Stop Quitting the race if you're the host

I've given up playing online till we get the update for private races. I really hope that PD implement a system where you get penalised in some way for quitting a race, as a couple of people from here have suggested.

I've found High Speed Ring Intermediate 500PP to be fairly good to race on. There are some wall riders of course but most runners seem to race cleanly. Why don't you try it?

I know a financial penalty has been mentioned but how do people feel about preventing those who quit from being able to play online for a short period of time (5-10 minutes?) a bit like Resistance:Fall of Man.

Resistance has dedicated servers, people can quit all they want and the match still goes on.

And it was 5 minutes.

I was about ready to give up too but then I had a few races with just 3 or 4 people and it was great. Your heart beats fast when you see the guy ahead of you stumble and you overtake. :D

And I think sometimes we have to blame ourselves. I realize that I've been taking some corners slow. If you're fast then those jerks don't get as many chances to squeeze their elise into your inside.

Once I saw someone in an Elise trying to pull that crap on me. I just hit the brakes and pushed him off the road.

I want to start a thread about defensive driving!

You pushed him or he went flying out by himself? There's a difference, you know?

You're exactly the reason people quit races. They are faster, they try to pass and you take them out.

I think you're the "jerk"

someone tried to brake test me while i was slipstreaming him up HSR-R doing about 180mph, it didn't work lol i just turned hard right and watch him go past

*sigh* are you serious? You have to overtake people SAFELY. If there is no space between the car ahead of you and the grass then DO NOT try to make space by squeezing your nose in.

Please tell me how you overtake someone on the inside when they're in front of you and they're going to get to the apex before you. Please explain to me how you will do that without pushing them off the road.

If you can't overtake someone cleanly then don't do it.

Just because you're faster doesn't mean that everyone should pull over to the side of the road to let you go. Of course people shouldn't block you but certainly I should have to hit the brake to let someone pass me on the inside.

It's this "I'm faster in my Elise on the chicane get the hell out of my way" mentality.

So he could have taken you out, but you went ahead and took him out before he got the chance?

Could it be possible that he braked too late and his only option to not hit you was take your inside?

How are you any better than the other in this case?

Wow, thanks. I used to think that those guys ramming me off the road in their 111R were just a bunch of wreckless jerks ruining it for the rest of us but now you have enlightened me, they're just honest drivers who happen to sometimes brake late.

Whenever someone punts me now I'll just think, "Oh, well maybe he braked late."

I never said that was the case, I said it was possible.

In any case, it's no reason for you to bump them back.

I haven't played gt5p yet, but in Forza 2 there were times when I'd be coming up really fast to someone and they'd cut me off, or I'd accidentally bump someone, and to the other person, the only thing they notice is that I bumped into them and they need to smash me at the next corner.

I think you're a lot worse if you go and hit the other person back, or worse yet, hit them because you think they might hit you.

I don't hit hitters back, but yesterday again three laps in a row. OK I was the one to blame, I shouldn't have gone to the London track to race, here's what happened: Starting 3rd braking early for the first corner and going through that one smoothly overtaking the number 2 driver and accelarating much faster than the number 1, I was going into turn 2 running first, you can guess what happened: I got pushed into the barrier, now lucky for me I managed to take control of my F430 fast and overtook the idiot at the second to last corner. Lap 2 was a copy of lap 1, after that I managed to stay clean of this idiot for 1.5 lap, but at the end of lap 4 this same gay, ooops, sorry, guy (honest: this was a typo) crashed into me, now there was no way recovering from that one, I was standing still, nose into a corner of two barriers WITH TIME PENALTY, now after turning back on track I was running last, there were only 4 cars left, I guess he did some of his friendly overtaking to others too, since they quit realy early in the race, since I was hosting the race I decided to wait right there at the last corner before the finnish, he passed me on his final lap still running first, so I quit the race.

Well what do you now, only 3 minutes later I got a message asking me why I quit the race holding him back of 20,000 credits, so I explained why I didn't want people showing behaviour like that win races, he replied, with a lot of name calling again, so I explained again, same message, now I did not get any replies after that, so I went back into the game, he showed up in the same race 3 more times, but he quit the race on all three occasions: mission acomplished, one idiot who doesn't want to race me anymore.

