Hah, you'll love how much I've got to say on all this then.

I'm into a lot of what many observers would call 'trash'. But I get into a lot of series in spite of that. Why?

Because I'm not really what you'd call an anime fan any more. What I am a fan of, is fan art. And fan art =/= anime. What fan art is, is doujinshi. And that's what I'm a fan of now.

I'm not getting into Idolmaster (which I'll have my thoughts on finally written up by the end of today, I promise) because it's an anime masterclass. Well, maybe I'd find Cinderella Girls' anime great if I watched it, but judging by how I don't even like most of its characters, I have my doubts. But that's not the point. I'm not getting into it for the anime, or even through a great love of what I've seen - I really don't with most of it. I'm getting into it because I admire just how successful it's been, and I'm interested in just what has gotten it there.

In fact, I admire it even more now. Someone crunched the numbers for how many circles did what at Comiket 92, as is customary nowadays. I can't get hold of the chart right now (still at work), and I don't wanna sound like a clickbait website, but I could not believe just where Idolmaster's numbers put it. I'll show you what I mean when I can...

Of course, what really turned me around on this whole thing is Touhou; my favourite series of all time, and the most successful series in all doujinshi by a long, long, long way. It's not at the top of the game any more, but nothing else is ever gonna top it historically ever again. It's a series with fan works of all sorts at its very core - and when a series can get so many creative minds to come out and make stuff on such an incredible scale, you know it must be doing something right. And that's why I've turned my head towards doujinshi for the past 5 years - and not the latest anime in town.

I'll have more to say once I can get this EyeMass piece finished. And when I can get that research up that I was talking about.

Well, I said sorry because it is the longest writing I had for a while, but guess it is okay to put it down here. As long it is not offensive. Btw, I kinda agree with what you said about fanart/doujinshi. Myself is also rather interested to that area because I simply like drawing things sometimes (not great btw) and admiring those gorgeous illustration of certain characters from different kind of artists. That's why I spend my time checking websites like Pixiv or imageboard like Danbooru.

Speaking of Comiket, while we know it is a big annual event held every single year it might have a bit problem because apparently the venue, Tokyo Big Sight is going to use as Olympic venue by 2020. The question is should them move the venue for Comiket or for the worse skipped them for the sake of bigger, global event? However, the officials stated it is still going by that year with unknown plan whether it is still held on the same place or else. Here is an article I found few days ago regarding the issue :

I am sure most of you already know that in the year 2020, the Olympic Games will be held in Tokyo, Japan. In order to prepare for the event, the venue Tokyo Big Sight was being renovated, developing 12 hall into 16 hall for Olympic purposes. But how does the fate of Comiket that are annually held in this venue?

Koichi Ichikawa, one of the chief organizers of the Committee said, "We don't know how the show would be running in the year 2020. But we hope to host them as much as possible with the assumptions in (Tokyo), Big Sight.

"The staff and the circle also was already used to the venue for about 20 years, The venue is also great and solid, there is a relationship between the Comiket is inseparable with the Tokyo Big Sight."

Given the newcomers could reach hundreds of thousands every year, I can't imagine when Tokyo Big Sight is full with Olympic entrants combined with Comiket together. Not to mention the incredible long queue that will probably interfere with the course of events of the Olympic Games.

One alternative Tokyo Big Sight is Makuhari Messe, however the owner of the venue has ever refused the Comiket is held in place because of their rules that prohibit selling items that have sense of pornography. As you already know, a lot of the circle that sell H-doujin in this show.

Although it is not yet time for worrying about this, but do you think it will still be held at Tokyo Big Sight even though they had Olympic Games? Why?

Nah, it's alright. I'm cool with long reads (I know, you couldn't tell by the length of the stuff I write).

The only way Comiket could reasonably happen in the summer of 2020 is if they move it right to the start of summer. Else they'd have to move it so far back that the winter Comiket would be too close.

Anyway, here's that chart I was banging on about.

001_R_976x638.jpg

Here's all the series in numerical order:
KanColle, Touhou, Idolmaster, Touken Ranbu, Fate, Love Live, Yuri!!! on Ice, Girls und Panzer, Granblue Fantasy, Haikyu!!, Osomatsu, Vocaloid, Tiger & Bunny, Kuroko's Basketball, Attack on Titan, Ensemble Stars, Yowamushi Pedal, World Trigger, Hetalia, Blood Blockade Battlefront, My Hero Academia.

And in case you're wondering what the colours of the lines are about...blue is male-oriented, red female, purple both. And those gray lines below? They're the series' numbers for Comiket 91 last winter.

Firstly, KanColle's star is falling. Good. (Its gender-swapped equivalent, Touken Ranbu, is doing much the same.)

Secondly, a reminder; Touhou is the most successful series in doujinshi history. And yet now, well past its peak, it was nearly beaten by Idolmaster. And even that was down from last year! iM@s is still pretty fresh but, with last year's numbers, it would have beaten Touhou this year. Which is faintly ridiculous. I knew Idolmaster was popular out east when I started looking into it - I didn't think it'd be this popular... That's what having 200 characters (albeit with only about 60 prominent ones) at peak popularity gets you over having about 140 who are getting a bit long in the tooth.
P.S. Still haven't finished writing about iM@s

Also, Fate has made it big. More than double anything below it. Of course, the difference is Fate hasn't just come out of nowhere. We all knew about it before. But Grand Order has taken it over the top. Bravo, I say. A big series with something for everyone.

And yes, Love Live is still best of the rest. It's also falling. At least some of it still mu's...

By the way, I'm researching on some of these series, 'cause I'm writing about them as well. Surely the best is Ensemble Stars, if only because it's so amusing to me. It's literally Idolmaster in reverse: you play as a girl who's a transfer student in a high school and you help out a unit of boy idols. Of course, the difference is, it doesn't come packaged with the whole professional idol image Idolmaster carries. Which is great. I doubt I'll catch onto it, but it's funny to me all the same.

Finally, a small point; I can't think of anything less suitable for me than Hetalia. And its fanbase.

I considered dropping it around that time, but it gets much better in the second cour.

Which episode you are currently watching now? Already finished it and while I also agree it is a bit dragged in the middle, you have to be patient until things get a bit warm near to the end.

Alright, that is such detailed post you have there... It is fine btw, that is pretty informative imo. Nice to know that the world of doujinshi is quite competitive. Also, looking at the chart it seems Kancolle still leading, but as you said there is significant drop in numbers is it right? And Touhou while already lost the crown from Kancolle imo it is still strong and consistant through years, as evident it is still being used as favorable materials by most of artist and illustrator until today.

Yeah, KanColle is falling pretty hard, but let's not fool ourselves here - it's reached virtual immortality*. It won't ever go below 1k again. There'll be more than enough fans who stick around to make that happen.

Like Touhou, for instance. The other series which has gone on and on (and will continue to do so). It speaks volumes that its numbers, when it's some 8-9 years past its prime, are still the second highest. Even if others are getting really close now.

*not to be confused with immorality, though it has gotten a lot of that as well

Okay, thanks for the explanation. Kancolle is predictably gaining quick popularity since the game is released, but I don't expect it is going to be a massive hit in Japan and other countries. However, I personally like the core idea of Kancolle which give you a hidden history lesson while having fun with your favorite personified ship girls. Every time I saw a discussion about Kancolle it is eventually ended up with real historical event with some explanation of ships specification, the year of service and battle statistics during ship lifespan. I really am a history geek tbh, especially if it is about the history of machinery and engineering (I also enjoyed WW2 era history btw). Might sounds boring for some people, but this what fascinated me and Kancolle is nailed some of those point (hence "immortality" factor as you said), even though sometimes it does get a bit "immoral" with loads of Kancolle H-doujin spreading the internet.

Btw, I'm not playing the game yet, but I simply like to knowing more about the fact and stats behind the characters (ships) themselves. Other factor is probably just characters design and traits.

However, there is different story with the anime adaptation though, which I found it is still enjoyable but lacking in many ways. But that's for later.

Already finished. yeah, the plot got way better towards the end. though the ending was... weird, to put it rather poorly i admit.

I don't think the ending was bad tbh. Being weird is what Trigger does, hence another super ecstatic and overhyped finale of Kill La Kill. Imo the finale for LWA was done nicely, you can feel the climax for the whole thing, but there is possibilities for next season if it happens. Also, it is mainly because of the shipping (you know which characters are...), but I'm not really focus into that matter.

Also, just found this top 10 list. Which one did you guys think is the best or recommended to watch?

I already watch some of them like Mach GoGoGo (obviously since I watch it since I was a kid) Goddamn and Initial D (not yet the Fifth and the last trilogy movie btw). I know all of the titles and watch some clips on Youtube but just curious with your opinion and about them.

I finally finished writing about Idolmaster. And it only took me 5,555 words to do it. That is how much of it has been on my mind. And I'm still not finished. I got most of what I wanted in, but I realised I forgot one crucial point in my piece. But I'm not too bothered, because it gives me an excuse to talk about it in a future write-up.

Also I need an entirely separate piece to fully cover its characters. Despite the massive bit talking about them in there, I only really scraped the tip of the iceberg with them here. I need another writeup to talk more about characters individually.

Oh, and of course this is now my cue to go and look deeper into the series. So I'm afraid I won't be shutting up about Cinderella Girls (or Starlight Stage, or its music) any time soon, I'm afraid. Sorry.

At least I've got plenty more different things to write about... Think I'll finally start writing about the new Touhou game. It's been out long enough now, I think.

Capeta is pretty great.

SVX
It's releasing in Sept I believe.

We already know that from the source above but it is not what I mean. This is what I referring to:

I want to know if this key visual/illustration is already seen before or not. Sorry if that make you confused.

Also, just watched Koe No Katachi. Probably it is the best anime adaptation KyoAni make so far imo. Guess it is the peak of their creation, such an emotional and good dramatic effort they have done with this movie. Wonder if they can do more surprises with next year TV series Violet Evergarden.

So currently I'm watching three airing animes (the wait is real) and those are Koi to Uso, Tsurezure Children, and Gamers!. Among the three Gamers! is what stands out the most since its too relatable for gamers.

The only flaw to that anime is...
The amount of misunderstandings in that anime is just unreal. A lot of those who were watching got annoyed due to the misunderstandings but for me I find it hilarious but at the same time I don't mind.
