That isn't why, it's from the other party failing to understand certain things, like failing to understand anime is a niche market, or how the anime bubble burst here in the US. The anime boom is long over. I could go more in-depth and post examples, but you'd probably blow it off.

At this point, I think you're just trolling. Not going to bother with this at this point.

Minus the part where I said it was a niche market. And minus the part where I said the economy has gone down (the bubble bursting), and I've not blown much of anything off minus when it doesn't support a damn thing you've said. Which it hasn't. You've honestly mentioned so many things to undermine yourself that it boggles my mind.

You have no clue what you are talking about. Or, at the best, so damn clue how to present it convincingly, at all. Please, learn how to approach a debate with evidence and a logical thought process. I suggest looking at the posts of Danoff in the Debate sub-forum. Or Famine.

Please take it to PM..... I don't want this thread getting closed because two people are getting fired up about something the rest of us aren't interested in talking about.

Don't worry, it is over anyhow - no point in discussing it to someone that won't listen. Or produce a valid point beyond "But its badddddddddd"

I am having with Guilty Crown. The only character I'm really interested in at the moment is Segai. The rest all seem pretty 1 dimensional, at least that they are giving attention. Gai has some hope, and Keido. But I think most of the rest I can describe in one word...

Hey now, it's not over.

I'm interested in hearing TheCorvette's thoughts on the matter, even if I disagree.

Keep watching.

Shu mans up pretty good.

And then takes a total step backward in episode 10. Wut?

Walter, stop second-hand trolling.

Walter, stop second-hand trolling.

Just stay over at BR, why don't you? I'm not "second-hand trolling", whatever that's 🤬 supposed to mean.

It's a genuinely interesting topic of discussion.

I know right.
Like, immediately into 10 I was like "What happened to a Shu that knew wtf he was doing?" God damn, srsly.
Oh, and I'm current. I couldn't sleep last night so I watched all 9 of them. Back to back.

Walter, stop second-hand trolling.

Oh god, he is learning.

Also, multi-quoting you people and your fonts is a bit of a hassle at times. Ya know?

That last scene.... wind coming in from the window was getting a little carried away, wanted to see a hug.

I was here first, so no. Why don't you stay over at Banana Rights?

So sales in the US did indeed sharply decline in 2010.

Now, what about 2011 sales? Maybe the 2010 sales were just an anomoly?

And after you can show that the low '10 sales weren't an anomaly, can you prove that piracy was what caused it? Maybe it was just shoddy overpriced releases and/or a lack of compelling new content?
Jetro hasn't put a report out yet for 2011 sales. They do this every 2 years. This was what they did before that.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-04-01/n-america-2007-anime-market-pegged-at-us$2.8-billion
We won't see them put out another report until early 2013. That's when we can see whether the situation has improved or not, but it's a fact, the industry hasn't been doing well as it once did.

I can't prove it's piracy, but when you look at the graph, a couple things click.
1. 2010 had hardly any singles. 2010 was the year that was mainly just the cheaper 13 episode box sets/parts. It cost less than $50 usually to own a 12/13 episode show. Years ago, it would have cost you $120. So, it's from the stuff becoming cheaper, despite it leading to more people probably buying than when singles and artboxes were all the rage.
2. We keep seeing a decline in sales, and then a significant drop. Anime popularity every year keeps going up, so why the decrease? One part, piracy. It's extremely easy to pirate these days. You can't say piracy has done absolutely nothing to the industry. It affects every industry, every single one.
3. The economy. I don't really consider it as big of a factor though due to the fact that we saw sales steady sales from 2007-2009. 2009-2010 was where the big drop took place.

Now as for bad content, I wouldn't really say that considering what was coming out in 2010. We had Dragon Ball season sets, the Dragon Ball Z Dragon Boxes, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Soul Eater, Black Butler, and many other big hits.

So, you're telling me I was a member at BR before here? :odd:

Before TGAT he means.

Did you Haganai watchers not notice this?

So, you're telling me I was a member at BR before here? :odd:

I thought you meant that you were here at GTPlanet before I was, not that you were here before you were at BR.

In that case, your suggestion for me to stay at BR makes no sense. I was here before I was there, too. And you've been a BR member longer than I have, so no matter how you cut it, it makes more sense for you to stay there than it does for me to.

Hrmmm.. have to agree with AOS- that this discussion isn't really contributing to the anime thread, but still I'll contribute my 2 cents.

First, I was going to say outright, but then just read Corvette's last post, that maybe this is an issue of Americans losing interest in anime. But as Corvette's just said popularity is increasing, maybe I'm wrong. But if I'm right, then the conclusion is that we should all become anime crusaders! Convince everyone you know that they should watch anime!

Second, if piracy is an issue, how to deal with it? Seems like physical goods like collectors editions and figures is one way. Licensing to same-time commercial distributors is another, whether sub or dub... this is essentially the same issue the movie and TV industries have to deal with, but they're not losing out enough to shut down because people want to see things as soon as they can, not after the DVD is released and somebody rips it.... But yes, some potential income is lost to easy piracy. Still, I think the question should be not how do they stop it but how do they adapt (though I don't know the answer to that, but I do know that fighting a losing battle is not very productive, you have to move forward with creative solutions.)

That makes sense, yes. Elaborate next time, son. Elaborate.

I don't know what I'm supposed to notice there.

The Kamina-ism.

Tried, it's difficult. People aren't interested enough or they "don't have time"...
And that's why you try getting kids into it first. It's easier to get kids into anime than adults.

How is it not contributing? It's a legitimate, anime-related discussion. And it's not like we've got something more important or interesting to talk about right now...

I'd attribute most of the decline to the decline in the US's economy. Piracy may have an effect on sales... but it's not as cut-and-dry as saying that if somebody pirates something, it's an actual sale lost. I downloaded the first couple episodes of NGE in 2010, which is technically piracy, and it led to me buying a bunch of Evangelion stuff.

Sure, there are some people who genuinely just pirate for the sake of getting crap for free. But I don't think it has nearly as big of an impact to the market as you'd think.

Yeah, all we've talked about is Guilty Crown practically, and how Shu is one of the wimpiest characters around.

Has turned back into one of the wimpiest characters around.

Who still has more balls than Shinji.

:sly: obviously I kept it going...

This statement in particular got me to reply. Now, a lot of you might not be familiar with the 2000 US Presidential election, but there was a 3rd party candidate which got accused of being a spoiler for stealing votes away from Al Gore. Well, I voted for that candidate (Nader), and I absolutely wouldn't have voted otherwise, so the argument that he was a spoiler didn't apply to my vote. Not saying it's exactly the same thing, but yay's point reminded me very much of this.

Yuu? Who?

Heh. Get it?

Back to serious business: who?

It did cross my mind, but then it's referring to the subtitle alone, right?

~Picture~

Because I can't see anything in the screencap itself.

Unless he was referring to the chick in the black undies (second thing that caught my attention), then, yes.

Yuu, that's who!

He's from Noein. :P

Interesting comparison. 👍

Though I think piracy would be a bit more like this:

You don't vote at all the first time GWB's running for President. But after trying him out for a few years, you decide that (for some inexplicable reason) you like him, so you decide to vote for him when he's up for a 2nd term... :P

Silly boy, it's because you haven't watched Oreimo. The people standing in the right side of the image are from another anime..

By the way, I don't know how you can stand watching that pixel fest. I can barely see anything
I don't need Glasses. Does that say something?

On a serious note, it only looks awful as a standstill. Once pictures are moving, I stop caring and just watch. Plus, if I watched it in anything more defined, I'd be splooging each time I watch anything.... *think Rika and Mecha*

Am I seeing Oreimo in that screenshot?
Yes you are! :dopey:

Who still has more balls than Shinji.
THANK YOU!
