So anyone ready to recommend some good shonen that are just starting and may become popular?

Anime or manga? New anime pop up like every week so it's hard to keep up to date with shows before they're popular. The only two I can think of off the top of my head is Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko and Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru.

EDIT: Oh, and Kagerou Days is going to start soon and I'm sure that will be popular.

For manga, I like Wagatsuma-san Wa Ore no Yome, Buyuden(Though I guess that one has been going on for a while), Nisekoi, and one that was just uploaded to Mangahere yesterday, DICE: The Cube That Changed Everything.

I don't watch anime, because I like to stick with the canon story lines. So I only read manga and comic books...

Do you guys ever feel like idiots when you don't recognize a voice in an anime? I just looked up some voice actors and feel like an idiot now.
 
Not really. Sometimes a VA will do one kind of voice for one character and then do a different one for another. This makes it hard to draw the connection. If it's the same voice used for different characters, then it jumps out at me pretty easily.

Miyuki Sawashiro, Rie Kugiyima, Kana Hanazawa and Eri Kitamura are easy to recognize for me. Others names include: Satomi Arai, Sayaka Oohara, Nakamura Yuuichi, Hiroshi Kamiya, Tomokazu Sugita and Takehito Koyasu.


Some VAs which I never drew connection to were people like Saito Chiwa. I pay hella close attention to her voice when she does Hitagi Senjogahara (Bakemonogatari), but I almost can't connect that voice to her singing the opening theme of said show. I also can't imagine her voicing Aika Granzchesta (Aria) because the voice she uses sounds completely different from Hitagi's.

I'm looking on MAL right now and it seems Haruka Tomatsu who did the a sweet girl impression of Yuina Wakura (Hanasaku Iroha) is also doing the tomboyish Mataemon in (Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Bride) currently. Who'd have thought?

I played that game a couple of times. Aya Hirano was the first I did it for so I named it after her. Though I'm not so sure I'll see her in Death Note quite as I did when she was Haruhi.

I also know that Kana Hanazawa has been in every anime I have ever watched. Could throw a dart at a list of anime and she'd be in the one it landed on.

That said, the effect of recognition hits me most with Emiri Katou (not as Kyubey obviously). When I heard her the first time in Denpa Onna then found out she was in monogatari as Hachikuji my view of said character changed rather a bit.
 
I'm not very good at catching voice similarities. Proof of that is that I had watched one episode of Yuyushiki, Girls und Panzer, and Sukitte Ii Na Yo in a row, and Ai Kayano does a voice in each of those and I didn't notice at all.
 
Saw the Haruhi movie over the weekend and it was really good, didn't really get juicy till a little past half way in but id almost consider it a buy.
 
Yeah endless 8 isn't that good. With good understanding of the previous eps though, the movie is sex.
 
I think I only watched the first, second, and third Endless Eight's, and I was already fed up half way into the second one. I would rate The Disappearance Of Haruhi Suzumiya as one my favourite films though, although it has to lose a few points for requiring you to have watched the series first, which while good (excusing Endless Eight, and that only because they made EIGHT freaking episodes out of it rather than two), was a bit too fanservicey and not quite blackly humorous enough for me. The movie hits the nail on the head though. I'm just repeating myself about how Endless Eight sucks and Disappearance is great now.

Well It isn't that bad. It is to show the gradual change over that time. If you watched it completely, you'd understand. It just doesn't go well with the attention span of most people today.
 
I've been very impressed so far with Attack On Titan. I was expecting a run-of-the-mill action shounen with the bog-standard shounen hero, but I've been proven wrong. 👍
 
I think the author has had read enough mainstream shounen mangas to identify what he doesn't like about them. The main characters of AoT all seem to be direct reaction of opposing and showing up other shounen manga authors to say how much better character designs can be that people can still love and admire.

Now I'm just bracing myself for Hei's inevitable bollocks about this car. :indiff:
 
Hmm... If I was going to have an Eva liveried car I'd just have it in Unit-01's colours, with as little other clutter as possible. I know it's been done in Super GT, but it'd be awesome on an LMP1. I never really liked Unit-02's colours that much, although they're nowhere near as bad as Unit-00's in Rebuild... :crazy:
