Tesla moving their HQ to Texas.

In May 2020, when there was a tense situation with COVID-19, California continued to block the start of Tesla's factory, although all automakers in the United States had already begun work. While Musk selflessly tried to resist the actions of the government, trying to start the factory and provide tens of thousands of its employees with work, the authorities did not choose appropriate nor wise words in expressing their opinion about him, turning to personal insults and using obscene language.

For example, California Assemblywoman Lorena S. Gonzales, who provides strong support for fossil fuels, posted “**** Elon Musk” on Twitter. This behavior is unacceptable for a government official and indicates serious problems in the apparatus of the state, which needs change. It is this behavior that has become one of the reasons why the business, which brought billions of dollars in revenue to the state treasury every year, is partially moving its activities elsewhere.

This article is a real gem. You don't often get such disinterest in actual journalism combined with such poor understanding of how math works combined with such a limited grasp of how to write sentences. 😵

It's a Tesla fan/news site. Of course it paints Elon in God's light.

Edit* The author fangirls hard over Tesla & Elon. 😶

Honestly didn't even read it. 🤣 Was more for the headline.

Edit: replaced crappy link with generic tweet.

Any idea where? If they move it to the right spot Tesla could single-handedly flip an entire congressional district.

That said, I have a feeling a lot of Tesla employees are groaning right now and looking for new jobs. Politics is a big deal with young people these days and due to the wealth of opportunities in California I have to imagine many of them will absolutely not move shop to Texas in order to stay with Tesla. I don't blame them. Texas is not a consumer-, employee-, or people-friendly state. I've got several friends who have either already moved or are planning moves from the Houston area back home to Ohio next spring. When life in Texas has gotten so weird that it convinces you to move back to southwest Ohio, you know things have gone wrong.

Probably Austin.
Wouldn't surprise me, it's one of the very few enclaves of (almost) normalcy in what's otherwise become a hotbed of politically fueled idiocy. I also wouldn't be surprised if more of SpaceX's facilities start migrating that way in the near future as well, if Elon truly isn't welcome in Cali anymore.

A Starlink facility has already been announced for the area. They also have an expanding facility in McGregor for engine testing, and of course Starbase near Brownsville.

Oh, I know. I'm just speculating that some of that 4,000-ish acres they have in in McGregor might also be housing the HQ building from Hawthorne if Texas cuts them a good enough deal. And from the sound of things, the government down there might just sign half the state over to Elon if they think it'll give them any political sway.

Thought SpaceX's facilities were based in South Padre already? I know that's where they've been launching from.

Their main headquarters and Falcon 9 construction facility are in Hawthorn. The Dragon capsules, Merlin engines and Raptor vacuum engines are built there as well. Sea level Raptor engine construction and development is moving to McGregor. All Starship and Super Heavy development and launching is at Starbase (Boca Chica) east of Brownsville.

They just can’t, man. Seriously. Looks straight out of a Buck Rogers episode. If Gil Gerard does an ad…. I tell you.. Or the first sketch for Dynamo’s car(from The Running Man. Obviously, he couldn’t fit).

When only low res versions of the car show up in the distance because of the simulation having bad LOD. 😅
They're just trying for nostalgia by making it look even more like a Nintendo 64 model than it already does.

Given how people treat rental cars in general, this should prove a pretty solid real-world test of their reliability and build quality, especially since they'll be used by people who are probably largely unfamiliar with EVs.

Also rather interesting is this bit I saw in a Bloomberg article:
Bloomberg points out that the cost of the order implies that Hertz is paying list prices for the Teslas, and is thus not getting a discount for its large order, which car-rental companies usually get from automakers.

Hertz's venture capital overlords must be using this as an opportunity to invest in Tesla in an indirect and less risky manner.

They'll probably crack that stock again soon because it's getting unaffordable. Every time they do they get even more individual investors buying in. They have to know it helps them overall. I think the company has a long future, especially when the Semi comes out.

Tesla is currently worth more than the entire rest of the automotive industry. It's got nothing to do with the actual business anymore.

Apple has a price to earnings ratio of 29
Tesla has a price to earnings ratio of 330

One is a dominant player in it's respective market(s!) and has reach to nearly every person on earth and control over an entire ecosystem which it can continuously extract revenue from. The other has very serious competition emerging all around it, a pretty limited product portfolio that doesn't appear to be expanding very much and limited ability to collect revenue after initial sale.

But to the moon I guess?

To be fair, I can see expanded markets for Tesla. They could generate revenue from electric car charging now that they have built out their supercharger infrastructure...but if they open it broadly to non-Teslas, that risks boosting their competitors. It's hard for me to see a reality in which Tesla is 10x more valuable than Apple.

Tesla is good for the American economy. First of all, it's own growth is staggering. Second of all, they light a fire under the asses of nearly-defunct legacy automakers who have consistently failed to innovate since after they invented the assembly line.

Edit: @R1600Turbo I'm slightly offended that you're still using Robinhood after all their drama. That company can go to hell too.

I think it's a matter of getting trapped out of the Tesla.
