Stereotypes about Germans/Germany

I've been to Germany a couple of times (its my neighbor country after all) and I can confirm a few stereotypes:

* German food is terrible and unhealthy (but so is American food, Asian food... etc. :P)
I have to disagree with you strongly on this! I went to Germany last year (visiting Berlin, Zempin and Hamburg in the process) and I found the food to be delicious. My definite favourite is a type of fish common to the Zempin and nearby areas, called Zander. Couldn't get enough of it!

Dunno what an Airpot is, but they have beer!

I think of germans generally being quite technically thinking people, not much of a sense of humour however very maticulous and precise (they like everything in order). They also however are generally much more accepting of other countries then us british are. Most german teens I have seen can speak German, french and english fluently.

Always a bonus to be able to speak your own language!

If your gonna be picky so can I. I can "speak" my language perfectly fine however spelling and grammar is another matter. That's why I want to be an engineer rather than a writer or journalist.

I think the comment was intended to be funny, not picky. Lighten up.

Sense of humour failure. :sly:

Well spotted. 👍

Sorry, A levels are making me a little snappy at the moment, so much coursework and only a week after we had exams, grrrrrrr.

Anyway to keep this on topic, I would guess Germans would be quite good at exams with their organisational skills and all. ;)

An old work colleague of mine was from Germany, he was a nice chap and had a good sense of humor. All of the white goods he owned were all 'Bosch', as he refused to buy any other brand.
Are all Germans so loyal towards the 'Bosch' brand, or is it just a stereotype?

Most people I know stick to one brand of work tools. I don't know why that is (I, personally, don't care). But some will get everything they can from Bosch, some swear by Black & Decker, some would buy everything from Makita and so on.

Chainsaws mainly are bought from Stiehl, electric toy trains from Märklin, you need a laundry machine - Miele is the brand, your car often is a Smart/Mini/Volkswagen/Audi/BMW/Mercedes Benz, you feel comfortable with your Nivea body lotion, Maggi gives taste to your food, your headache goes away with Aspirin, gum bears - of course from Haribo and Aldi is #1 grocery chain (discounter).

There may be other brands... :sly:

I'm like that and I'm not German. I would kill to have all my tools from Bosch. I was working on a little project of mine last summer and was really frustrated all the spanners/wrenches were from different manufacturers and weren't properly labelled or stored.

Funnily enough, all his power tools were 'Bosch' too, the only electrical things he had which weren't 'Bosch' were his TV (Sony) and stereo.

I was told Germans tend to perfection (in different fields of life and business). Walking through pedestrian areas I really have to doubt about that stereotype...

Stereotype: Germany has the best soccer league in Europe.

Proof: Coming up next: ChampionLeague finals at Wembley
Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern München

Sorry, England, the Germans are coming.

About the tools thing. It's not just a German thing. For example my friend would always buy Craftsman tools if he needed tools.

It has cost them 70+ years, but the Germans are finally able to start Operation Sea Lion.
