Well, where to start ... the first race was a bit of a disaster for me. Qualifying went well, got off to a good start ... and then, after two or three laps, I gave the car in front of me a "light" tap. I then slid into the barrier and stayed there, in the hope I wouldn't impact the race. Oh, how wrong I was ... I got hit (unavoidably) and then had to let the whole field pass by. After everybody passed me, I immediately started turning my shame into ambition and plowed through the track as if there were no tomorrow. All went well, up until I ran into an AMG GT3. I tried overtaking him coming towards the final chicane, but despite the Nissan's unmatched straight-line speed, we were two-wide and ended up staying that way coming into The Chase. The car next to me wouldn't show up on Helicorsa, but it seemed right next to me on the game's track map, leaving me extremely confused and causing me to drive in a very cautious fashion. Coming out of the chicane, the next thing I heard was a bit of cussing - I immediately felt guilty as I now knew I screwed up the race for yet another person. As a result, I can't even remember in what position I finished.
The second race, I hoped, should definitely go better. I managed to get into the front row during qualifying again, but as we started, I managed to stall the car. All I wanted to do was not to shoot forward in a blinding cloud of smoke and yet, I ended up doing the exact opposite instead ...
With quite a few positions lost and bad memories from the overtakes of the last race, I at least tried to make the best out of it. The problem was that my horrible mistake at the start of the race has left me yet again with a burning determination to get at least somewhere close to where I previously was, so I may have been a bit impatient. I still held back a little so I wouldn't end up ruining somebody's race yet again. From what I can tell, at least that part went pretty well (if not, please tell me!). I slowly managed to creep on the leading group, even though I was thrown off at some points when we were halfway through the race. The construction that is supposed to keep my pedals in place decided to deform and as a result, the box managed to move into the pedal path (I guess that's what it's called?), meaning I had to move the pedal set back- and forwards (well, mainly backwards as in towards me - no need to push the pedals further into the box!) while driving - certainly an interesting task. (yeah, sim racing driver excuses
)
At some point, the cardboard box crawled under my brakes in such a way that I could only apply ~20-30% brake pressure. Coming into T2 and using my usual braking point, that meant I was doomed to crash. Despite that, I still managed to carry on (even though with a bit of a loss of time) and started moving further towards the three cars in front of me. As we were on our last lap, this happened ...
to let someone through but he repaid me on the final chicane and I finished third.
Ah, so that was you! I was the one behind you at the end. Letting you through on the final chicane was not intentional though, to be honest.
That certainly was a very interesting ending to this race.
Despite my various mistakes, it surely was a lot of fun! This definitely was one of the most interesting evenings I've had on Assetto Corsa so far ... thanks to all of you for making this possible!
Thankfully, Silverstone is not as narrow as Bathurst and will provide us with lots of run-off zones.
I'm seriously considering this.
Definitely a worthwhile idea, I'm interested in that. It all depends on the timing for me, though.
EDIT: Edited some of my wording as most of this post was written around 3am.
