Hah, you'll love how much I've got to say on all this then.
I'm into a lot of what many observers would call 'trash'. But I get into a lot of series in spite of that. Why?
Because I'm not really what you'd call an anime fan any more. What I am a fan of, is fan art. And fan art =/= anime. What fan art is, is doujinshi. And that's what I'm a fan of now.
I'm not getting into Idolmaster (which I'll have my thoughts on finally written up by the end of today, I promise) because it's an anime masterclass. Well, maybe I'd find Cinderella Girls' anime great if I watched it, but judging by how I don't even like most of its characters, I have my doubts. But that's not the point. I'm not getting into it for the anime, or even through a great love of what I've seen - I really don't with most of it. I'm getting into it because I admire just how successful it's been, and I'm interested in just what has gotten it there.
In fact, I admire it even more now. Someone crunched the numbers for how many circles did what at Comiket 92, as is customary nowadays. I can't get hold of the chart right now (still at work), and I don't wanna sound like a clickbait website, but I could not believe just where Idolmaster's numbers put it. I'll show you what I mean when I can...
Of course, what really turned me around on this whole thing is Touhou; my favourite series of all time, and the most successful series in all doujinshi by a long, long, long way. It's not at the top of the game any more, but nothing else is ever gonna top it historically ever again. It's a series with fan works of all sorts at its very core - and when a series can get so many creative minds to come out and make stuff on such an incredible scale, you know it must be doing something right. And that's why I've turned my head towards doujinshi for the past 5 years - and not the latest anime in town.
I'll have more to say once I can get this EyeMass piece finished. And when I can get that research up that I was talking about.
Well, I said sorry because it is the longest writing I had for a while, but guess it is okay to put it down here. As long it is not offensive. Btw, I kinda agree with what you said about fanart/doujinshi. Myself is also rather interested to that area because I simply like drawing things sometimes (not great btw) and admiring those gorgeous illustration of certain characters from different kind of artists. That's why I spend my time checking websites like Pixiv or imageboard like Danbooru.
Speaking of Comiket, while we know it is a big annual event held every single year it might have a bit problem because apparently the venue, Tokyo Big Sight is going to use as Olympic venue by 2020. The question is should them move the venue for Comiket or for the worse skipped them for the sake of bigger, global event? However, the officials stated it is still going by that year with unknown plan whether it is still held on the same place or else. Here is an article I found few days ago regarding the issue :
I am sure most of you already know that in the year 2020, the Olympic Games will be held in Tokyo, Japan. In order to prepare for the event, the venue Tokyo Big Sight was being renovated, developing 12 hall into 16 hall for Olympic purposes. But how does the fate of Comiket that are annually held in this venue?
Koichi Ichikawa, one of the chief organizers of the Committee said, "We don't know how the show would be running in the year 2020. But we hope to host them as much as possible with the assumptions in (Tokyo), Big Sight.
"The staff and the circle also was already used to the venue for about 20 years, The venue is also great and solid, there is a relationship between the Comiket is inseparable with the Tokyo Big Sight."
Given the newcomers could reach hundreds of thousands every year, I can't imagine when Tokyo Big Sight is full with Olympic entrants combined with Comiket together. Not to mention the incredible long queue that will probably interfere with the course of events of the Olympic Games.
One alternative Tokyo Big Sight is Makuhari Messe, however the owner of the venue has ever refused the Comiket is held in place because of their rules that prohibit selling items that have sense of pornography. As you already know, a lot of the circle that sell H-doujin in this show.
Although it is not yet time for worrying about this, but do you think it will still be held at Tokyo Big Sight even though they had Olympic Games? Why?
