The US trucks are a nice change , but the long nose rigs can be challenging to drive around the tight roads in Europe ! I had a recent delivery somewhere in the Poland rebuilding map , with the Kenworth T800 pictured above and it was almost impossible to park the trailer , the delivery space was so tight to fit into. I did get there eventually ........ there may have been a couple of scratches on the front bumper :nervous: haha.
I think once ATS comes out , I will spend most of my time there. I grew up watching "Movin on" and "BJ and the bear" on TV , not to mention "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Duel" at the movies. American trucks are more familiar to me and in Australia there are just as many long nose rigs on the highways , as cabovers. ATS will be a little closer to an Australian truck sim for me , I think I'll be very happy there :D
PS: Nothing beats the sound of a Detroit diesel 👍

I have considered getting an American style truck mod for a few months now but never got round to it. Does it enhance the game at all or should I just wait for the new American Truck Simulator when it comes out. Larger roads probably help.

In all honesty, wait till ATS. My own shipment of that tanker was fun jsut to get out for goodness sakes. I kept it in 1st and crawled my way out. I also had a uber narrow on ramp to go thru as well. Oy. With the Peterbilt, I do love the Jake Brake. Its loud alright. Too bad European Trucks were loud too.

Spinner you forgot Convoy! Everyday when I got home from school I'd religiously watch BJ and the Bear and the Lobo show and still to this day it's all about fast food fast women and fast trucks:lol:

Can someone point me to a well constructed map with step long grades and descents? I'm currently in the habit of taking low hp trucks and putting them through their paces and I'm not finding much of a challenge with the mostly hilly roads in the original game map.

I only have the demo anyway so I'm not too fussed with getting a wheel, But thanks anyway :)
To be honest I'm kind of banking on ATS being better with a DS3 PS3 controller than ETS is as I just can't get it all out anymore and set it up to play for 30 minutes but with my laptop on my lap and the controller in I can play half decent.

Promods has some good ones although they are few and far between. The authors have gone to the effort of creating more elevation changes than the standard map , there is a good climb between Antwerpen and Liege for example. That said , it's not a map specifically designed to be challenging or difficult , but it is top quality for a freebie. I havent tried any of the "tricky or extreme" maps that are out there.

I'll get the Promods map this weekend. Thanks!
I'm so looking forward to climbing the grape vine once ATS is released. Hopefully it'll be implemented well.

Does Euro truck sim 2 require 6GB - 8GB of VRAM or less? Have in mind my next purchase and don't know whether to go for one 980 gpu PC, titan x or 980 sli. The 980 card in the alienware machines is only 4GB but I know that 6GB 980 cards exist. Not sure if sli works very well or is compatible with most games including ETS2?? Could my current spec play ETS2 ok?

I have 8GB DDR3 Ram, and have a Nvidia GTX650 TiBoost. ETS2 runs great on it. My only issue is in the beginning when mods are loading and the system hiccups for a few moments other than that you should be fine.

This is from the SCS forum itself:
Quote:
Minimum System Requirements

Windows XP/Vista/7/8, Dual core CPU 2.4 GHz
2 GB RAM, graphics card with 256 MB memory
(GeForce 7600 GT-class equivalent or better)

Recommended System Requirements

Windows 7/8, Dual core CPU 3.0 GHz
4 GB RAM, graphics card with 1024 MB memory
(GeForce GTS 450-class equivalent or better)

I don't know how much VRAM ETS2 actually needs, the more the better I guess. My GTX 770's "only" got 2 GB of it, and I don't have any issues running on ultra - apart from some single cities being very detailed resulting in me going down to 35-40 FPS from 60+, and of course when visiting a city with a lot of people in MP. My laptop ran ETS very well with just 1GB of VRAM, so I think even 1GB should be sufficient. 👍 As for normal RAM, as @yzfmike said, 4 GB+ is the recommenation.

Now, I'm no computer expert, but I'll promise you that a single 980 will be sufficient to run this game on ultra, at 1080p with 60+ FPS, as I can do that with my small 770. :dopey:

I haven't tried it personally, but I've heard that ETS should work well with nVidia cards in SLI, I'm not really sure about AMD cards in SLI though. :)

Could my current spec play ETS2 ok?
On ultra? Most likely not with good FPS, but you should be able to run it smoothly on a high setting. 👍

I was driving around on Iceland, and it was getting dark. I turned on my lights, but I didn't realize that I had my rooflights on as well...

That is indeed a mountain quite a bit away. It seems I could light up the entire island if I needed to.

I see thanks for the replies guys. My alienware M17X R2 runs farming sim at 1920x1200 at medium settings. My laptop has windows 7 ultimate, 4GB DDR3, 1.6Ghz Quad Core I7 but its only 1.6GHz not the minimum of 3.GHz, should I be worried. Other then that my laptops graphics is a 1024MB VRAM Mobility Radeon is a HD5870.So does everyone reckon I can run the game ok?

I think the Alienware machine will run it ok at medium settings but that's purely a guess.
Best bet is wait until ETS2 is on sale and try it. Worst case , you've blown $5

Do everything you can to improve PC performance as well. Run Ccleaner, disc defrag, remove past system restore points. Remove unwanted/bloatware programs. Disable useless windows services such as search (If you have a dedicated drive for everything). Squeeze out the performance and it will do good. I have Win 7 Premium and I run classic windows theme, no windows sounds, windows index is off and disabled search is off. Media sharing service is off as well (I use PS3 media server). I have everything disabled that I can, before I start to cause issues.

Ok cool. Should i be worried about cccleaner deleting things it shouldn't? Some people heve said to be cautious about programs like it in the past, because they require you to have a bit of understand on what your deleting could cause windows problems. Thanks for the advice i'll switch off those services you said, I don't know what other services I should disable though. But I know the ones you mentioned are still active on my system.

CCleaner was bad in the beginning of itself on PC's. They have fixed it up well. I run a clean and tight ship per'se. If you are the same with your PC you should be fine. I run it and it works with out issue. I use it to clean registry edits and get rid of junk. I don't use the drive wiper or anything like that.

The newest update, 1.20, is now available for beta download. 👍

ETS2 Update 1.20 Open Beta

We are happy to announce that open beta of 1.20 Update of Euro Truck Simulator 2 is now available on Steam.

There are a ton of minor improvements and fixes included as usual, you can see them listed in the change log at the bottom of the blog post, but let us elaborate on three major features that we would like to bring to your attention:

1. GPS ROUTE CUSTOMIZATION

From now on you will be able to customize the route set by the Route Advisor, or create your own route at will if no job had been taken. Route configuration is performed on the map screen. You can modify the existing route by
  • adding up to 10 custom waypoints;
  • inserting waypoints into existing route;
  • interactively moving waypoints;
  • or adding waypoints at end of a route.
We hope that you will appreciate the flexibility and simplicity of the system, as you can really now create any route you desire.

2. GEOGRAPHICALLY CORRECT SUN POSITION

We have received plenty of feedback from our fans in Scandinavia territories that we have the same daylight and night periods in the game as in southern Europe. Well, not any more!

To address the problem, we have written new code that positions the sun at the exact astronomically correct place in the sky as you would expect for the given geographical location at the particular time of day. In fact the definitions driving the whole system allow now to set up any location on the globe if anyone would so desire. The new system produces quite different feel of the day cycle depending on whether you are in the north or closer to the equatorial. The sun is higher on the sky at noon in the south than we had it hard-coded before - with appropriately quicker sunrise and sundown - while in the north the sun is correctly following a lower curve in the sky with prolonged evenings and mornings; lingering low at the horizon. We had to adjust our weather profiles and sky textures to correspond to physical sun location (mod makers beware!).

3. IMAGE SPOTLIGHT

We see so many fantastic community-created screenshots on World of Trucks website uploaded every day, with inspiring content that is leaving us speechless. We felt that these images are so cool that more people should see them, not just regular visitors of the site.

We are introducing a new feature - "Image Spotlight." Hand-picked selection of images from World of Trucks will now be made available to the game as additional loading splash-screens. The first batch is there now, we plan to update and refresh the selection from time to time with newly coming images. You can browse the current selection inside the Image Spotlight screen, accessible from the Photo Studio screen, if you want to drill deeper and see the original image in full detail.

For this feature to work, you will have to enable it at the game start. We did not want to unleash it at everyone automatically, as the images are downloaded from our server (however just once), and not everybody is comfortable with applications accessing network without their consent.

