No, not yet - I reckon it might be some way off, but I think the signs are good that the doc will be completed - given the added significance of the subject matter... although apparently Steve Irwin had already decided what he thought the deadliest creature in the oceans is, and it wasn't stingrays....

Irwin fans 'in revenge attacks'

Stingrays have been found dead on two Queensland beaches
Dead stingrays with their tails cut off have been found in Australia, sparking concern that fans of naturalist Steve Irwin may be avenging his death.

Mr Irwin, a TV personality known as the "Crocodile Hunter", was killed while diving in Queensland when a stingray's barb stabbed him in the chest.

Since then, 10 stingrays have been found mutilated on Queensland beaches.

Government officials said they were investigating the deaths and there could be prosecutions.

Two stingrays were found at a beach north of Brisbane with their tails cut off, while eight were found on another beach on Monday, The Australian reported.

Wayne Sumpton of the state fisheries department said it was not clear if the incidents were connected to Mr Irwin's death.

He said fishermen who inadvertently caught stingrays sometimes cut off their tails to avoid being stung, but such a practice was uncommon.

'Protect wildlife'

Mr Irwin was well-known for his work with Australian wildlife

Michael Hornby, a friend of the late naturalist and executive director of Mr Irwin's Wildlife Warrior fund, condemned any revenge killings.

"We just want to make it very clear that we will not accept and not stand for anyone who's taken a form of retribution. That's the last thing Steve would want," he said.

"I hope everyone understands we have to protect wildlife now more than ever. This is what Steve was all about."

Stingrays are normally placid, but when they feel under threat, a sharp, poisonous spine in their tail flicks up.

A public memorial service for Mr Irwin will be held next week.

Unbelievable... Steve Irwin would turn in his grave if he could see this :indiff:. The utter bloody stupidity of some people beggars belief... these idiots should hang their heads in shame... Capitalising on Steve Irwin's death is bad enough, but to do it in such a way is an affront to his memory... 👎

Article from today's Guardian...

What next, assassinate Gerry Anderson? :dunce:

I agree, the government doesn't need to be saying there may be prosecution theyshould be saying thre WILL be.

How stupid are these people. They try to avenge a man -who strived his whole life to protect wildlife- by killing wildlife. He will not rest in peace if he knows that this is going on.

It's the same as the idiots rioting when Dr Martin Luther King Jr was killed. He stood for non-violence. So what do they do? Burn, loot and destroy the very communities Dr. King wanted to help and unify. Very logical... 👎

This is awesome. Great vid, but at the start, I love the way he can show the crowd what happens if a creature enters the crocs water!

The guy was bonkers!

Ok this is all sad and stuff, but come on who hasnt sat at home watching steve do something crazy and think to yourself this guy is gonna die one day...:nervous:

I think we all have at some point - but the fact remains that his death was a bizarre accident and a stroke of extremely bad luck. Yes, he was doing something that was inherently risky - filming potentially dangerous sea creatures, but the manner in which he died was not the result of irresponsible behaviour. It's akin to a racing driver being killed by a fire during a pitstop - but who would say in that scenario that 'he was gonna die one day'?

The fact that Steve Irwin wasn't killed by any of his previous activites is testament to the fact that he actually knew what he was doing - he didn't take uncalculated risks...

Let’s face it a stingray is not the friendliest animal out there so the chance of him getting hurt was still there. I know it’s not often but people have been killed by this creature in the past so the danger of him getting hurt was still there.

I just heard on the radio that people were queuing for over 24 hours to get tickets to the memorial service at Australia zoo next week, and all the tickets were given out in just 15 minutes.

Just shows what a popular guy he was.

Oh dont get me wrong I loved his shows, and he is very popular.

I think he wanted the documentary to be shown with the footage, but the video is just the killing.

No, he didn't actually say that... but he did say that he hoped that it would be caught on camera. You'd think that the obvious distress that it may cause to his friends and family would mean that he'd rather it was not broadcast, but quite why he hoped that his death would be captured on film in that case is anyone's guess...

I got it off this article

His partner and manager has pleaded that the tape be destroyed, while an old quote from Irwin surfaced that claimed he wished for his death to be broadcast.

I believe his exact words were "If I'm going to die, at least I want it filmed." - he said nothing about broadcasting it - but the implication is there.

It'll be like those beheading videos a while back. I think it will get on the internet, but the thing is, it's not going to be 6PM news. You're not going to be forced to watch it.

If he wanted it filmed, I'm sure he would have wanted people to see it. Showing him dieing doing what he loved.

You could have resized it.

But on the video, I am glad to see some people have "owned" those who wish to see it.

For ex., 1 video starts off with 2 Stingrays, and you think Steve is in the background. However, it ends up that it's actually scientists trying to extract sperm from a male, and ends in saying "You sickos."

Quite creative and a way of saying, let the video be locked away. It need not be seen.

I read on the magazine "Global" while shopping with my mom today that he didn't actually have to die, and that he died because he pulled the barb out from his chest/heart and the seawater flooded in.

Anyone think this is true?

Edit im thinking of national enquirer..haha.

I dont think so, even if he was not in water, a stab wound like that to the heart...?

I think he was done for either way..
