The FIFA Bribe Scandal...

One can hope, but with a bit of logical thinking you just know nothing will really change.

New FIFA Now organised a debate in Brussels for the candidates of the upcoming election, and only Jerome Champagne showed up.

This has pissed off several members of the European Parlement. By staying away they showed a lack of integrity towards football fans all over the world, according to Belgian member Ivo Belet.

Debates organised by the BBC and ESPN were also cancelled due to lack of interest from the candidates.

Good job.

Somebody has possible delivered incriminating evidence against Blatty at the Swiss prosecution.

Little is known for now, but it's interesting and relevant information, according to a member of the Swiss authorities.

Yeah, really shows how much they care about changing the sport and addressing its global audience.

They were probably too busy buying new motors for their paper shredders.

Good. The sooner that gnome is gone the better. But you know he'll avoid a gaol sentence. "He's too old" like that crook Havelange. So... what, the decades of corruption is swept under the carpet and accepted simply as something that happened? Rubbish.

If only.

The adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee chaired by Mr Hans Joachim Eckert has banned Mr Jérôme Valcke, former Secretary General of FIFA, for 12 years from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) on a national and international level. The ban comes into force immediately.

The investigation against Mr Valcke was conducted by Dr Cornel Borbély, chairman of the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee, following allegations of potential misconduct related to the sale of tickets for FIFA World Cups™. During the course of the investigations, several other acts of potential misconduct arose, in particular abuse of the FIFA travel expenses policies and regulations, cases involving related-parties issues and the sale of TV and other media rights, and the destruction of evidence.

The investigation resulted in a final report that was submitted to the adjudicatory chamber on 5 January 2016. Adjudicatory proceedings were formally opened on 7 January 2016.

Amongst other things, the adjudicatory chamber found that a sports marketing firm had gained an undue advantage from the selling of FIFA World Cup™ tickets. In this respect, not only did Mr Valcke do nothing to stop these activities, he even encouraged the persons responsible to do so. Furthermore, Mr Valcke repeatedly encouraged them to breach an agreement concluded between FIFA and the sports marketing firm.

Moreover, by travelling at FIFA’s expense purely for sightseeing reasons as well as repeatedly choosing private flights for his trips over commercial flights without any business rationale for doing so, Mr Valcke, gained an advantage for himself and relatives. In doing so, Mr Valcke acted against FIFA’s best interests and caused considerable financial damage to FIFA, while his private and personal interests detracted him from his ability to properly perform his duties as the Secretary General of FIFA.

Concerning the issue of TV and media rights for the Caribbean, it was found that Mr Valcke attempted to grant the TV and media rights for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups™ to a third party for a fee far below their actual market value and had taken concrete preparatory action in this regard.
Furthermore, it was found that Mr Valcke deliberately tried to obstruct the ongoing proceedings against him by attempting to delete or deleting several files and folders relevant to the investigation, despite being aware of his duty to preserve all data and to collaborate in order to establish the facts of the case.

In summary, the conduct of Mr Valcke as Secretary General of FIFA constituted a violation of article 13 (General rules of conduct), article 15 (Loyalty), article 16 (Confidentiality), article 18 (Duty of disclosure, cooperation and reporting), article 19 (Conflicts of interest), article 20 (Offering and accepting gifts and other benefits) and article 41 (Obligation of the parties to collaborate) of the FIFA Code of Ethics (FCE).

In consequence, Mr Valcke has been banned for 12 years from all football related activities and fined CHF 100,000.

And in other news, some of the candidates (Sheik Salman to begin with) for the coming election are sensing that they might not win it and call for a behind the doors meeting about who should be president of FIFA. Salman wants to cut a deal with Infantino, so that he becomes dictator President and Infantino becomes Secretary General.

Transparent FIFA. Not now it seems.

Infantino (the 'good guy') just about higher than Salman (the bad guy) after the first round. 88-85

This is very good news and I'm pretty sure that the people who voted for Prince Ali in third are people with the best interests of football in mind.

It looks like FIFA will have a good leader, still a long road though.

I hope "not accepting kickbacks, slushfunds and bribes" is part of FIFA's new rules. Didn't see that mentioned anywhere yet...

If it's Al-Khalifa who wins, FIFA might as well just cease to exist. He already showed that he isn't trustworthy.

Edit.

Second round is underway. Ali and Champagne both decided to stay in the race. 104 votes is now enough for the title of Dictator.

What do we know about Infantino? I tried googling and not found much outside of the Greek government getting involved and him putting his foot in to stop them.

He's the guy who usually does the Champions and Europa League draws, elected because he isn't corrupt pretty much. Wants to focus on football rather than politics.

Not sure how much he'll be able to do for FIFA but definitely the right choice in my opinion.

Infantino today confirmed that the next two World Cups will remain in Russia and Qatar.

Infantino's name is popping up in the Panama papers, having signed a dubious contract during his time as UEFA pres.

He reportedly sold television rights to 2 business men who also were involved with FIFA's bribe scandal.

As if people thought any of this was going to change. Good lord.

Beeb

Platini will be forced to step down from UEFA after failing to get his six-year ban overturned. However, although the ban itself wasn't overturned, it has been reduced from four years to six.

FIFA, UEFA, it doesn't matter who runs them. They're bent. They're dodgy. They're corrupt. But... they're getting away with it. The national FAs ought to do something else other than lick arse and blow smoke.

Yeah! They should all follow the Dutch and not compete in the EC this summer!

Yeah! They should all follow the Dutch and not compete in the EC this summer!

You know what though, that's really part of the problem though. Try telling the Welsh, the Icelanders and the Albanians that they should boycott this tournament. There's no way you'd be able to convince a noteworthy amount of people to stay away. Of all the times for us to qualify for a tournament, it has to be amidst the unravelling of huge corruption up and down football. In fact, as I type this very sentence I am waiting on the announcement of our initial squad.

The thing about football is that it is so popular and it is so influential in people's lives that you will never be able to convince enough people to stay away. Empty stadiums would be a shake up. Boycotted competitions would become confederational embarrassments. Fans turning their backs and saying "NO!" would change things.

But I simply cannot see a way in which that can be engineered. Okay, I'll use Wales for another example. Even if you did convince 100,000 Welsh fans that not going and supporting the team at their first competition in 58 years was the best thing to do "for the greater good of the game", even if you managed to do that, there would be 500,000 more fans who would still flock into the stadia. And it's the same for every country around the world.

Are we destined to always have dictators and fraudsters running the game?

It's the same as with the US elections. Nothing chances. People, like you say won't boycott anything because football is larger than life, apparently.

Infantino was hailed as a man with a clean sheet, until he was elected. The fact that the CAS has reduced the sentence tells everything. They should have kept the ban as it was and give him an extra kick in the back. But they're just as corrupt as all the others.

I hate everything and everyone who has anything to do with all of it.

Also.

I wonder which turd will take Platty's place.

Also nr2.

When you or I commit fraud of any kind, we can expect some time behind the bars. Why are Blatty and Platty still walking free.

FIFA deputy secretary general Markus Kattner has been fired after an internal investigation.

Kattner was dismissed on Monday after a probe found "breaches of his fiduciary responsibilities in connection with his employment contract."

The 45-year-old, who has dual German/Swiss nationality, has been with football's world governing body since 2003 when he joined as director of finance.

Kattner handled the 2011 request to pay Michel Platini £1.3m which led to the UEFA president being banned from football for four years.

He took over FIFA's top administrative job when Jerome Valcke was suspended last year - Valcke was eventually sacked in January and suspended from all football activities for 12 years.

........

After the Swiss investigating the bids for the 2018 and 2022 WC bids, the French will also start an investigation for the 2022 bid. Especially after it came out that Blatty's son got a nice job in Qatar after they won the bid.