In general, the images had been and will be picked from Editor's Pick from World of Trucks, but that's not necessary a must for the selection in the future. Although there's a huge amount of quality images there, not all of them can go into Image Spotlight for various reasons. For example we have to avoid featuring real brands in the game for which we do not have an explicit licence signed. Also, sometimes even a gorgeous image didn't fit into the aspect of the loading screen for proper composition needs.

The code is set to randomly choose between loading screens of the original game and Image Spotlight images. We hope that you will enjoy this little feature as much as we enjoy seeing user created images in the loading screens ourselves.

XP Support?!?!?!?!?!? Wow whatta feature:D

Looks like a great update , especially the waypoint feature , but I'm really happy with where my game is right now. A good combination of mods all working well together. I think I'll have to lock into 1.19 until my "essential" mods get updated. :D

I do not have any map mods. Out off all the mods I have only one did not make it to 1.20. It was a reworked version of the original Volvo FH16 2013. Other than that all of them work.

Side note, with 1.20 I have seen a nice increase in traffic. With the Scandinavian DLC it was very empty in the daylight. Now it has traffic. Anyone make it to northern Sweden? Tunnels and tunnles.

Haha ! Are the tractors standard AI traffic or a mod ?

I've updated Promods and Poland maps, deleted Rusmap for now and moved to 1.20 beta. All my other mods are working including an AI traffic density mod. It's very busy in the towns now !
I love driving around Norway and northern Sweden , amazing scenery and the game runs super smooth up there. Since 1.20 , the days are very long in those areas too. Dusk continues right up until midnight !

The waypoint feature works OK but I have found that on areas modified by Promods (German autobahns for instance) the GPS can have difficulty creating routes. I'm sure the Promods team will sort this out for v2.0.

Having fun with a 55t load and the Argosy :)

@spinner It is this little gem: http://ets2.lt/en/israeli-bulldozer-ai/

I am able to still use the original traffic mod I shared like 20 pages back. LOL. My apologies, It is Noway with the loop de loop tunnel all the way at the top of the map.

Oh and driving the Peterbilt 351 with a 55 ton locomotive is pure insanity and hilarity. At the time I had the 550 engine, not the 600HP engine. I could not go faster than 35 MPH or the front would lift enough that steering was pointless anywhere. I had an uphill climb to complete with sharp turns. Talk about wall riding on 3rd gear. :D:D:D

This mod is nice as well: http://ets2mods.org/tuning/new-space-beacon-mod

Works since 1.18 without issue. The flashing is apparently just in the front not the back. I don't care. Love the look of it.

Is it possible to play the game with an xbox one controller? or too many controls need a keyboard or special wheel / pedals etc... I currently only have a Xbox one controller connected to my laptop. I couldn't get my DS3 to work with my laptop at all.

My OLD desktop PC.

Well it is still Windows XP Pro  seriously, Asus Striker II Extreme Nvidia 790i chipset motherboard, 4GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator 1600MHz RAM, Q6600 Quad Core LGA775 Intel Core 2 runs at 3.0GHz default, BFG 280 GTX OC, Thermaltake 1200Watt ATX 2.2 or 2.3. The PC never gets used anymore only the motherboard needs a new battery as everytime I switch it on CMOS reset, otherwise I could use that machine. Not sure how cheap I can upgrade to a decent motherboard, gpu, cpu + Windows 7. ALl my kit is inside a Lian Li G 70 case. A modded version of this case. It has aerocool extreme turbine fans, 120mm on rear for cpu, 140mm on top, 140mm on front for HDD, and large 250mm fan with side panel window on the left side. My hard disk drives are older Western Digital 10000rpm raptor 150GB 300MBs Raid 0. Like my PC is well old now. I need to modernise it as much as possible but I have a super low budget and £500.00 tops or less is my budget. Also my motherboards gpu PCIExpress slots are version 2.0 I don't know what version PCIExpress the modern gpu's are and if they would fit in. I know that my PCIExpress are full 16x lanes.

I'm currently using my DS3 to play and I haven't had any problems. There may be one or two buttons that I use my keyboard for but other than that, it's smooth sailing with just a controller.
