Super Unofficial DiRT 4 Thread (PS4/XB1/PC)

I play with a 91% difficulty bonus. I regularly win stages, have clean runs and place in the top tiers of daily events. I haven't encountered any of the problems you have described, which suggests to me that the problem is with your driving style, not the game.
Congratulations? Way to pat yourself on the back? I've seen plenty of comments from people experiencing the same issues as me. If you don't believe me go give it a try.

So because you haven't encountered any issues means nobody at all has? :odd:

Also, we know you play with 91% difficulty, you don't need to continually post it.

It wasn't intended as a boast. I'm just pointing out that I have one of the highest difficulties available with all aids off, so if anything, I should be more likely to get the same problems that aarror is. But I'm not, so it sounds to me like the problem is his driving style. The only times I have ever come close to recreating his issues is when I put one wheel off the road and give it way too much throttle.

If you don't believe me go give it a try.
It's not that I don't believe you, it's that I don't think you're particularly good at the game. You're complaining about spinning a lot, particularly in Spain. The roads are tarmac and the verges are grass - a high-grip surface and a low-grip one. Is it really such a mystery as to why you're spinning around?

I don't like bragging about my times, but I was consistently in the top half of the top tier in Dirt Rally (I haven't done online events in Dirt 4 yet). So I don't think my driving is the issue.

Putting my driving aside for a moment, even if I did suck the behavior I've exprienced seems very wrong to me. I've experienced instant spins when putting a wheel off while having no power on, and while only putting a single front wheel off. Neither of these things are remotely realistic.

As was I. And while I have slipped down the order a bit with Dirt 4, I largely put that down to having less time on my hands to practice and memorise stages.

I'd think it has just as much to do with PC and console leader boards being combined (Which is awesome).

I find your claiming that I'm not very good is a rather poor argument anyways. There are plenty of people playing the game who aren't going to be on your level, and who are going to come across issues you may not have come across. To dismiss said issues because "you're good and you haven't experienced them" is rather arrogant.

Also I never complained about spinning a lot, simply that I've noticed the insta spins most in Spain as they happen in situations in which I've experienced a vastly different outcome in real life.

This coming from the man who refuses to play the game until the issue is fixed to his liking despite copious evidence that the issues you are experiencing can be overcome through practice?

Why play a game I'm not enjoying? If I want to play a rally game I'd rather boot up Dirt Rally. If Codemasters decides to address some of the problems with 4 I'll happily give it another chance, I think the game has a lot of promise. Until then, I'll stick with the game I prefer.

You can't expect to be immediately successful with it.
I've put 14.5 hours into it (most in the rally discipline), which is more than enough to form an opinion. Maybe I'll come back to it in a few months and give it another go, but for now there's just too many things I don't enjoy about it. Ultimately I play games to have fun, and I have a lot more fun with Rally than 4.

Had a go at some of the higher-level events today, the ones with as many as ninety entries. I was pleasantly surprised to see a few familiar names from Dirt 3 and Grid Autosport on the entry list.

I'm wondering when I'll come up against a certain Nathan McKane ...

Anyone got a Setup for the Mk II Escort?
I'll take a DiRT Rally Setup if no DiRT 4 ones are available.

Has anybody figured out how team offers work? I was looking forward to doing an event with a new team that I had unlocked for a while, but they disappeared when my reputation went up.

I've put 2 on the dirt autocrossing a couple times and the rear didn't snap around uncontrollably on me. Believe it or not cars don't actively try to kill you unless you do something stupid. The behavior in Dirt 4 when you put a wheel off can only be described as unnatural.

Especially in Spain, when I cut the corner with my front wheel my rear shouldn't come around. But it does.
Couldn't agree more, this seems like a glitch to me. I don't claim to be the best driver in the game, sure, but I find it hard to believe cars wildly spin in real life once they hit a different surface. Not only that but the way the cars spin feels unnatural, like the rear of the car will spin around no matter how hard you fight it or no matter how slow you're even going. It's beyond frustrating. Happens on Spain and Australia most frequently.

