Also, I heard Leno's tank car is gonna be in GT4...can't wait for that!

One of my favorite vehicles that Leno owns, which could be a sleeper - if there is enough road to get up to speed - is his MTT Y2K Superbike. (Marine Turbine Technology) For those that don't know, it's basically a superbike with a Rolls-Royce Helicopter Turbine engine in it. The thing has no measurable horsepower numbers, because in a turbine engine, as the speed increases, so does the horsepower, but on The History Channel, Leno says it could make about 300hp! On a motorcycle! There's only one downside of the bike, and that's the sound. (To the neighbors at least :)) Sound Clip of the same engine used in the Y2K Superbike, but on a helicopter.

Here's the horsepower numbers from MTT themselves...how's this for RPMs? - 320hp @ 52,000rpm

---EDIT---
After re-reading my post just now, I remembered there are two downsides to the bike - 1)the noise; and 2) the $185,000 USD price tag :D

holy moly that thing would be crazy to see. i heard that it can go 200+ mph no problem. that new dodge motorcycle is going to be able to beat that though. oh about that burnout contest leno would have beat allen no problem if it was just burning out in place but it was for distance. leno had slicks on and he caught traction too quickly.

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:

I am not sure if its street legal but I would like say the Lingenfelter Twin Turbo Corvette is a good sleeper! :embarrassed: Its from the corvettefever.com site.

0-60: 1.97 Seconds
Top Speed: 230 MPH
1/4 mile: 8.95 @153.7 MPH
HP: 1,100 HP

WAIT! I guess it is street legal according to the magazine print out of the corvette: "The big street-legal Mickey Thompson tires are no match for the power of this 8 second Corvette. COMPLETELY street LEGAL, this corvette not only smokes the tires but also is completly streetable right up to top speed of 230 MPH"
Hmm... I think I just saw one today.
A good sleeper would be a 240SX with a SR20DET swap.

1999 Dodge Dakota R/T

to the untrained eye ... a bright blue pickup with chrome wheels... big whoop

what you don't know... is what lies under the hood...

an intercooled twin turbocharged stroker 408

here's a couple pics my freinds tt r/t

check it out more at...The R/T

he also has a 2001 neon with a SRT-4 engine swap... <<<nother sleeper

How's this for a sleeper?

First gen S-10 with shoty paintwork and a little rust along the bottom at first glance.

But pop the hood and take a look

Thats a Small Block 350 Chevy motor cramed under the hood of that truck.

I don't know about the horsepower he never said in his post. But I've seen S10's on another forum push about 300-400 horsepower. Thats about the average for those trucks.

cool... that's alright for a chevy... but if my freinds dyno goes as planned he's looking to get 1000 rwhp and 1200 lbs ft trq. which equals around 9.9 in the 1/4 mile...

go to the dream cruise this year?

Yo bet me and my truck club were crusing all over all week last year. In fact one of our guys got on Channel 7 news, the lady thought his truck had hydros when it was bagged, we got a kick out of that.

But this year only some of use are going since Indy Truck bash is the same weekend. I'll be chilling out in front of Fast Signs in Birmingham.

The 1996 Impala SS with the Corvette 350 and Tremec T-56 6 speed.

The 1990 Plymouth Laser Turbo with the Eagle Talon AWD and 16 valve 1.8 turbo. MT tests: 0-60 in 7.2 seconds. Our 60-year-old school guidance counselor has one sitting on 17 inch OZ's!

The Silverado SS (from GT4) 470 horsepower in an extended-cab pickup. Can you say 'ownage'?

The Merc-Benz G55 AMG SUV. Comes with 5.5L Supercharged V8 with 469 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. There will be only 300 made.

well, I agree completely with Punk Rock, most of these wouldn't fit the definition of a sleeper if their life depended on it. Twin turbo lingenfelter vette? please. S-series Audis? come on. In fact, I dont think that even the Altima will, and that is because most of us people who are intrested in cars know what each car has under the hood. The most awesome sleeper posted here is that twin turbo Dakota, Leno's Buick, the Corolla and the LS1 Miata elsewhere. there are NO factory sleepers, a sleeper has to be a modified car. yeah, maybe they look lame and tame from the factory, but their potential is something everybody can have access to. that isnt a sleeper, a sleeper is a car nobody knows about its performance until they kick you.

This vehicle (called the Plymouth Laser RS Turbo AWD) was only produced from 1992 to 1994, not 1990 as you say. I have no idea why you would classify it as a sleeper, either - it's the exact same vehicle as the 90-94 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX and Eagle Talon TSi AWD, and pretty much everyone knows about these things at this point. That, and they weren't even really all that fast in stock form (as you say, 0-60 in 7.2, though that's on the high side of figures I've heard, which range from 6.6 to 7.0).

I was at the import drags today and I saw a white Evo 3 which looked completely stock but ran a 10.7 1/4 mile. There was also a 1978 Toyota Corolla Coupe with a Toyota quad cam 32 valve V8 with 250kw at the flywheel. It sounded utterly delicious but only ran a flat 13 due to a completle and utter lack of traction 👍

You didn't happen to see the white MX-5 with a 1UZFE (same V8 as mentioned above) did you?

I saw it run but I didn't see it in the pits to find out what it was running. MX5 + Toyota V8 = great burnouts

It was parked up over by the entrance on that little patch of grass on your left. I've seen it around at previous drag events and I think it would be the wrong car to sneek up on :mischievous:

I'll look through my photo collection I'm sure I took a picture of it..

Yup:

I know a guy with an insane sleeper.

He calls it "The Doomwagon"

It's a, completely externally stock, 1988 Subrau legacy wagon. It's very boxy, and very generic looking.

Pop the hood, though, and you'll find a bit of a surprise. It's a 320HP WRX STi motor, out of a GC8 Impreza. It's mated to an STi six-speed transmission, custom mounted and installed, even down to a custom shift surround and boot. It's been converted to RWD by removing the forward shafts.

Even the gauges are super-sleeper, being hidden behind the clear "glass" of the stock cluster.

I didn't read the entire thread so I apologize if this was already mentioned but what about old Pintos with big blocks shoved in the back. Who would suspect a Pinto could burn rubber?

Everyone will recognize the sound with a big-block. Also, I think it's unlikely that such an engine will slip under the stock hood. The 2.3 Turbo is a quite common (and deadly) swap--it'll give you 10 sec timeslips with no telltale exhaust note.

The 850 is way more of a sleeper than your damn Saab!!! The Saab looks fast, the 850 looks Volvoish!

True, but I prefer the 9000s quirky styling over the boxier 850. Not to mention the fact that the Aero model still has a 3 horsepower advantage over the 850 Turbo. :sly:

Saab 9000 = me.

I agree! :sly: Not that I would know anything about that engine... :sly: :P :D

It also has 37lbs.

Saab 9000 = me.

Well as of yesterday, Volvo 850R = me. Let's race. :D

MrktMkr1986
Chances are I weigh less than you. That might make up for the difference.

No, I mean the Saab has 37lbs. But when it comes down to 37lbs and three horsepower, it's all about which car's been maintained better.

Plus - the 850R has 240 horses, not 222 like the normal 850 Turbo, which potentially ends the discussion. 850 Turbo vs. 9000 Aero and '97 850 GLT vs. 9000 CSE would be quite a race though.

True. What I meant to say, though, was that if I personally am lighter than you, that might make up for the weight difference between the cars.

It's a moot point, though, in light of the following:

End of the discussion? Not necessarily... boost controller. All I have to do is transfer the one in my car to the one in the Saab. :sly:

Wait... is your car a 5-speed? :nervous: :ill:
