Steam sale thread: Summer 2017 Edition

Codemasters made F1 2010, it was rubbish.

Hope this helps. :dopey:

Well it was either that it was better or it was rubbish, it's 50:50.

Is 2013 even out yet? I don't think it is. Did I mention I think I 'suffer' from dyscalculia?

So that Half Life 2 thing was probably a genuine mistake, but like I said, either way the sale has to be starting soon.

It has to.

Bought the PMC and BAF DLC's for Arma II at 50%, before the Steam summersale. :D

Hoping there are some interesting games this sale, wasn't many for me last sale.

I don't have anything planned for the summer sale, maybe I'll get Skyrim and Grid 2 if the price is low enough.

They discount every game they have during Summer Sale. So what you are saying is that the games you were looking for weren't to be found on Steam, but maybe this year?

Last sale, winter holiday 2012. 💡

Not every game was on sale, at least not enough % off. ;)

Yeah, it's not every game, some things are just very sale-resistant and others were too new to be discounted.

I read somewhere that for the past three years, the Summer Sale has started either in or before the first week of July. I think last year it was the first week of July, the two before that were the last week of July. I'm betting a trading card (gasp) it's starting this Thursday...

I seem to recall the Summer sale always starting on the same day of the week? Though the date varies. Can't come fast enough.

Yeah, it has been on a Thursday for the past three years, 2010 and 2011 was the last Thursday of June and last year was the first Thursday of July, hence my bet.

Edit: I lied, it was the second week of July last year; the 12th.

Since most of you reading/participating in this thread are already Steam users, how interested are you all in the trading cards feature? Or, to put it another, more direct way:

Not into the whole card trading game. Don't think I'll ever do anything with it.

Not Steam, but Green Man Gaming is have their summer sale right now too. You mostly just buy a key you activate in Steam, so it works out pretty well. They are doing new deals every 6 hours.

Yep, I was just about to post that! Kind of tempted by Thunder Wolves. Already.

Well, if you (or anyone) ever get any cards you don't want and feel like helping a GTP brother out, I'd take them off you... But you should know you can get Steam credit by selling the cards instead. Of course I could always trade something for what you've got so you could both help me out and sell a card, though.

I have a few L4D2 cards. Yours if you want them.
Will probably also get some of the Counter Strike Global Offensive ones at some point.

How do you actually get the cards? I haven't figure that out just yet.

You don't even have to play the games, just make Steam think you're running them and that's that. You have a limited number of card drops per game which is equal to half the set of that game (and it'll round up if there's an odd number of cards), so to complete a set you have to trade or buy the other cards. You can also sell cards for Steam credit with which to buy games or items on the Steam marketplace, same as you can with TF2 and DOTA 2 items. When you complete a set you can craft a badge which gives you XP towards your Steam level (and that in itself gives you bonuses for levelling up), a coupon, an emoticon and a background (some of which are worthless, some aren't), and when you've had your allocated number of card drops you then become eligible to get a booster pack of three cards at some point, but these are really rare (some games only have one or two for sale) and therefore way too expensive for what they are.

I'd love to take those cards off of you, Jawehawk, but to be completely honest I'm just going to sell anything that isn't Borderlands 2, CS:GO or The Binding of Isaac to fund buying cards for those games! I was trading for a while but I couldn't be bothered to keep track of it all and constantly talking to people who were acting as if they'd just had lobotomies was getting a bit old. If you want something in return though I have some coupons:

-50% System Shock 2
-66% Gettysburg: Armored Warfare
-33% Defender's Quest
-50% Orcs Must Die! 2
-50% A Game of Dwarves... But then there are probably better deals to be had on those in the Summer Sale anyway.

Meanwhile, the absence of a week-long deal this week suggests it could well be sale week. Also in evidence: Thursday is the 4th of July, Tripwire have just announced that their event will be live this week - and that's usually timed to coincide with the Summer Sale - and... Actually that's all I've got. I guess we'll find out soon. GMG's summer sale is kind of damp, right now the only noteworthy thing on sale there is a Total War complete pack or something.

Does anyone recall any Simbin titles going on sale in the past? They have a bundle of their racing titles too.

Yeah, they're always heavily discounted in the sales and have been ever since my first Steam sale. RR:RE aside, their software is by far the best value when it comes to racing sims.

let me add you on Steam, and I'll gift you any cards I get. You don't have to give me anything in return mate.

Am I to understand that you need CS.GO and Binding of Isaac cards? Or is it the other way around? :)
If you do, I'll play some of that tomorrow, and gift you those cards as well.

Great! Hopefully it comes by very soon.

Well, it's not part of the summer sale of this year but that game Dust that's up for grabs now is absolutely amazing if you've ever loved a platform game or liked Trine 1 or 2 a lot.
Honest, I never write these kinds of things often to developers but since this guy did all the artwork/animation and programming himself. I just felt obliged to leave him the following words on the Steam forum.
So please consider this as my impression of the game and everyone's milage may vary of course. :)

I don't do this often, but Dean... AWESOME WORK!
I used to love Jazz Jackrabbit (which you've been involved in too from what I read) and kind of have missed those good old platform games which I used to love as a kid.
Now after Trine 1 and 2 you come with this awesome game which is totally my style. I mean, just every aspect reminds me so much of my youth that I wonder how you've done it. I can't seem to pin point what it is, but you did it and that's for sure.
One hell of an awesome game. Smooth playing, awesome graphics, wicked gameplay, good sense of humor, great story and a hell of a soundtrack to add to the great atmosphere and fast action of this game.

If I have to give this a figure it's a definite 10/10. And for the Steam sale price of today it's the best bargain ever to hit Steam games list.

Thank you very much for your dedication and work to make this a perfect game.

Cheers,
LogiForce

Posted on another forum I frequent:

SteamDB posted a blog update today - there's been a massive DB update today which could be a sign of a sale - however their logic is it's next Thursday (11th) because of

a - no overlapping sales or major releases (Dark overlaps this Friday)
b - today is July 4th, not a good day to do anything in the USA
c - existing sales all end on-or-before the 11th...

So that's their take on it - sounds sensible...

Seems pretty definitive to me.
