The 2018 F1 driver transfer discussion/speculation threadFormula 1

Elaborate?

What's there to elaborate it's pretty easy to deduce if you follow the sport. Hamilton has been doing music making and work for years now, Hamilton has easily shown he can fight for a title and be overseas in the states on his off time. Hamilton has said last year he rates himself having at least 4 more years in him, that was last year. He also said he doubt he'll retire before 2020 in a separate interview. Sure things can change but considering the evidence and his own accounts, oh and the rumors he's already signed a 2 year extension with Merc...kind of hard to understand why you can't simply agree until evidence suggest otherwise.

Ted Kravitz suggested it in FP2. He must not follow the sport either  Please forgive me for asking the question. Go back to talking about nothing 👍

Good for him? Kravitz has been a type to suggest stuff like this and go for tabloid rumors either of his own creation or elsewhere, which is why he's highly disliked by the community.

Kravitz is a wally. At least the Sky producers seem to have told him to be more succinct when they cut to him during races.

Seems like Alonso could join Renault for next year, keeping him in F1. Sounds like bad news for Carlos who you'd expect to go back to Torro Roso if Danny stays on

Only took them several seasons. It was a tough choice between Crofty in session commentary or the random dork cutting him off every moment with late news or irrelevant news, or his own brand of tabloid.

Perhaps Kravitz has the abilities to entertain ideas without taking every single one of them 100% seriously, you know, for the sake of some fun banter about F1....something a few of you folks around here could perhaps learn from.

Corvette, you’ve always seemed pretty technically savvy....figure you could do a better job than Ted the Wally?

Why would we need to learn about banter and conjecture in a typically silly game of musical chairs to begin with? That doesn't make sense, why force silly when it comes naturally. Also I didn't call him Ted the Wally, might want to slowly read the posts. Though I will admit now that you've brought it up that @TenEightyOne isn't far off.

Formula 1 is an overly serious thing and no type of banter is considered "fun".
Do you have any data to back up that claim?

Ok, so you are incapable of fun banter. Good to know 👍

I know you didn’t call him a Wally. Ten called him a Wally, which I though was a funny name, so I too called him a Wally. You don’t need to ask me to read anything slowly, my comprehension is just fine. Perhaps you should reread the conversation slowly, try keep up with the banter....but we already know that’s not you’re strength, so...

That's not true, if it weren't some of us would never participate in the F1 funny caption thread, or joke about some of the more laughable moves, decisions and comments the teams and drivers do without tabloid-esque help

It's quite interesting to see a few miffed because when people actually are willing to voice a dissenting opinion, to seemingly natural debate/conversation, anger ensues. Interesting, that you want to claim "twas just joking guys" after the fact.

You'd never know it can be fun if you never look at the funny caption thread and only look at this or the main GP threads. People get so hung up on anything. I'm with ya, it can be fun and personally I don't get too invested in it to be upset by anything.

Funny you should mention that. I tried that in the French GP thread regarding track limits, got told my views were “odd”, no one cares, and I was flat out wrong. One users got so angry by my posts I was told to stop posting, or post “useful things”.

Who is angry here?? Certainly not I. Perhaps you?

Jim’s first response to me was a one word response....not much natural debate/conversation there.

You’re first response to me accused me of “not following the sport”, and then signed off with an exhasperated, “why can’t you just agree??” :’(

I thought it’d be fun to talk about who could maybe take lewis’s seat if he does leave, small as the chances may be. But that was too silly for you and Jim, and you guys seem kind of angry I brought it up, so I’ll let it go.

Edit: and just to clarify, the only funny threads in the motorsport section are the ones that have nothing directly to do with F1 (memes and wtf being the exception).

I would ask who is upset? I only see one person upset because others attempted to explain why his perspective is far fetched and the "evidence" provided is lacking. If that is an issue I'd question why those people dare share a view point on a very argumentative subject.

Anyways I'm sure it will be goofy on it's own as I said.

Never said you didn't follow the sport, I said IF, as in for someone who follows the sport you'll see this isn't unusual for Hamilton and so much so it's been a theme of his life off the track. I further say why not just let it go until stronger evidence presents itself that counters all the evidence that suggest Hamilton isn't leaving. I earlier commented on another speculative comment you made with no issues, so not sure why you've extrapolated them from this one.

As for being angry, I'm pretty sure I've said I wasn't but if not, I'd ask what suggest that from a conversation.

I think Nico should be more worried in that case. Sainz is easily on par, if not regularly beating, Nico.

