Those super collider pictures are lacking in Gordon Freeman goodness.

Check out these shots. They're called Gigapan, which is a robotic mount that takes a huge range of shots with any camera and stitched them into one ginormous shot. Here's a couple:

Most popular ones:

If you like those you might enjoy the following thread as it has both gigapan and even multi-gigapixel images from single photographs and not stitched ones, although both techniques are quite impressive:

Are circular neighborhoods very resourceful? It just seems like you could get better use out of square grid patterns.

All of those are very cool. I'll take one of those houses in the roundy water neighborhood.

In other news...

The TVCC building (Mandarin Oriental) in beijing is no more. Fireworks are to blame

Reminds me of the puzzle "Get the red car out of the car park" by moving various vehicles around.

My kids love that game. They also love a similar puzzle game called TipOver:

I prefer TipOver as it has more complex variables, but they are both really good puzzle games and are a great way to introduce kids to problem solving puzzles, and some of the advanced cards can be very challenging even for experienced puzzle solvers, and it's also relatively easy to make your own puzzle cards for others to try and solve. đź‘Ť

Wow, Tomcats, Phantoms and even Fa-18 hornets already in the junkyard. Thats pretty cool!!

or sad... :(

Not to mention the reality check that the amount of money spent on all those planes far exceeds our national debt. :nervous:

BTW: I love seeing satellite shots of A-10's.... such distinctive aircraft... and of course that awesomely huge C-5 Galaxy.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who finds these huge engineering-graveyards a sad sight, D-N. So many feats of engineering left to rot and disintegrate, so many interesting aircraft removed from the public.

They're machines. Like all machines they have a certain operating life after which they become scrap. You could argue that because a huge proportion of these aircraft are stored and slowly dismantled in the same, well publicised location, they are infact still in the public's eye.

Man, there is some interesting old stuff sitting around there. Who knew there were that many P-80s left in the world? Of course, they are carcasses by now, but still.

MSN Live Map shows the planes alot better. Except you can't zoom out at all, so you'll have to use it in conjunction with Google to look at what you really want.

This area here seems to be a collection of different planes, perhaps saved from the scrap heap?

*Edit* Maybe we should start a thread about this place, it seems there's a lot of people that don't know about and before too long we'll be off-topic in here. Somebody can go ahead if they want.

I saw this image that Keef posted in CF's recent Funny Pic thread:

It reminded me of a story I read about a few months ago about the female trainers that swim with young tigers... and while looking for it, I ran into this shot...

And here is what I was looking for:

There are other shots that can be found here.

Surely wearing a leopard-print bikini while trying to drag a large cat underwater is just asking for it?

I see two women, one tiger and a camel's toe.
