For me, the best of this option is to can turn the plate 180º to get the neutral between 5 and 6 gears (in games with gear mapping), ideal to mount the shifter for left hand driving.

I'm not certain that's the way it works is it?

I'd imagined a fixed stick / pattern position with the mount rotating around it, so neutral will always be between third and fourth. If it could be used the other way round, you'd have to tell the game which way up you had it, which I'm reasonably sure will never be available on PS3. Possibly on PC, but still unlikely in my book.

Edit: or in fact I maybe completely wrong :) seeing how the plate swivels too

Moving swiftly along, how will folks set theirs up? I'm pretty sure I'll be setting shortest throw and maximum resistance to make it feel as much like my car as possible.

I am not too sure papa . I haven't read much into the shifter about ajustability . I will have a read up nearer the time .
Have you more details the different settings that have not been posted here .?

Nah, nothing new, just actually reading the amazon page having preordered:

- Upgradable firmware and internal memory with adjustable gear-shift travel (downloadable software on PC)
- Adjustable resistance when changing gear

- Shift-plate position and rotation adjustable by 360°
- Clamping system position and rotation adjustable by 360°

One thing I'd missed previously as well was that it's got hard mount points too :)

Optimal clamping (built-in “screw threads” + removable clamping system):

Should be on the black stuff, there´s three holes there anyways.

ok after waiting since the 3rd of sept 2011 for my frex sequential order to be processed , i decided to cancel the order now and get this instead. hopefully will work with fanatec or g27 wheel

i spent 600 on the steering wheel and luv it but if this isnt gonna work with xbox i'm gonna write off my loss not buy the shifter n prob buy the fanatec. bad move as far as sales TM for only workin with pc n ps3.but the product looks like quality.

The G25/27 is great but feels toy like, the Fanatec is oddly crunchy and seems to drag and bind on every shift, the ActLabs behaves like a larger version of the G25/27 without feeling toylike and has longer throws so you feel like you are playing with a more "real-like" transmission shifter and is pretty smooth but still lacks positive firm tactile "reception" of the gear being engaged.

You obviously never driven an STi with a short shifter, wich is about half throw compared to my G27. I can actually shift faster IRL than in GT5 using the "same" car, the '07 STi

* "same" because IRL the STi I got to drive isnt a S204, sadly :guilty:

£130 for a shifter?
I'd rather wait for CSS.

Do you expect Fanatec's CSS to be lower price than the TH8 RS shifter? This post is not very clear. But by all means enjoy the wait for the CSS. People have been talking bout it for a long time now and Thomas has not given you guys any hints that it will be out soon last time I checked

[edit] in another thread Thomas just hinted about the CSS so perhaps it is coming soon.

As stated at the very top of my original post, this shifter is made for PC / PS3.

yes i was well aware of it before i bought it.and dont have any regrets about it but moving foward and seeing fanatec multi-platform i will not buy the shifter or any other products for this wheel unless it goes multi-plat

I said I'd rather wait for CSS because I find the ClubSport items to be more professional. And besides, if I'm spending £100+ on a shifter I'd rather go for Fanatec than Thrustmaster.

I was saying the same thing about Fanatec's CSW. That wheel would have been an instant buy for me if it supported xbox 360. I have too much PS3/PC only wheels already.

There is a specific reason why we see wheels like the CSW and the T500 on PS3 and PC only. Microsoft imposes too much limitations on what wheel makers can and cannot do with their designs. The fact that the T500 RS supports some form of a quick release means it could only be PC and PS3 only.

If you were a wheel designer and were looking to create the most definitive wheel in console racing, you would probably have to forgo xbox 360 support to do it as well. Check out the differences between the CSW and the Elite wheel for evidence of how limiting xbox 360 support can be.

It's not a bad move by these companies when they put out the best racing wheels on the PS3 and PC only. It's a bad move by Microsoft for not allowing them enough leeway to do the same for wheels that are compatible with their console.

With the amount of time they are taking to develop the CSS, it better live up to the hype it gets for Fanatec's sake. After seeing the CSW, I don't doubt that it will.

Keep in mind though, it will not be a gated shifter, so if that is what you want, you are going to have to go with something else. In my opinion, this is at least part of what makes the TM shifter hype right now. It's a high sim quality, gated shifter compatible with a console.

You make that sound like so much money. I probably spent more than that on my wheelstand (I'm not familiar with that currency but I imagine that converts into less than $200 US currency). You picked an expensive hobby

And what- you find Fanatec to be more professional than Thrustmaster? I like Fanatec/Thomas but I did not think it was very professional when I had to wait for months on my preordered gt2 + CSPs. I had a much easier time walking into a store and picking up my T500rs. Anyway Thomas has changed the preorder policy now so it seems like Fanatec is making positive changes. So I will be giving them another shot in the near future*

Do you even have a Fanatec wheel/pedal? Just seems like an odd post

Best to judge each product on its own merit.

Fanatec's preview for the shifter looks to be a bit like a borg cube and a lollipop on top. (sorry Mr T). Certainly on looks alone the Thrustmaster shifter is refreshingly stylish. I dont doubt the Fanatec will be good also but with no announced release who knows when it will be shipping?
