Portal 2. I've all but given up on finding a PS3 version of the second, and it would be nice to play the first game again.

I had a sudden and overriding urge to give, so now you have no need to think about picking that Portal bundle up later. :D

Looks like I've bought more Steam games for other people than I have for myself. Then again, I almost never use Steam :/

Got two games out of the sale so far: The Counter Strike Complete Package, as that was cheaper than buying CS: Source and CS: Global Offense individually. Those games are still being played by all my friends, so they're pretty much a must have for LAN parties... Couldn't turn that opportunity down. 15 bucks was a good deal, I guess.

Also got myself a DOTA 2 key for 13 bucks. Probably foolish, but dang, who cares. T'is the gifting season, after all. And I'm growing tired of Leaague of Legends' champion unlocking system, the runes and the FOTM champs. So, yeah, gotta take a close look at DOTA2. And maybe get a headstart on those who are going to get it once it's actually released.

Bought Skyrim for a friend, Batman AC & Trauma for a friend, Assasins Creed Brotherhood for a friend, GTA San Andreas and Psychonauts for myself.

EDIT: So far. Cheapest way to make Christmas gifts ever.

I caved spectacularly, not only did I buy myself a copy of Modern Warfare I also bought one for a friend. I happened to notice he wanted it when I was checking out and figured it would be good to play together as he bounced off of Battlefield 3 due to not being great at it.

Then I added a load of Sonic games to my wishlist. Enjoy tomorrow/today everyone, whatever it means to you (if anything). I think that avoided offending anyone...

Bugger. I was hoping you'd get my message first, but no matter. At least I could get it back since you didn't redeem the code, so then both of us have copies of both games.

It's the thought that counts though mate. Don't worry about it.

Christmas day must surely have awesome sales, right? Some big games discounted 66-75%? Nope! Mostly rubbish, although the über-violent Hotline Miami is pretty damn awesome. In the indie sale part I recommend 1000 Amps and Nightsky, and of course Killing Floor and/or the DLC (except the golden guns pack because it's horse armour in gun form).

Still nothing interesting for me...maybe on boxing day? Suspect there might be an awesome flash sale on New Years Eve. :P

Does anyone have Deadlight? Is it any good?

It's 50% off now, and at 5.99€ it looks interesting. ;)

I've heard it looks a lot better than it plays, but it's not awful... Not exactly a glowing recommendation.

I bought Sonic Adventure 2 for £2.99, always wanted to play this on my Dreamcast, it's expensive as hell to get a Dreamcast copy these days (basically the same price as it was 10+ years ago) so £2.99 seemed like a bargain!

Also got Deus Ex Human Revolution, still waiting to see if Witcher 2 drops even lower in price. I hate the steam sales, because I dont want to spend money but sometimes they just seem too good to pass on, half the time I end up not even playing the games anyway, too many games and too little time!

I just bought Saints Row 3 for €15, so that should keep me occupied for a while.

Have you played it yet? I'm interested in it because I quite enjoyed Sonic Adventure, but I've heard it's a pretty poor port. If SA2 is better then that would be awesome. I wonder how they emulate the Chao VMU mini game, if at all?

My friend said that the Mass Effect Trilogy was marked down 75%. Someone interested in that might wanna check it out! Great games!

Picked up Dead Rising 2, it scored higher than the sort-of sequel and is cheaper so I went for it. Always wanted to see what it's about, duct taping chainsaws to things seems like something I'd enjoy. AND IN THE GAME! Yes.

And no DLC, which is about another $15 or so. Still one of the greatest RPG franchises of the last few years though :)

Well, you do have a Mass Effect character in your avatar. ;)

I may be a little bit biased. *gg*

Can you even get the DLC for the Steam version? Was there any for the first game?
Yes and yes - you can buy the DLC from the BioWare site and the installers pick up a Steam installation of ME2 no trouble. ME1 had two bits of DLC but they were insignificant.

@ Sharky: Thanks, that's me educated, I had no idea. Maybe if I get into it properly the next time I try and play it I'll consider the DLC but so far I keep bouncing off it.

Can't help but notice that a lot of games' discounts don't improve when they're featured this time around. Pid, for example, was 25% off before and now that it's in the indie sale section it's still the same. Miner Wars was 50% off even before it was in the voting section thing. Weird... But yeah, I think I'm all purchased out. Maybe I'll get Pid on the last day, maybe I'll pick up one or two unexpected games if they're cheap enough but on the whole I'm done for now.

I'll be back tomorrow I tell you I've bought everything, I'm sure.
