Thanks for the extra detail in the explanation, 12thgear.

I really have a good understanding of the feel of the shifters now. I have had many joysticks over the years, so I know pretty well how they all feel.
I kinda forgot about your review as I had already ordered the TH8 RS at the time and wasn't interested in the shifters at all at that point in time. So basically it never stuck in my head. Sorry.

Yeah, the Logitechs are far too wobbly (especially the G25 which is operating completely freely it feels like). I once considered doing the same mod chillichoke did though, but never got around to it really.

Think it will be worthy it to get the CSR shifters with the CSW until the CSS comes out?

Hey thanks 12thgear. I was sitting down waiting for bf3 to update when i posted. All memory:) never used any other joystick before either.

I think it depends on when the CSS actually comes out. It's not a Fanatec priority. They're focusing on their next gen wheels.

If you're not concerned with the Xbox 360, the TH8RS is imminent and looks pretty sweet. It'll work fine with GT5 and PC games. The CSR set is $70, which isn't insignificant. My gut says if you just need a temporary solution just get the cheap, plastic Porsche shifters. They work just fine, even if they're low rent. They're $30 now. If you're up for a project you can always mod them like Caz did.

Lol thanks. I'll have pics for you guys next week. There are a couple of mods I'm doing that no one has done before. Let's just say I did some surgery to my VR3. Hehe.

No potentiometer & no tactical switch inside TH8 RS Shifter: it's an Hall Effect sensor:

With this:
- No calibration problem with time
- Unlimited cycle life
- You can adjust any plate on the top
- You can adjust Gear strokes as you like

Sorry Mayaman. Somehow I didn't notice your post. Lovely mods, but since I have only a desk chair and no rig I have no way to bolt that holder anywhere.

Wildrun, I know about the tech of the shifter but thanks for getting us back on topic. Although this talk about shifter tech in general is good in any thread as one gets to know the products better or on a deeper level. Making us in the end better in making comparisons when the final product arrives at our doors by the courtesies of Postman Pat.

Oh and 12th gear. I better let my order stand so I can do another review as well then on it. It does seem to be the better shifter over the other two.

Alright, I cancelled my order and brought my order to another shop of which the link was given to me by Thrustmaster via Facebook. New arrival date, November 1st. So next week :D

Oh snap I just blew $200+ on my new clubsports and will probably blow some more on other stuff leaving not much money for my new shifter I've been waiting for since the T500RS released :ill:

Come on guys soon as you get your shifter keep us posted. In another month or so I still plan to get one atm.

Oy! What do you think i've been doing? :P
But yeah, it feels like I am the only one keeping this thread alive almost. As in, when I look at the previous page I only see my avatar. :S

Sorry about having you spend your money on other goodies by writing such a review. ;)

For the $69 you'll pay and then the $25 or so dollars for a leather boot you can't go wrong. I'll be posting picks next week when my VR3 is done with this mod.

Please do post some pics . I own a VR3 also.👍

Thanks for the info.

In my case, it takes a final price (including taxes and shipment) of 169,90 €, too many expensive considering that spanish shops anounces this item for a price around 115 € plus shipment (but probably to ship in january or february... ).

I´m keeping my order at Amazon UK, for the moment.

This mod requires you cut the tubes in a pretty drastic fashion. But when done, its a perfect mount for Fanatec shifters and looks like it came from VisionRacer like that. If you're comfortable with that then 👍

@Mayaman

That does sound drastic :nervous:. I have been working on some tubing myself for a button box , No cutting involved . I am working with 32mm electrical conduit atm just for the mock up.

Anybody with a GamePod rig have any ideas about mounting this shifter? Side mounted to the wheel deck? Or lower mounted to the Rumble plate under the seat? Either way it is going to take some metal fabrication.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Vince

I believe someone mentioned that the people at GamePod are already working on a compatible shifter mount for the TH8 RS. Forgot where though. I'll see if I can find it, it was somewhere here in this forum at least.

Yeah, I saw that too. I am not going to pay for shipping to the US for something that cost less. I can wait to see what they come up with and dupe it though.

dont care about the mailman and opening of cardboard boxes, but thx.

but love to hear how shifter works in game, quality of build etc...

i have a gamepod cokpit, i heard from a reliable source that they will make a shifter holder for it, question is when will it be available.

Lunarwolf seems to have said it.

Maybe you can make something yourself. Seems to be a square metal bar of 4 cm by 4 cm. So if you are any good with welding or know a guy who can, you can easily make yourself a mount. A bar of half a meter should be enough, cut it up at a 45 degree angel, welt it in the right position and then weld a steel plate to it. Make some screw holes in that and you're done. I think. :P

I don't know the gamepod, but the G25/27 mount looked that simpel in construction. :dopey:

Well it's not that bad. I'm not using the curved upper section or the faux carbon piece. And I cut one inch off the tube attached to the seat. The rest I'll show in pics later.

FYI you should contact simroom and order the new beefier seat plates and shifter mount. Absolutely zero wobble.

Hi,

I had asked that on their facebook page a while ago and they replied that they are making a side mounted shelf for the TH8RS. Still, I was wondering if the G27 side mount could work given how versatile the TH8RS shifter is for mounting.

Sure it would work. But why on earth would anyone want their shifter set up that high? It would just seem too unreal like. IMO it should be mounted in a lower position. Probably with the gate around thigh high, giving an additional 5" or so more hight with the stem and knob.

Usually the gate levels just above the height of the sliders, and depending on seat position it should be about 10 to 30 or 40 centimeters away. And 5 to 10 centimeters away from the side of the chair. Of course it should never be mounted to the chair itself because longer people have longer arms. Adjusting the seat with the slider with the shifter attached to the seat would thus only account for the length of the drivers feet and not their arms, which could result, due to the shifter being too close for tall people, in them hitting the arm against the chair not being able to shift freely.

That's how it should be.

Ps. These are just rough measurements from memory.

So then mounting to the wheel platform would be the right idea? Only dropping it down to get the right height. Using the GP GT2 rig that is.

New update references the TH8 RS in its descriptions. So does that mean its ready to ship as game is ready for it.

Correct! November 1st most shifters will be released. Next batch after that coming in on the 15th of November. So every 2 weeks there is a new big batch.

Glad to hear there is support in GT5. So that means it supports multi USB devices now in general or just the shifter? I would love to use the CSP with the T500 RS. And next week also the shifter of course.

@Vince: mounting it to the wheel mount is a thing you could do, but it's quite a drop from up there. Plus since the wheel height is adjustable, your shifter would go with it.

I would personally think that making a small mount that clamps on the bars on the floor and rests its weight on the floor would be easier. Plus that way you can keep moving everything around until you are comfortable with wheel height, seat position and shifter position.

Yeah, do a clamp type thing with a rectangle bar coming up to a plate. With a bend or two and finding the right height. Do all this till the sweet spot is found, then mount it.

You guys want me to take some pics of the Evo's shifter with a tape measure so as to help get the right spacing.

I had used this in my G27 Cockpit and it felt very natural. Wait it should. Hahaha

Seriously though it be a slick idea to chart a few different cars seat, pedals, wheel, and shifter and lay out some prints on CAD for later usage.

Already talking about doing another cockpit if the new wheel from Fanatec is advanced as I suspect.

Yes Owens, I could use some ideas. I kind of have the thought but would like some general spacing guidelines. I know there is no set way for everyone since some folk like different ergonomics. But before I go to laying bead I would like to make sure I am happy and dont need any adjustments.:dopey:
