I think you misunderstood my original post on this comparison. I never meant to imply the entire starting 5 were benched. I meant individuals from the starting 5. There have certainly been instances where a member of the starting 5 was benched within the first 15 games of a season.

Well yeah that has happened plenty but it's usually the case of personal attitude off the playing field that is the issue, in this case we've been given various stories as to why both drivers were switched. None of which seems to do with what happens in their personal life. The rate at which you claim is my issue, I never denied there weren't people replaced but most times it's after the season folds, unless as I said they do something stupid personally to get axed.

I nearly posted that in the funny news stories thread yesterday afternoon! I've never really rated him as a driver really so I don't know whether I'm hoping or genuinely expecting him to be beaten by the fresh talent coming through...

Wow, when was the last time a former F1 driver went back to F3? Closest thing I can think of in recent times is Giorgio Pantano joining GP2 after his Jordan F1 stint.

Karthikeyan went to (gulp) A1GP, I think a few other ex-F1-drivers did too.

Didn't one of the Manor drivers race in GP2 at the Redbull Ring last year, and caused a massive accident at the checkered flag by trying to stop in his grid spot for the next race?

Ah yes I think that was Roberto Mehri in FR3.5, forgot about him. That's an even more special case of someone who was running both an F1 and F1-feeder-series campaign at the same time!

Just thought of this....since Michael and Ralf, when was the last time two brothers competed in the same open wheel race?

@Famine's not the only one with a headache, the teams (with Pirelli) have had to sort out who gets whose tyre picks. Verstappen will now take Kvyat's and vice-versa

Can you explain? It's for... my ignorant friend who doesn't keep up to date with all the rules. :dopey:

Both Justin Wilson, and his younger brother Stefan, competed in the IndyCar race at Baltimore, in 2013. That's the most recent example that I'm aware of personally, but there could be a later one.

Any open wheel series?

I'm pretty sure both Roope and Rasmus Markkanen are driving in F4 NEZ Championship, and I doubt it's that uncommon in other open-wheel series below the F1.

Indeed they are. Rasmus and Roope race the 64, and 65 cars respectively! 👍

Well hang on, the next Euro F3 round will have Pedro and Nelsinho Piquet in it, for different teams!

Now that I really think about it, isn't there a pair of brothers who race in the Toyota Racing Series? Leech, or Leach? Think one is named Brandon.

A curious observation from Barcelona FP1 - Red Bull feel that Pierre Gasly is on the verge of being ready for Formula One. It's unusual because Gasly hasn't actually won anything in two years, and is probably best-known for making an absolute mess of the Abu Dhabi GP2 race at the end of last year.

There going to make anyone in the program at this point sound good to set up for the Kvyat drop. If he was that good he wouldn't have been over looked for the current two drivers that (well not anymore I guess) that started at TR this year. And last year for that matter.

I seriously hope Kvyat gets picked up by an F1 team if Red Bull drop him completely. Haas, please replace Esteban with Dany if you get the chance.

I'd prefer them to replace GUT with Vergne

Well if SMP actually makes the move to F1 in a few years, they'll probably want a Russian driver... He's got another decade in him so if they make the jump we could see him there.

Pigs will fly before Vergne gets a Ferrari seat, a Ferrari powered seat on the other hand maybe but even that would be a low chance at this point.

I have heard some speculation that if Sainz outperforms Kyvat Redbull might pave the way for Ricciardo to go to Ferrari and Sainz to take his seat.

However I see this as extremely unlikely unless Ricciardo gets outperformed by Verstappen which I don't see happening this year atleast, and I don't see Redbull wanting to release Ricciardo regardless.

I'm not so sure about that - Red Bull have been trying to present the move as being good for Kvyat because it takes pressure off him. If they just go through the motions of supporting him, it will do serious damage to their reputation.

Toro Rosso are still running their drivers on a two-year cycle. Gasly definitely wasn't ready when the vacancies filled by Sainz and Verstappen came up.

Haas, please replace Esteban with Dany if you get the chance.
I wouldn't be surprised if that happens. I also think that replacing Hülkenberg would be a viable option, since Hülkenberg's heart isn't in it.

There's a reason why Red Bull promoted Kvyat over Vergne in the first place.

They'd likely take Sergey Sirotkin (who is no slouch). Of course, they could always take two Russian drivers. But there's bigger problems that need to be resolved - SMP Racing is backed by the SMP Bank, and their close association with Vladimir Putin means that they're still subject to UN sanctions over the Ukraine and Crimea. Their ability to get involved in the sport is hazy at best.

If Bernie's able to cozy up to Putin, I wouldn't put it past the latter to pump money into SMP Racing for the greater glory of Russia.
