^ 2nd that.

I was at the Nordschleife 2 weeks ago. There was a touring car race, with the top cars being coming from BMW (Z4) and Porsche (911/Cayman).

What do you guys think about a 2-lap race at the Ring with a tuned BMW Z4 or a Ruf RGT (maybe Ruf 3400S as a third choice) with tyre wear, around 400 hp and S1/S2/S3 tyres (Div.1 = S1, Div.3 = S3) in GT Mode?

Don't you see a slight problem with the highlighted stuff? It'll force Div3 to pit, I think - and even if not, they'd have to run the end on tyres turning red...

Can't S3 tyres last 2 laps? I don't know since I never run them... If if doesn't work, we can limit it to 1 lap, or change it to N3/S1/S2 :sly:

I'll do some testwork tomorrow.

Now that seems more fun. S1s/N3s... 👍

I'm not sure, but have N2s and N1s ever been used in the WRS? Could make the small keicars interesting.

BTW, how's the Panda?

I just posted in the hybrids topic ;) I'll try to try it out soon.

I'm not really fond of the Kei cars. Most of them aren't fun outside Motorland...

A classic Alfa, Lotus, Triumph or BMW would be more entertaining on N tyres. We haven't driven Cote d'Azur and Citta di Aria for a while 👍

Perfect Recipe... Perhaps we could do another Licence-test week? The S2, where the Alfa Romeo Giulietta drives around Citta di Aria sounds like a perfect invitation. And a chance for some to shoot for Dan's record

I love that car. I think I first saw it in the movie "The Graduate" - kickass engine-sounds.

Also, that test doesn't have aids on ;)

It's pretty similar to the week that we used the MX-5 around Citta Di Aria though. However, I have no idea what week that was....

18, bloody hell, almost 2 years ago...

...seems like it was yesterday to be honest

Be careful what you ask for! Those "classic" cars act like they have 2" wide tires, and N tires are REAL slippery in them. But at least they're soooooo much better balanced than any of the new cars out here. I don't know what it'll be like with bumped up power and such. They're definitely a blast, just have to make sure the car(s) don't top out in high gear.

I definitely want to drive some of the old cars though... The Japanese even have good ones too. ;)

Well, I fear weeks 18 and that 53/52 (Lupo Cupper) weeks already did the two most enjoyable ways around that track... Lets hope we don't get a sticky racecar in there - that'll be concentration-hell.

And what, do you think, makes these combos so fun? The slipperty tyres, the anchient suspension, the noise (In the Alfa Spider's case), the looks... But especially the lack of grip.

I'm saying they don't need tires that are slipperty, they're slipperty even with tires that aren't supposed to be slipperty!!! :P

You're right, the BMW Z4 doesn't last 2 laps with this power. Let's limit it to 1 lap then, will be difficult enough already :)

Lets see who can hold their breath the longest then. :D

I'm no good. Can't even dive 20 metres straight...

BTW, if we need something fun, how about a race in the TVR Tuscan? We'll need something twisty, with lots of accelleration out of corners to enjoy that marvelous piece of engineering stuffed in the front. I mean, a 4-litre straight-six with the sound of god's own vehicle. But then again, I haven't heard the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale :sly:

C1 Corvette... GT Mode, full mod, normal/sports tires, anywhere, maybe even Special Conditions mode... 200pt race?(it's easier than you'd think) ;-)

Old school euros and Japanese, maybe a competition between the two? Small bore cars?

I'd love to see some battles again, and indeed oldies are a good start:

  • Alfa Romeo GTA Vs. Isuzu Bellet GT-R or Nissan Skyline GT-R of similar years
  • Mercedes SL300 Vs. Jaguar E-Type (Needs power-balancing)

👍 👍 👍 from me too but then back to s-tyres please!
i especially like the merc/jag lineup, perhaps in a gt mode race against the likes. one example is the european classic car league, tracks fuji or suzuka. default power and tyres to make it a little challenge against ai.
the merc's ptw can be varied from 2.6 - 5.7 and the jag's from 2.3 - 4.3 so if we set it anywhere between 3 and 4 it'll be nice & even.

an alternative one-make race would be merc's sl challenge where the lovely gullwing could easily be matched against the amg's.

to honour the fact that the new skyline has been scooped and spotted all over the place maybe it's a good idea to dust off the skyline gt-r concept in gt4 and give it a gt mode sling across a track like amalfi (stickies please) or apricot hill (s's would do fine there i reckon).

I'd love to see something like a 2.0 or 3.0 PWR shootout. 👍
GT Mode S3 tires and GT Wings if they are availible.

Lately I've been comparing a Lotus Esprit '02 with Wing and S3s @ 2.5pwr to the RGT at the same tuning level without a wing (both cars are fully weight reduced and between 1100kg-1200kg 420hp-470hp).
Very similar cars and very similar times. Feels like a great rivalry to me. 👍 :fingerscrossed:
(btw, I started that comparo when looking for cars that were difficult to adjust for racing at Citi d Aria)
In any case I'm sure the combo will be a fun one (whatever it is).
Until next time,

I'm fully with Kent on a PWR shoot out. Back in GT3 WRS, that one event we did (I think race 100) was just a blast... I think I put more laps in at Trial Mountain than all other times on it combined.

Plus it makes for awesome surprise cars that come out of now where. Like the Opel Speedster I had keeping up with RX-7 in places.

I remember Boombexus coming up with a great lap in the Celica GT-Four when everyone in the series was running something else.

I also remember somebody (maybe sphinx, maybe someone else) running a Lotus elise in a PWR week when everyone was running the RGT. 👍
That was an interesting race as well.

Yes. Week 63, I believe, at Monaco. Lancia Stratos, with the tyres ranging from S1s to S3s. The subject came up a while ago, and Jerry promised to kick something similar up again...

thanks for the info. I do a tire handicap during the Sunday LAN races here. It seems it is more of an equalizer over the HP handicaps.

What would you guys think about an arcade mode Lotus Elan at Citti di Aria. I really love that car, and I think the track would be just right for it.
