The FIFA Bribe Scandal...

They'll have to do better than resurrecting Hugo Chavez to sing a few musical numbers if they want to divert attention from whatever misdeeds have been brought to light this week.

I thought it was for the eletion?
Both it seems.

Would not shock me (sadly) if Israel was banned due to the dangerous situation there and also a UEFA withdrawal from the 2022 WC due to FIFA's stupidity.

Thanks. The only coverage that we got was that there is a meeting - this thread was the first I had heard about the Israel vote. Although a few weeks ago, I did see a segment on "Foreign Correspondent" about the challenges that the Palestinian team faced just getting to Australia for the Asian Cup.

They've been doing it for years. If I remember rightly they were shown bulldozing a playground the team used in a great documentary about the team preparing for the 2006 World Cup:

Meanwhile, someone at the Guardian doesn't see the irony of selling T-shirts with the slogan 'Against Mod£rn Football' on it, alongside a helpful description that states "opposition to what's being done to our game in the name of greed" for £19.99 each...

Apparently the FIFA Congress has been delayed due to a bomb threat

edit: Also, the president of the Congolese FA has accused Germany of buying votes during their (successful) bid for the 2006 World Cup...

Ah, now all the "Well, we did this but you did this in..." is coming out. Not just that particular outburst but everything; from FIFA calling the English FA bitter for investigating, the whitewashing of the Garcia report. These are supposed to be consummate professionals representing the world's most popular sport. How juvenile, how playground is this?

I see some parallels to F1. If Sepp Blatter and Bernie Ecclestone disappeared tomorrow, our respective sports would be far better off.

Edit: Now the Serious Fraud Office (a UK institution) say they are 'monitoring' the situation. They are "assessing materials in their possession"; they've clearly got something up their sleeve.

"What is time?"

Edit: Blatter has all the African countries and Mickey Mouse islands on lock so this is not even a contest.

Don't ever be tempted to refer to the Blatter as being Teflon (R) (TM) coated, Du Pont don't like it :D

@andrea, I watched some but as soon as the comments got more entertaining than the stream (which really didn't take long) I decided to wait for the news to cover it this evening :D

This is going to take a while... they are inviting people up one by one and somehow there is already a queue at one of the two voting boths, and they're only up to Armenia :ill:
