what were the final specs of the NSX? Like starting HP and after tuning HP, Torque too and where they hit, plus redline before and after. How much downforce compared to the Ferrari, before and after....Just small suggestions I think that would make this a little more interesting.

Honestly, great concept though, i think with a little polish, this could be very entertaining.

Oh and it would be okay in my opinion to upgrade tires, but only by 1 level. Like Comfort Soft to sports hard, or sports hard to sports medium, etc etc

This is a very common real life tuning application. I don't know anyone who has built a car without upgrading tires.

I think it was a typo. He said to buy the ferrari and save 80k....

Anywho, great review! I liked it and can't wait for the next one.

How about a mclaren f1 vs mp4?

This, I honestly don't know how that typo was made :P sorry for the confusion everyone...

I will add the Tuned Specs of the NSX along with Route X acceleration figures later today, also, that is a cool idea about the redline before and after, I will be sure to implement that on the next episode 👍

How did everyone like the Write up for the first time?

Yeah it was great, although I thought it was pretty obvious the NSX would triumph!

Something like Audi TT v Audi R8, Subaru WRX STi v Nissan GT-R or Z06 v ZR1 (Thought that battle was happening?) would be interesting!

Can't wait for next one!👍

Reminds me of EVO magazine, which is a good thing. Great read, keep it up! Let me know if you guys ever need any extra man power :P

Cool little write up. 👍

More detailed information would be nice though. Along with the price difference of the two cars you should also list things like how much they both cost, horsepower and torque figures before and after tuning and what parts were installed.

Also do some more proof reading next time. I found some spelling errors, grammatical errors and strange sentences like this:
The little Honda that could, kept that lead until about 165MPH, and that's when the Ferrari's superior Top End, most likely due to the 120 Horsepower and better Aero Dynamics, where the Italia started to make it's come back, and then it made the pass.

Looking forward to the next write up. It has potential. :)

Thanks 👍

I know there were a fair number of actual errors, I was kind of rushing because I wanted to finish it before I had to go last night :P

I have an editor set up for the next episode so we don't have any petty mistakes again

I actually tuned a Camaro to be faster than a Ferrari 458, it was a good match up :D But how about a Golf R/ IV GTI vs an Audi R8 V8?

New Episode of Stock -vs- Tune coming out later tonight, Just got all the pictures taken, about to start the write up 👍

We have a new Editor on the team so it will be a cleaner read then the 1st episode, also, we may not have a nurburgring lap this week due to bad timing of a PSN outage and the time zone difference of our Ring Stig..

Episode 2 is: Corvette C5 Z06 vs Corvette C6 Z06 .. about 40,000cr to tune. Will it be wiser to tune again this week?

Ok so, I just sent out the full write up to the editor, and hopefully it will be out for everyone very soon, It is a much better all round write up then the 1st episode by far in my opinion, and it is will be much more immersing to read.

Welcome to another episode of
Stock -vs- Tuned!

This week we will be pitting the 2004 Corvette C5 Z06 against the 2006 C6 Z06. Now by doing this we save 40,300cr. A much tighter budget then last weeks episode, therefore a potentially much tighter race in store for us.

2du03dh.jpg

Lets have a quick look at these two cars before we start shall we?
We will start off by giving a quick overview of the C5. It's power plant is a 5.7 Liter normally aspirated V8, producing 405HP and 400ft-lb of torque. It weighs in at 1414KG.

1g5114.jpg

The C6 on the other hand is a little more brutal out of the factory.
It has a slightly bigger motor, in the same way that the Dodge RAM is a little bit bigger then the Ford Focus: 7.0 Liters of Raw V8 power. It makes 505HP and 470ft-lb of torque. So in easy to understand terms, enough to turn the tires into "elevensies" as Jeremy Clarkson would call them, whenever you like. The car weighs in at 1421KG, almost the same as the C5.

wmnxuw.jpg

It's time for testing. First things first, we take the two cars out for some acceleration tests and see how they stack up. From a dig the cars aren't to far apart but once they see the 62MPH (100KPH) mark, it becomes a very different story. The 100 Horse power difference between the two shows early on and the C6 Z06 is gone. Very gone.

msoozs.jpg

C5 0-60: 4.1 1/4 mile: 12.1 Top speed: 198 Miles per hour
C6 0-60: 3.7 1/4 mile: 11.7 Top speed: 211 Miles per hour.

These cars have 6 Speeds but both shouldn't be classified as more then 5 speeds with Overdrive. The C5 gains a little speed in 6th but at such a rate it's useless, and the C6 just doesn't accelerate. Moving on to some laps now.

29x93qw.jpg

We brought them both to the Top Gear Test Track, to see what these cars were like through the turns. We were genuinely suprised at how well these cars were going into, and through turns. Coming out of turns how ever, not so much.

nx2p8h.jpg

It took quite a while to get the Corvettes tame out of the turns, but once we did it payed off with blistering times. The C5 was able to run a 1:18.421 , which if I'm not mistaken is faster then that of the NSX we ran here last week. Incredible really. The C6 Z06 was even faster, by a lot. 1:15.665 was the magic number for this beast. It may have taken a few sets of tires, ultimately enough sets of tires to effectively bring GoodYear out of near bankruptcy. With these Vettes, it really is a matter of getting the widest exit possible to feed it the most gas without cooking the rubber. With that said it was time to tune, and we were highly doubting that we could scrub almost 3 seconds away with only 40 Grand to spend.

main.jpg

With only 40,000cr we had to think "What would improve the car the most?". Since it turned relatively well to begin with, we decided to go with more power upgrades than handling. We gave it a Stage 1 Engine Upgrade, an ECU tune, Sport Intake, Racing Air Filter, Semi-Racing Exhaust, Sport Catalytic Converter, Twin Plate Clutch, Height Adjustable Suspension to maintain the balance of the car with the extra HP, a Painted Carbon Hood, and a Stage 2 Weight Reduction. We had a little money left over, and decided to go with an aero kit to keep the rear planted at high speed.

25z5ctt.jpg

With that said it was time to get the new whip on the road. The first thing we did was hit the highway with a stop watch. The 0-60mph times hadn't really changed. The car had a lot of trouble hooking up, mostly due to its close gearing, and oh yeah, forgot to mention...the 513 HP we have now..
0-60: 4.0 1/4 mile: 11.5 Top Speed: 211.6 MPH almost identical to the C6. Now with that out of the way, lets see if the money we put into the C5 was worth it on the track.

2ng92c5.jpg

First thing we noticed about the newly tuned Vette, is the amazing exhaust note the Semi-Racing Exhaust gives off.. It's just so nice  . From the first laps we made we honestly thought the C6 was going to be faster, the C5 was just too violent out of the turns, we then remembered the reason why we gave it the Height adjustable suspension.

screenshot262.jpg

We gave it a few adjustments, made the car a bit more neutral, and it seemed to work alright. We were still running a whole second behind the C6's lap time. Until we made some racing line adjustments, and voila! We beat the time! The time: 1:15.552. We couldn't go any faster, not at all. Big thanks to Jesse208 for the lap ;) ..

2lf0m.jpg

So there you have it, the C5 Z06 is a smarter choice (although by almost nothing at all). It may have the slower 0-60, and may look a little retro, but all in all the C5 will get you around a track quicker, and will take you to a higher top speed. Now let me remind you, the C5 with the extra HP will take some skill for it to match that of the C6, so choose wisely.

And that concludes another episode of SvT. We hope you enjoyed it and we will continue to make weekly content as long as we please the readers. See ya next week and please give some thoughts and some Future Ideas

Great review! 👍

Never mess with a GM LS6 modified, always kicks some butt! :sly:👍

And it's even better to win a few races for a begginner who needs a powerful car with some mods. So it's a great choice.

Maybe run against a monsterous LS9 C6 ZR1 Corvette? ;)

If not, I would love to see a R32 Skyline GTR go against a R35 GTR. See who's better in the money and powerhouse department on a budget.

Great job. I would suggest limiting laps to 5 each and use the average. Although post the fastest lap.
Can't wait until the next one.

Thanks for the great replies everyone, I really wanted this to be better then the half hearted attempt at Episode 1.. We now have TurboLefty78 editing and as you can see he is doing a great job.

Yes indeed Corvettes of really any sort are great cars to get "cheap" performance out of, very good to start with. We were initially thinking of just doing the C5 against the ZR1, but we dould have had some where around 150k to tune.. which is practically Fully tuning, and the ZR1 would have been smoked. (although the 700+ hp would have overwhelmed the sock tires) and about the R32 v R35 ... That is in the cards for future episodes ;)

Ferarri 599 to a Mazda Rx-7?

A lot of the people are going for the old vs new so I figured this might be more interesting.

I must admit that is a pretty compelling match up.. Maybe we will do that soon ;)

This a great thread, one of my favorite to read on GTP.

Keep up the great work. 👍

Thanks a ton 👍

I REALLY want to see the two mclarens dish it out.

As do I... the only thing is. The MP4, is pretty much faster around a track already, so with the money you would save it would be an obvious outcome. :(

Just came across this thread today and I agree. I can't wait for the next episode. Bonus points for doing a Corvette vs. Corvette comparison already haha.:)👍

Corvette's are always fun to mess around with no questions there..
