TH8 RS Shifter Thread!

Sprayed mine down with a good lubricant we use at the shop when I got it. Have zero problems. Knock on wood. Wish the wheel and pedals were problem free like this shifter.

I'm having trouble with missing shifts once in a while. I have my TH8 RS connected to my rig using a 10' Usb cord so it will reach my PS3. Went to a powered USB hub for the shifter and that seemed to help. Still missing a few shifts so I was wondering if it's me, or does the TH8 RS needs to be plugged directly to the PS3 as per the manual.

Anyone here that is using the shifter with the WSP stand?
I bought the deluxe version but it just seems that the shifter will be way to high :/

I imagine it should be fine. I use a TH8RS on a Fanatec RennSport Wheel Stand. The height isn't an issue for me. I imagine the Wheelstand Pro will work fine too, judging from photos.

I'm about to make a bracket for my buddy using a g27. Moving it out down and back towards driver some. Ill post pics of it when complete.

Might duplicate it with TH8 mount for ya if you want. ;)

For those with Human Racing GT Chassis. The TH8RS is a great fit with only 1 extra hole needing to be drilled:

All that is required is the following hole to be drilled at 40mm from the center of the inside hole, I also counterbore the hole :). Then remove the clamp from the TH8RS base (3 screws). The screws for mounting the G27 shifter can then be used for the TH8RS mounting.

Here is the bare shift rod with extra hole:

Im trying to decide on a wheel/shifter/pedal set, was gonna get the XL pack from fanatec but everyone says that the CSPs are the bidness so i must have those. I was thinking of getting the CSR wheel, will the th8 shifter work with the fanatec csr wheel on gt5 without an adaptor board? I could of sworn I saw someone (I think on the insidesimracing forum) that said it did. Also if anyone has a picture of it mounted to the rennsport wheelstand I would appreciate it. Thanks

Greetings, TH8RS owners. I'm a fellow sim racer and tinkerer who is looking to develop a short shift solution for the venerable Thrustmaster TH8RS. If you're like me, and thought "Sweet baby jesus, the throw on this thing is massive!" then you might be interested.

I've already done some research and have a couple prototypes in development as we speak, but I'm also very interested in what others would want in a product. I created a simple Google survey, and if you're interested in staying abreast of the process, sign up for the newsletter.

The survey is short; takes about 30 seconds. The mailing list is spam-free. Thanks so much for your feedback!

Nice survey. If it's good I'll buy from you. If you can make it stiffer, slightly notchy (basically more tactile), that'll be great.
No, I don't see you as a competitor, as I don't see myself as a vendor. Just helping out fellow enthusiasts ;)

Any Colin McRae fans around? Was trying to make my own stickers using the inkjet printer for my modded RMK button box but it didn't work out so I ended up sticking them to my short shift plate. I think it looks ok :)

Thanks for all the short shifter feedback so far. Here's a peek at my shorter lever prototypes compared to the original. Again, if this is something you're interested in, fill out the survey and/or sign up for mailing list.

The finish looks better than the original. Sorry I'm anti chrome, not the browser, love the browser ;).

I did enquire with an engineering shop here about making short shafts just like that before. It was too expensive. If you can get these made and if affordable, I'll get a couple from you.

If you are asking people for thread size at the top, well, my preference is M10 x 1.5 pitch. Same as Frex, same as most Hondas I think. :)

Yeah, the challenge will be getting the manufacturing cost down to something reasonable. That's why I'm trying to gauge the interest level. If, say, 100 people are interested I can probably get the price down to something very affordable.

Also, finding a "common" thread size seems like it will be pretty hard. We can definitely do better than the 9mm that's on there now, though.

When I explored options for shorter shaft, it came down to either cutting and re-threading the stock shaft, getting a threaded stud or getting a custom knob that sits lower than the stock one. In the end I opted for the custom knob by P.I.

...but had a shaft like one of the prototypes you posted been on the market, I would have snapped that up in a heartbeat to use with one my after-market Honda SiR knobs I have laying around.

I think there is also a market for short shift plates that aren't just 6 speed.

Personally, I am not so concerned about the finish, as I am the functionality for either the shaft or short-shift plates.
But the finish does seem to be important to some from previous posts I have read on this thread.

Hey JogoAsobi, buy it anyway, we need to make it affordable. ;)

Mayaman, if you are reading this, buy half a dozen ;)

I'm not fussed about the finish either, function over form. Top thread doesn't matter much either cos most after market shift knobs have universal adapters, if not, I'm sure we can still make it fit, even if permanent (weld it :D)

LOL, I did the survey and said I was onboard. I still want one. :)
I would have gotten one your plates too if Villenueve73 hadn't made one for me.
I really lucked out there.

If it works, I'm good, guess thats why 80/20 looks pretty to me. :dopey:

I'd like short ones two normal ones and two longer ones. Let me know when available..

Thanks

Longer ones got my attention! Any plans for that?
Something with a slight bend about 3x the length of stock shaft would be great for sequential shifter.

I won't need to hang shifter mounts on my wheel deck to have the shifter close to the wheel in that case.

After paying special attention to my car's shifter I started wondering if it might be better to have a longer shaft with a tiny gate. Especially since I hardly had to move my stick left and right in my car.
Never played with the TH8 calibration software though, so I don't know if this is possible.

Plus there is the issue with the shifter internals. You'll loose the feel of the shifter popping into 'gear'. At least this is the issue with the current design of the internals.

Logi, the main thing the calibration software does is allow you to re-size the neutral zones in-between the gears. So when I changed out the stock shifter plate for the short shift one, I was able to go in and adjust to compensate for the shorter distances.

Is the person making these shafts going to actually follow through? I'm very interested in the shafts I mentioned. Two short, two stock length, and two that are a half length longer than stock. Has anyone PMd this person? Are the shafts the same circumference as the stock shaft? Looks like it in the photos.