With how much controversy every GP brings up, we might as well make a new topic just for general F1 discussion since it usually ends up not having to do with that specific GP anyway, and we continue discussing in the days and weeks after said GPs. Maybe call it "The Formula 1 Epic Crying and Whining Thread" like we have for the racing games.

Or maybe, just a "track limits" thread :P

Many of us proposed that idea years ago, it didn’t fly. F1 is too complicated for just one thread :P

Ericsson has said it was driver error that caused his crash at Abby during the British GP

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/ericsson-admits-finger-trouble-to-blame-for-crash-1058030/

With the pace that both Haas and Sauber Alfa Romeo have shown this year, I would think they must be among the most coveted seats for next year, outside the big 3 teams. Assuming Ericsson and Grosjean are both dropped by their respective teams (which I think at this point is inevitable), who are the prime candidates for their seats?

Could we see Kimi in a Sauber Alfa? I could see it, if Leclerc goes to Ferrari, and Kimi feels like he wants to stick around. It would be kind of cool to see Kimi finish his career in a Sauber, just like he started.

I’m going to kind of assume that one of the Sauber seats will go to a Ferrari young driver, someone like Giovinazzi, or Fuoco. Kyvat probably has name in that hat too. If Kimi is replaced and retires, I could see Kvyat and a Ferrari rookie at Sauber.

As for Haas, who goes alongside KMag. I think one name near the top of that list is Perez. He’s had his eye on a Ferrari seat for a while, and I’ve heard rumors he wants out of Force India. I could also see him in a Sauber.

I guess a lot still depends on the big names signing their deals, like Lewis, Dan, Alonso, Bottas, then the midfield will fall into place. I’m really intreagued by who gets the Haas and Sauber seats though, as I think those two teams are in a spot to pick up random podiums when the big teams stumble, and I think both Grosjean and Ericsson are taking up space that could be occupied by much better drivers.

When you think Ericssons seat is in danger because of his performance lololol.

If it was the case he wouldn't of survived his rookie season.

At least he's consistent with his claims of who he thinks is on the outs. He seems to only be saying Grosjean due to the rough year he's having. And as you said about Marcus, he's been there since 2014 and not been at threat for removal so why would he post 2018? You put it best, it's funny to think he may be when he isn't.

As for replacements, I find it interesting that @twitcher only thinkspeople who have seats currently are viable to take over. Which makes me wonder how much he follows the other F1 aspects like feeder series, if at all.

Wow, again just trying to have friendly discussion, and the typical response is, “huhuhuhu, look how stoopid he is”.

With prize money from finishing not last, and increased support from Ferrari, do Sauber still need Ericsson’s money (btw I’m completely aware of why he has his seat).

As for replacements, I mentioned Giovinazzi, Kvyat, and Fuoco, all of whom are either Ferrari young drivers, or in Kvyat’s case a Ferrari reserve driver. The fact I specifically mentioned those 3, who do not currently have seats in F1, yet @LMSCorvetteGT2 seems to think I only mentioned current F1 drivers therefor implying I don’t watch the feeder series and therefor have no idea what I’m talking about....makes me wonder a) how well he can really read and b) why does he always post like he has a stick up his ass?

Edit: in case you hadn’t noticed, I was the one who created the junior formula thread, and I was the most recent one to post in that thread....doesn’t watch the junior formula, please

And again you're getting butt hurt when people are simply trying to understand to what depth you make these predictions, or counter with why it's unlikely in repetitive fashion from last time the prediction came up. Sauber don't have a choice, as I've said before the people that back Ericsson own the team, so unless Longbow is willing to sell and someone is willing to offer, his seat is quite safe. And with the supposed threat that Ferrari may indeed pull the trigger on moving Leclerc up after this season, Ericcson seat is even more secure.

Kvyat is a former F1 driver, Gioinazzi has driven in the sport and is a reserve/test driver. Thus they technically are in the running one could say because of their reserve status. Fuoco has been in the lower formula for some time and been inconsistent almost every season, and last test drove an F1 car in 2015. If there was actually any interest to move him up, they'd have done so instead of snatching up Giovanazzi last minute.

Funny I'm not the only one telling you you're wrong or laughing at your claims, yet I'm the one with the stick up my backside...

if you don't like how I tell you things put me on ignore, most of what I saw from your post was current drivers with seats as either racers or reserve/dev drivers. Nothing other than Fuoco who has been an academy driver since 2014 (sorry I missed the one feeder name you used), shows me you watch the feeder series with much intent. If you do then good for you.

They weren’t claims, they were questions, discussion points.

If there’s some driver in junior formula who you think could potentially end up in a Sauber or Haas next year, then suggest the name instead of trying to imply I’m woefully under informed. That would be the way normal people would go about having a discussion.
