Houston, Texas - The Holden Commodore SS, Ford F6 Typhoon, and Ford FPV GT were all announced as legal chassis for the remainder of season eight in Super Taikyu. Officials concluded testing for the three Aussies earlier today, and after brief deliberation, the cars have been allowed to run with Weight Reduction Stage 3. (Car horsepower levels are to be 500hp +10, or -25 approximately.)
"The cars are colossal in terms of weight compared to their ST1 counter-parts" explained technical director m.piedgros "heck, these beasts are colossal in terms of power too!" He joked, "it was a matter of common sense they be allowed this upgrade. Giving them the purpose built racing body won't give them any advantage, it merely equalizes performance with the far more road based Porsche GT3 and Opera Performance's 350z."
No official specs on time difference between the cars were released to the Super Taikyu news affiliates at the test site MSR in Houston, Texas. However, it is widely understood that m.piedgros and the Taikyu technical team have clearly done good work in the past.
Also on the agenda for the news men at the press conference for the announcement of the homologation of the three Australian dynamos, was the talk of series restructuring. "Currently I have no comment." m.piedgros stated, "The series is hurting on the international level for a multitude of reasons. It is a niche championship, and aside from the statistics, our experiences would say that the international public aren't interested in this niche." m.piedgros has never protested scheduling, or even the car list for the series, despite rumors of this.
"As a business we are most definitely concerned with the current state we are in. There are a number of options available for us to keep the series name around for a ninth, and hopefully beyond, season(s)." m.piedgros went on to say, "We'd definitely like to have a Taikyu tenth anniversary season, hopefully with GN+ still at the helm." Series head steward and CEO GN+ has been struggling with a number of issues, all out of his control. Issues related to the series include driver attendance. "I can see why he is getting aggravated with the situation." stated m.piedgros "Before coming to the Taikyu organization I worked on my own with the FIA GT3 Championship and it was driver attendance that killed us!"
If Taikyu fell victim to such issues-for instance driver attendance-it would most definitely not be alone. "Some admins lose interest in running races with such low attendance levels. If Taikyu dies, it will join countless others, and that is taking into account GT Planet series' alone!" stated racing expert X. Bert Racer. "How can someone be expected to go out there race after race taking all this time out of their personal lives to run an event for minuscule numbers? Racers and admins alike have to understand that. Some would say, you get what you give, however I do not necessarily subscribe to that, as Taikyu is a prime example of a very good admin, or group of admins for this matter, not getting what they give!" he continued.
Whatever is done, m.piedgros tried to make it clear that all members of the Taikyu organization were doing their darnedest to keep this long running series alive.