I totaly agree that one shouldn't just quit a race because of one unsporty player, but in this case it's a win win situation, it resulted in one such player not bothering me anymore, and the races after that, allmost all starting racers made it to the finnishline having lot's more fun and nice races.

I had a nightmare with quitter's last night, must of had 12 or so races with only 4 lasting the full distance , quitting on the final lap aswell very annoying.

Yeah I had a load of quitters on Saturday too - possibly a correllation between an Elise as host, them going off and then getting disconnected from the server.

Last weekend host-quitting wasn't much of a bother to me, because I was host in most of my races anyway (and I didn't quit a single race prematurely). :)

8 Frackin' races & 8 times the Frackin' host quit!!
Talk about a waste of time!! :ouch: :grumpy:

Won't matter in a couple of weeks anyway, update or not. I cant see this being played much once GTAIV is released.

Um yeah, and don't forget that Wii Fitness is out soon too, I'm sure that will also hog a big chunk out of GT5's target audience

Shoulnt there be a easy fix to this problem? they should either make statistics who quits and never let em be host. Or better yet if u quit a online race, host or not, you are not able to sign up for another in 15 min or so.

there has to be lots of different ways to fix this.

The easiest fix: Custom races. You know who the host is and they can easily set their own rules for why they will quit a race and if anyone violates those then it is their fault, and not the host's.

Plus, custom races will remove a lot of the issues with griefers wrecking others, which seems to be the primary reason hosts are quitting.

And since we know those are coming I think it will just be a matter of time.

My solutions:

1. Quitters forfeit the car they're driving (lose it from their garage)

2. Pay a deposit which you get back after race completion.

3. Anyone that quits a race goes into spectator mode for the remainder of the race with no option to quit other than quitting the game back to PS3 OS or turning the machine off all together.

Personally I like the sound of 3 although 1 would be a good deterrent.

good ideas... I've never quited even not as host (not sure I've veen been a host yet). The one time I had to leave I just parked it in the back of a sandtrap and left my PS3 running.

In all honesty though I cant wait for the GT5 novelty value to wear off with a lot of people... should make for some better more consistent racing then

Every race I´ve done online, had me as a host. I will never quit, even if people drive like the head of male genital organs...

I would welcome an option for disqualification of 3rd time offenders. Or maybe if they lost 10% engine power, gained 10% weight or lost 10% grip for each violation (maybe we will see some HEAVY Elises). A lower treshold for contact related penalties. The shortcut system also need some rework. Limping around in the sand (at the break-neck speed of 25 Mph), trying to get back in the race, could hardly be called a "shortcut"...

For those who push/shunt others: go get a copy of Burnout or Motorstorm.
And remember; The AI (offline) will forget, humans (online) won´t...

And for those I may have offended; Sorry, I will try not to do it again.

I was in the race and was first..The host quitted OMG.Money and time lost again....GT need dedicated servers like in Resistance fall of man..This is an exclusive game from Sony why using P2P type server?? It must be stabil server in GT5 full version..Yesterday i was challenging with host..He was out of the track and race ended coz he was host .That's bull****.PD find a solution about that subject! too annoying for me and GT fans...

Well I believe I just did now didn't I?
Quiting when you are the host effects everyone in the race.

If someone who is hosting decides to quit the game because he can't win he just bashed every other player now didn't he?

i dont know if your still going on calling every mod in here a hypocrite or not and im not gonna read all these pages to find out, but heres the thing

situation im host starting lets say 2nd last on suzuka, guy behind me clearly and intentially punts my s2k out on 1st corner, now you say by leaving the game that imn runing the game for everybody racers and cheaters alike, now if this guys intentions are only to hit people why is he just gonna stop at me? if its lap one he hits me hes going after others, if its late in lap 2 or 3 thats 1 thing but lap one forget it im going as are most of the people on these forums and on top of that i can spare everyone else the aggravation of getting hit by this guy

How appropriate a nick, get back on the track and follow him, if he does it to everyone then you have a chance of second place unless of course he manages to drive himself off the track.
