Super Unofficial DiRT 4 Thread (PS4/XB1/PC)

Recently bought DiRT 4, and already I'm having issues. How do you guys manage to drive and listen to the pace notes simultaneously? Are there any tips or any way to do it more easily? My brain can only handle doing either one of them, so I'm forced to drive according to what I see ahead of the car. Also, I can't listen to the pace notes clearly, but I guess I can turn it up separately in settings. Every time I participate in a rally, I need several restarts just to score a top 3. And that was playing with AI difficulty set to the second easiest mode (I forgot if its name was Competent or Challenging). I can only imagine how hard it will be as I progress in the game to RWD cars.

I'm also available to add as a friend on PS4. (For PSN ID, don't use the one named in my profile, PM me if you really want to add me, as I created a new one for PS4.) I don't play much (around once to twice per week), and I doubt I would give you much of a challenge though.
I zone out and use the turn colours. :P

@doblocruiser @MeanElf I know you played a lot of DriveClub, With Evo now being at codies, do you feel the water effect on the windscreen, wipers, drips/gravity of water down the side windows at speed and the solid controller handling feels a little 'Driveclub' now? (A good thing) Everything feels more controlled now with the DS4 rather than codies usual light handling..It was just a thought but I feel some 'DriveClub' nice touches in Dirt4 or have I played too much Driveclub 👍...?

The important thing to remember is that rallying is about rhythm - about how you carry speed from corner to corner. What would be considered a perfect racing line in circuit racing might actually be pretty slow in rallying, so don't worry about nailing the apex. It's more important that you position the car properly on the corner exit. The best rally drivers don't push at 100% all the time because it's not sustainable. You'll end up doing what Kris Meeke does and go barrelling into the scenery. The best drivers hold something back for when they need to push.

Right now, you need to be comfortable in the car. You need to know what it can do and how it will respond. Once you know that and driving becomes second nature, the pace notes will come to you and you can extract the most speed out of the car.

Could well be. I mean it has been a good few years since water-splashes were last in a Codemaster's game (outside of DiRT Rally that is) as you can see from the following three examples, it has definitely improved and changed form:
Colin McRae DiRT 2 - Jim di Griz 57.png

The last though does look a lot more Driveclub in style - nice catch. The DS4 optimisation is also miles improved over DR which I'm grateful for, and I know others are too.

Water effect have indeed a similar feel but the handling is quite different between the two. Tightness of the controls are DC-like 👍 I do agree that de DS4 works much better in D4 than it did in DR. I switched back to simulationmode with the DS4 and it works great. I have the feeling being much more in control of the car. The difference with GameMode isn't that big besides the cars having more grip and less brakingdistance. The controls with DS4 are actually that good that the whole gamermode isn't even needed.

Talking about EVO, it is about time we get some news

@MeanElf looking at those 3 interior pictures, Dirt3 (PS3) looks more detailed in the interior graphics wise than the PS4 versions:confused:! Back then I remember thinking how good it looked with all the stickers and avatars, extra dials etc and there is not much progress in this view (which I use most of the time) they have gone back to basics!:grumpy:👍

Would've been fun if they made a couple of fantasy Rallycross circuits out of the Dirtfish area. I've been having a bit of a throw around and there are some marked trails that could be fun when put together.
Yes I agree some great little self made circuits :)

Also to see more buildings and empty car parks blocked off by fences, it is not such a large area as i first thought unless I am missing something? Is it possible to drive outside the metal mesh fencing areas?

Hi all,

For those wishing to compare times on the PS4, feel free to add me - Wolfman_UK

I don't get on as much as I would like, but still manage to post times - although it must be said that so far, I am unable to see friends times even though I know they have completed that stage. Possible glitch?

Found a classic liveried Stratos in the classifieds yesterday, best investment yet by miles. It's always been a beast , in DR - but this iteration is euphoric. That high rev scream through the hills in Spain, oh my. It's a MONSTER on tarmac and still fun on all else (except Sweden , f you Sweden )

Question pertaining to sponsorships. When I first started my team, I painted my cars in the Gulf Racing colors, since I didn't really know what to go with. I also bought the oils and lubricants (Might not be the exact name) perk in hopes of getting Gulf as a sponsor.

Is Gulf even available? I know it's on one of the RX Lights cars, but I wasn't sure if we could get it ourselves.

A question....As u progress thru career mode and your chief engineer is upgraded...Does the default car settings inprove as per chief engineers recomendation...?

Patch notes for Version 1.04

Hi all,

Please see below for the patch notes for our latest update – version 1.04:

- Grade E car parts should no longer cause a crash.

- Fixes to Flavour of the Week Trophy/Achievement

- Incorrect rep earned in multiplayer due to an issue with host migration is now addressed.

- Leaderboard improvements when they are heavily populated or finding your own times.

- Tuning differentials now functions correctly.

- Corrected unlock conditions in the “What’s This” dialogues in Career.

- PC Only - Terminally damaging your vehicle and then changing Windows focus should no longer hang.

- PC Only – Fixed issues with resizing or de-focusing the game window.

- PC Only – R9 graphics cards crash when competing in rainy conditions is now resolved.

- PC Only – Switching from Ultra to High graphics mid-stage will no longer cause an issue with the stage shadowing.

Incorrect rep earned in multiplayer due to an issue with host migration is now addressed.

This is a big one. So many times I would earn 2 or 3 points at the end of a Pro Tour event and then when it loaded back to the tier screen I would actually lose 4 points instead. Extremely aggravating.

I don't think so.

Aw. Bummer. Played around with a few different colors just now; tried to go with something resembling a Snap-On theme.

Also, for anyone wondering, I just hut rank 29, "Famous" and got the 2001 Subaru with the Subaru Rally Team livery.

Does Australia seem more slippery than the other stages to anyone else? I feel like they swapped the Sweden handling physics with Australia by accident.

The back end of the car on Australian stages seems to always want to be out front. I'm nervous flying through the stages knowing that a slight touch of the edge will send my car in a violent spin. Shame too, the other 4 locations are perfectly fine for me.

The community events are superb.

I know others have mentioned liveries, could really do with more livery style options. if you're going to give people such good options for colour, then more than about 6-7 livery types would be nice!

The comunity events were one of my cavorite things about DR and i am very glad they brougbt them over to D4. Started doing the pro tour races and i gotta say they are pretty intense sometimes.

well, i am pretty certain i just killed the same group of people twice on today's daily. also got the same right 2, hairpin left with high rock walls on both sides 3 times i think. the stage generator is really cool and i like that people can't memorize the stages for the most part, but it shows it weakness in longer stages for sure. hopefully it gets improved over time.

It would be nice if there was more variety in both road sections as well as scenery. It seems like there is always something on the side of the track, which is fine with snow as you'd expect a bank on the side of the road and trees in the forest. However having a berm on the side of the non-snow covered road a majority of the time seems rather unrealistic.

It's not just Australia, if you touch the edge of the road in any location the car is sent into a violent spin. It's as though the grip coefficient for off track is way too low. It's a game breaking bug for me, until they fix it I'm not coming back.

It's not a glitch. That's exactly what happens if you put wheels off the roadway. If you keep pitching into a wild spin, it's not a problem with the game, but with your driving style.

I've put 2 on the dirt autocrossing a couple times and the rear didn't snap around uncontrollably on me. Believe it or not cars don't actively try to kill you unless you do something stupid. The behavior in Dirt 4 when you put a wheel off can only be described as unnatural.

Especially in Spain, when I cut the corner with my front wheel my rear shouldn't come around. But it does.

I play with a 91% difficulty bonus. I regularly win stages, have clean runs and place in the top tiers of daily events. I haven't encountered any of the problems you have described, which suggests to me that the problem is with your driving style, not the game.
