At first it was:

Well, I can't say anything about the supposedly amazing After Story, but the first season of Clannad is just so... meh. A couple funny/cute gags, repeated ad nauseam. And characters are mostly hollow and uninteresting, which is fatal in a story that's all about the characters.

But then it was:

It has a good story, time loops and character relationship build up.

Argument for Clannad: It's not that long, the animation is good, it has characters you will begin to care about, some of the ideas in it will surprise you, and once you watch it you get to watch afterstory, which unless you're severely dehydrated will make you cry. And then smile.

It's really a simple concept, but the best stories are. But simple is also the most challenging, since you can't dress it up with action and sex. If you get it wrong, it's painfully obvious. Clannad isn't the best show you'll ever watch, but it's one you'll remember and be glad you took the time for.

So, lets start building this. First season (how long?) is something, according to Walter, lame and without escence tht I'll have to endure in order to reach After Story, which is suposedly the good part according to the entire internet.

As for animation and artwork, those are ALREADY decided to be points against it. If there is something I dislike about Clannad is how it looks. And how do I take the contradiction 'tween Walter's "lame characters", and Goddin's "Characters you care about"? Are they lame characters that I'll get to care about?

Then:

Dangos are lame, but the song isn't.

Try to enjoy its humour for the first season..Tomoya's pranks are great, especially the ones involving Fuko. get past that and then you're on the road to a better show.

Already has me worried. I don't like anime humor, it's the lamest thing since the invention of big eyes. It was enough of a reason for me to turn down Trigun, so this doesn't really help. And the music was pretty teenage-stupid too. That's the only thing I've tried of Clannad and it didn't help either.

It's just contradicting opinions. The characters were just lame for me... Clannad failed to make me care about them at all.

Even if you don't like moe... Clannad and Clannad After Story are two animes that any anime fan has to watch. Its just one of those shows that if you don't, you really are missing out. Both the sub and dub have excellent cast lineups. --- Randy

Yeah, and it sucks a bit. Specially in the newer animes where they use a much simpler style instead of the more elaborated eye we saw at their early works. Anyway, I just referenced the big eyes as a general anime stereotype that can be way lame at times. I know you get my point.

ZERO argument in here except that moe bit, which is true. I could care less about voices because they are japanese schoolgirls, they are FOR FACT annoying as heck. I've already assumed that.

Not. I decided to watch Steins;Gate because you all raved about it, THEN I went and looked what it was about and seemed pretty interesting and the characters looked neat, and Lol-blade and Walter clowned all overthe place about it, that is why I decided. Not only because you all said it was awesome.

I decided NOT to watch clannad after you all raved about it and I went and looked what it was about and it seemed like a complete waste of time. And it still does.