Realism or not (and if I do suck at driving), Dirt Rally didn't have this issue and it's hard going into Dirt 4 after playing Dirt Rally for so long. I'm on aarror's side here, the uncontrollable spins makes the game far less enjoyable.

The cars in Dirt 4 only spin when you accelerate. You've got two wheels on two different surfaces, so when you put more torque into them, the wheels cannot find a purchase and you spin. Especially if you're steering. If you're expecting that you can simply cross over the edge of the road without anything happening, you're going to get very frustrated, very quickly.

i don't think that's the case here, the spins are more unpredictable than that. This isn't my first time playing a racing game, far from it, but I wouldn't come on here and whine about the spinning if it were just a case of my poor driving ability. Seems to me that spinning is almost random and hard to avoid which goes against my normal driving habits in any racing game. I've messed around with the difficulty settings to better suit me, but still facing issues.

I definitely suck at this game, no question, but some consistency in how my car handles is all I'm asking for. In Dirt Rally I knew how my cars would handle and I played with no assists whatsoever. To come into Dirt 4 and dumb it down in what is supposed to be a more casual, accessible game is just odd.

Hi guys ive just got this about half an hour ago, after initially not wanting it, first question is where is the helicopter replay view?, im only on my first go i can cycle through all replay views etc...

And my fears on the replays are true, omg how terrible do they look at 30 frames per second, dirt rally has silky smooth and fluid replays this is a step back...Is it any different on a ps4 pro? @torque99

thanks

During a replay you can bring up a context menu (using Square on PS4, dunno about other platforms), I forget what the option is called but you can select a camera preference there (either mixed, car only or helicopter only).

Ok... sorry for asking this question for the millionth time... but...

Should I get DiRT 4? Upsides and downsides from DiRT Rally?

After spending a million credits or whatever it was to reach Grade A Private Collector, for 50% increased chance to find rare vehicles in the classifieds, I'm still not seeing cars with liveries. Almost never see liveries on any cars at all, strangely.

Anyone else getting this? I'd like cars with liveries rather than blank ones. Specifically the 95 Impreza with the 555 livery which I've never seen yet. Not to mention any of the H3 RWDs...

Well i only got it about 4 hours ago, i actually like it, plays great with wheel and pedals like dirt did, i seriously cannot play car game anymore with a pad.:(

there`s more locations now and extra vehicles, the track generator thingy, my only downside is the jerky 30 replays....60 frames on dirt.
But end of the day its personal taste, everyone's different, people rave about assetto corsa i bought that two times on ps4 and xbox one, ive ended up deleting both, at least i can re sell the discs glad it wasn't a download....

I'm only on Grade B Private collector but I haven't noticed much of a difference from Grade D (that was the last stage I was on before my upgrade). I hardly ever see used cars with liveries + all Grade B parts. From what you're saying, Grade A doesn't improve things.

The Fulvia I bought has a livery, but otherwise they have all been blank.

My day went from great to terrible in one stage.

I finished off the Group B weekly event and looked only to see I'm somehow in Tier 2. I Than went to do the Opel Daily where I beat the living crap out of the car by flipping twice and hitting a tree once, before slamming into the finish bollard at 100mph causing terminal damage. :banghead:

At least I did good in the one that pays the big money.

I managed to clutch Tier 2 in the Group B weekly even though I repaired a puncture halfway through a stage (The moment I saw a 30 second penalty appear, many expletives were shouted at the TV )

It is a good game but DR has more personality and is the better game. I would give DR a 8.5 and D4 a 8.0. D4 is more generic and is pick up and play nomatter Game/Sim mode. D4 works smoother with the DS4 than DR and the overall handling seems more forgiving. D4 has a good funfactor 👍

If you are not sure wait for Gravel from Milestone and make your choice between the two end of August ;)

I had something similar happen, although mine was a wheel falling off, it was during the same stage that I completely missed my braking point for a hairpin, costing me about 5 seconds. Other than that stage I finished in the 600's so I had a surprisingly good performance.
