The FIFA Bribe Scandal...

I mean, let's not forget about Qatar though. It's abominable.
You're right, we mustn't forget the spark that caused the investigation in the first place. I just noticed that for the last page and a half or so, but with Blatter and other FIFA officials brushing this off as no big deal, it just appears that they can just simply throw money at the problem and make it go away, which in large part the topic of discussion among the media did change from why did Qatar win the World Cup to why is Blatter and other top FIFA officials paying so much money to make this quiet. This time, they just so happen to have run afowl of US law doing so.

FIFA sponsors Coca-Cola and McDonald's are sick and tired of all the corruption scandals circling around FIFA and Blatter and are now stating that Blatter needs to step down immediately.

Blatter, of course, has said in a statement released by his attorneys that he stays where he is.

....

Edit.

Add Visa and Budweiser to the list.

So why don't Coca-Cola and McDonald's and VISA and Anheuser-Busch withdraw? We all know that money unfortunately rules the world so if the stream of commercial money dried up, maybe we'd start getting somewhere.

Yep, Coca-Cola funds commercial activities of a sporting body which is engaged in various bribe scandals.
Yep, McDonald's funds commercial activities of a sporting body which awards the World Cup to a country which will employ slave labour to build its non-existent stadiums.
Yep, VISA funds commercial activities of a sporting body which has done this since at least the 1970s.

So do something about it.

*It's doubly funny in VISA's case because most of the gift-purchasing bribery is probably done via VISA cards.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has been provisionally suspended for 90 days.

Members of Fifa's ethics committee met this week after the Swiss attorney general opened criminal proceedings against Blatter, 79, last month.

He is accused of signing a contract "unfavourable" to football's governing body and making a "disloyal payment" to Uefa president Michel Platini, 60.

Swiss Blatter, who has run Fifa since 1998, and Platini, who wants to succeed him, deny any wrongdoing.

A final decision is likely to be made on Thursday by Hans Joachim Eckhert, the head of Fifa's ethics adjudicatory chamber.

Blatter's adviser Klauss Stohlker told BBC Sport: "The news was communicated to the president this afternoon. He is calm. Remember he is the father of the ethics committee.

"This is provisional for 90 days but he is not actually suspended. The committee has not yet made a decision and their meetings continue."

On Wednesday, Blatter told a German magazinethat he was being "condemned without there being any evidence for wrongdoing".

The little weasel is done

Apart from FIFA now (maybe) hammering down on Blattert, they can't do this and then take on Platini as the new chief. His reputation already has been tarnished with the dubious payments, and now he's stating that whatever happened between them will stay indoors.

Secretary General Jerome Valcke received the same sentence as Blatty and Platty, Presidential candidate Chung Mong-joon has been suspended for 6 years and is ordered to pay 100000 Swiss Franks.

I wonder if the complaints of the sponsors have anything to do with it.

Who would like to see breakaway federations or who thinks that it might happen?

Part of me sees FIFA's position as the world football association (and position on the IFAB to change the laws of the game) as untenable. Even if they cleared out the senior officials and got a fresh generation of candidates in like Figo, I cannot see their reputation as anything but ruined. However, if nothing is done they will continue to dictate us towards the 2018 and 2022 World Cups and all will be swept under the rug.

I would love to see it, but seeing that countries like France still support Platini, and that France was pretty much the driving force behind the Qatar bid I doubt that anything will happen.

The FIFA has a disease and doesn't visit the doctor to see if there are any other options.

Edit.

Blatter is still not thinking about leaving. And Platini says that the FIFA are out to get him and tarnish his good name. He also received the votes for him to run for President. just half an hour before he received his suspension.

Isn't suspending those three like throwing an eggcup of water at a raging, out of control fire?!

A sacking and ban from football related activities if proven guilty is simply the only real punishment they can do. Otherwise FIFA will never get back a good name.

Both the FIFA and UEFA did not know anything about the payment made by Blatter to Platini.

I can't see Platini weasel himself out of this one.

News is pouring in that the 2006 WC in Germany has been bought. Beckenbauer, chef of the organisation committee was apparently aware of the bribe funds.

And a shocking edit.

The FIFA was in on it too.

And of course everybody is sooooo shocked about it. If the WC before that were allegedly bought and the ones after that, I personally find it hard to believe that our WC wasn't bought as well.

I was just waiting for this to surface.

Blatty and Platty are facing a 5 year suspension.

👍

Just a five year? It should be like what Adam Silver did to Donald Sterling:

Salman al-Khalifa dismisses Bahranian human rights criticism as 'nasty lies'.

Just the sort of person you want heading a global sports body.

Blatter outright admits that the decision to give the WC to Russia was predetermined before voting.

It was agreed that we go to Russia because it's never been in Russia, eastern Europe, and for 2022 we go back to America.

Even conceding that the fixed 2022 WC was supposed to go to the States before Qatar seemingly offered more slush funds and kickbacks.

Our government is going to look into the case of the money lost on the 2018 bid, from which Blatty claimed it was rigged from the beginning.

The FA is now also looking into getting their money back.
