Kenshin is old, '96-'98, and yet it ranks #141/3776 at ANN, top 5%. So I have no problem accepting your disdain as an admission of your sometimes poor taste. :P

@T12, because your tired.. I am surprised not to see the Board of TGAT here.

I did get out of bed at 4 in the darn afternoon for some reason. :grumpy:

My whole day was 🤬 because of that it seems.

That's wonderful.

Isn't it? =3

Gerudo Valley is another track on the disc if you like it as much as (seemingly) everyone else does.

You can't really expect me to stand a suposed samurai anime with that kind of trash. It's a disgrace. And it's even worse after you've watched Trust and Betrayal. It really, deeply makes you wonder why they killed the TV series in such a way.

EDIT:

For Loli (profile pages forbid the use of BBCode).

OMFG yes. That entire album is insanely cool.

Heck, even Samurai Champloo. You know how it had a slight dose of comedy but it wasn't stupid-ass stuff like Kenshin had. And lets not forget the absolutely annoying characters. ALL. OF. THEM.

I think it's kind of like hard wired tastes. I just can't watch some movies which are otherwise very popular like Dumb and Dumber. They just feel like somebody's stuck a knife in me, and now I'm mad, and I have to break something.

But I give Kenshin a 9/10. I can easily get over dated and stylized and even low quality animation, in return for something of quality. Yes, I like the humor in Kenshin. But its real strength for me, if I recall correctly, is the warmth between the characters. Very believable relationships. And some pretty deep and moving motivations behind them. And occasionally great action.

But if you get stuck on the particular brand of humor and style, I can understand.

Very believable relationships.

Kenshin sez something and then the girl punches him in the face. Then he sez "orooooooooo", with stupid eyes and falls to the ground. OVER. AND OVER. AGAIN.

Yeah, VERY believable.

Come on dude. You're too kind with stuff like this.

Dammit, quit being so mature. It grows on you, it really does! Again, top 5% anime according to ANN users...

Also, that was dub, which in this case (and most) sucks. And out of context.

Well that is true. If I think about it, without knowing the characters at all and hearing the jokes out of context it is harder to see the funny.

Still, it is quite a dumb kind of humor.

^Yes Angel Beats OST > Clannad OST.

The beginning piano bit lifts you into a dream world...
The constant kick from the drums kinda kills the mood, but it's a pop song, what do you want?
The piano is always playing and doesn't stand out and isn't given the focus of the piece as it keeps a low profile versus the other instruments during the chorus. That and the strings and other instruments play a delicate melody and set a pleasing mood.
It's the subtly and little bits each and every instrument play that I like about this; where there is no dominant role (the piano doesn't overrule the other instruments).

and Lia's a pretty good singer for someone who's involved the anime biz.

Talk about not giving reasons for statements...

The beginning piano bit lifts you into a dream world? How so? And... why didn't it have this effect on me, eh?

So you like subtle piano in the background. But how does that make the song beautiful?

And how is Lia a good singer for someone in the anime biz? And how is that relevant to the song's beauty? Good singers can produce songs that aren't beautiful, and it's not impossible for bad singers to be part of beautiful songs.

So... you see, harassing me for "reasons" for my statements is pointless when it's a matter of opinion. There is nothing that is objectively beautiful, it's all subjective bro. My opinion of the song's beauty just differs from yours.

If I ever watch Kenshin, I'm only watching T&B.

Do watch it. It's amazing.

Now imagine watching it in spanish, BUT the dub was made in... heck, Colombia, Venezuela or something like that. it was EVEN WORSE.

And even then, they did not take the stupid "oroooooooooooo" away.

I'm telling you, it's one of the lowest points of anime. EVER.

T&B is awesome, definitely watch it everybody.

The 95 episode series is old school japanimation. Again, I understand if you can't get over the style, or if you don't like that brand of humor. But most people who watch it really like it.

And I'll just take a moment here to go on about why I hate dubs. Again, sure, on occasion a dub may be great, just as good as or even better than the Japanese original. But for the most part, the dub is going to be much worse that even a poor fan-sub to watch. The reason being, voice acting for animes is a serious profession in Japan. The seiyus get paid well and get respect and fame even. It attracts great talent. Most of these guy/gals are great actors. And even though I don't know what they're saying, I get the feeling behind it. Kenshin had heart. The original voice actors were great.

Another thing is about culture. Animes are made primarily for Japanese audiences. So while people from other parts of the world may find things like Kenshin's ara's mind-bogglingly annoying, to a Japanese audience it makes sense, and has character, and is funny. I for one watch anime trying to get into a Japanese mindset. It helps that I've been able to do that once already by learning to speak/read Spanish. It's not easy to do. But if you can do it, it's delightful. Simply trying to translate the Japanese into other languages and expecting it to always come across well for foreign audiences is a recipe for disaster.
