I was more interested in the 11 almost complete B1Bs!!

Yeah, I noted those too, but I didn't have time to come back and post it. That's a lot of tax dollars parked in the dirt, right there.

MSN Live Map shows the planes alot better. Except you can't zoom out at all, so you'll have to use it in conjunction with Google to look at what you really want.
I've got MS Virtual Earth installed on my computer. I suppose that it works somewhat different from the website. You can zoom out to see a larger general area, and then use the Bird's Eye view feature to zoom in. I just 'took' this Bird's Eye View of several airplanes on the site. My brother-in-law was the Commander of an A-10 Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base about 15 years ago. He eventually retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Colonel.

I found this image of the centre of the Milky Way, taken in Infra Red light...

This is my favourite image from the book "Cosmos"

Captures the essence of just how many stars there are in our galaxy...

Click here for image (approx 5 MB)

And the full size image (Caution: 24 MB)

Spectacular image, and thanks for also posting a link to the original 22 megapixel image! (4100×5300)

Now if only they could label our location and the nearest restrooms.

Gah, even the "small" version was over 2 MB, so I've taken it down and replaced it with a link... I've made a 1280 x 900 pix version for my wallpaper...

Well, apparently there is a "bar" at the centre, so I'll see you in there... mine's a pint 👍

Eep... the files are much bigger than their own website stated, but I didn't notice when I posted them because I was at work, and I have an uber-fast connection there! Have amended the post!

The art of Jim Denevan:

More photos, info and bio here.

Truly amazing and beautiful... however it says the following on that site:

Jim Denevan makes freehand drawings in sand. At low tide on wide beaches Jim searches the shore for a wave tossed stick. After finding a good stick and composing himself in the near and far environment Jim draws-- laboring up to 7 hours and walking as many as 30 miles. The resulting sand drawing is made entirely freehand w/ no measuring aids whatsoever. From the ground, these drawn environments are experienced as places. Places to explore and be, and to see relation and distance. For a time these tangible specific places exist in the indeterminate environment of ocean shore. From high above the marks are seen as isolated phenomena, much like clouds, rivers or buildings. Soon after Jim's motions and marks are completed water moves over and through, leaving nothing.

I call shenanigans! No way were all of those sand drawings done with nothing but driftwood and no measuring aids... sorry, not buying it. I suspect he is using a handy walking GPS device with specific waypoints.... which even it itself is still a remarkable feat, and great imagination. 👍

Actually because it says he composes himself in the near and far environments, I am guessing that means that he stands where he wants the perspective to be from and likely makes small mental landmark notes or even as simple as having someone lay some driftwood or shells where he would use GPS waypoints as visual markers.

Sticks and stones are not measuring devices, but make great waypoint markers. That or from his perspective angle he uses binoculars to find "landmarks" in the sand to use as his waypoints. It is quite possible for him to do it old school, but I have a feeling that composing himself beforehand means a lot more than just standing on a cliff and envisioning the end result.

both posts (the sand stuff and street art) are really cool. I wish I was that good. :(

Beetle Genitals (please note, this gallery contains images that are NSFW if you are a member of the species C. maculatus)...

Arguably the most disturbing picture of Beetle genitals since the cover of John Lennon's "Two Virgins" album :nervous:
and possibly the best argument against Intelligent Design I have found thus far. :ill:

All I can say to that is that if I were a beetle, and not the kind from Liverpool, I would proudly wear a purity ring to the day I die. :D
