So what makes the juice carton better than anime packaging? The packaging does more than just hold the the content; It eliminates the need to read what flavour it is (which eliminates any language barriers), it's appearance is outstanding and easily recognizable.. when you go buy things, you don't go up and read each name of the product in the aisle until you find the one you want, you usually will look for something on the packaging that's recognizable, in this case, a picture of the fruit flavour you want. No other packaging tries to transform the carton into the surface of the fruit itself, so before you even reach it, you'd have already noticed it.

You do know that with just the shape, and no color people wouldn't know what flavor it is? If it wasn't yellow or green, but was like white or black, I can guarantee you most people would be confused.

The way I see it is: "If it looks like a plain ol illustration done for fun, if it looks like a drawing that just got cropped into the canvas space of a dvd box", then it's "generic"... The soundtrack case isn't that though, it's borders and the fancy fine-line gem drawing are similar looking in illustration style, and it certainly doesn't look like something I could have "ripped off the web" and cropped it into place.

There are about 3 types of generic covers there: protagonist only, main characters (4 of them show exactly 3 characters) and TTGL's is a perfect example of character cluster**** you can see in posters all around. All completely bland if you ask me.

Death Note's is the only one remotely interesting there, it kind of gives you an idea of antagonism between Light and L, which is after all exactly what the show is all about. It has at least some of a "specifically for this" feel to it.

Well you can't do a whole lot when it comes to anime. I mean, what do you think they could have done to make the Steins;Gate cover way better? I don't think of those as generic really.

No, that's the point. Each of them should be different, each should have it's own defining characteristic. I know it's too much to expect all covers to be unique but it is kinda saddening to see so few of them at least try to do something different.

You won't get that however when FUNimation releases the show in two parts. That artbox even won't have it.

Also, I see consistency fairly often in the cover art on releases here. Look at the Naruto box sets (The newer ones, the 8 26 some episode ones.) for example. Or the 4 YuYu Hakusho box sets here.
