Thanks to @Wiz we now have a 24/7 practice server running. It's setup for the Cavalier at Silverstone with race conditions so everyone feel free to jump in when you want to practice. Let us know if there are any problems.
I don't know how to do this but there is a way to set up some kind of app to record and save lap times if anyone is looking to compare and measure their pace pre-race. I was thinking about entering a CMS Fun Series race and wanted to check my pace and found a list of current practice times from the server somewhere. The link was in the OP of this thread. It appears to be broken now, but it was working pre-race.

Tim Collier is a pretty helpful guy, if you're interested it might just be a few buttons pushed and away you go (that's a joke

I have no clue.

I tried it yesterday, didn't really care for how it felt (most open wheel cars feel very odd to me for some reason). Plus, the thing is pretty homicidal so I don't think it would do well in this club. We have some guys here who are new to online racing (or just rusty) so for now I'm trying to stick to cars that somewhat easy to manage.

It's stracker.

I have it installed already but there's one thing that I don't like about it and I'm trying to find a way to change it. It's not a priority right now but I'll get it going eventually. :)

Yeah, I could load custom skins in and everyone else would have to install them too (if you wanted to use/see them) but it would still randomly assign them.

When done this way the skins aren't randomly assigned. When you set the server up, the car & skin you pick first is in pit position 1, second, position 2 ... Then when people join they are assigned the first available pit stall for the car they've chosen. When it's all one make, it's just sequential. In the case of the GT3's, it would assign based on the first pit stall not already assigned.

Make sense?

The only way be able to select our own livery is by using booking mode but I don't think booking mode would work great for us (as we saw tonight with some people not knowing if they would be able to show up until the last minute).

There is another way to 'pick' your own skin, but it would require a bit of coordination with Brandon. Driver slots can be assigned with a skin and your Steam GUID. That way whenever you join the server you are assigned that pit stall and skin, every time.

Server can be set up with a mix of GUID assigned slots and 'drop in' slots. This might be a bit of a pain to do, but for the regulars, it could be done.

EDIT: My apologies for missing the race Saturday.

Yes I was aware of that, but without a large coordinated effort, the order in which people join the server is random, so for all intents and purposes it's still a random assignment (with some underlying reason to it). And once people leave after the first race to save the replay it would all get mixed up again anyway. It does mean I can probably pick my own skin though, as long as I'm the first one in the server. :sly:

Eh, I'm not bothered by it enough to jump through any hoops. As long as we all have (mostly) different liveries than I'm satisfied.

Thanks for the info though.

I tried this combo and the Friday Fun combo a bit last night and tonight, should be good racing. :) I'm in the 1:15s in both. Seems like both have racing tranny's and don't need any clutch?

Thanks @Wiz for setting up the server, it was nice to verify my offline time matches online.

How on earth did i not notice a race being held for the car i made. Id join one of the races but id likely get slaughtered tbh though

Great car! We have a pretty good range of talent so everyone generally has someone to race with even if they're not the fastest on the grid, so feel free to join up for some fun. This is just a casual club, not about proving who's fastest but just providing a place for all of us to get together and race with friends for fun. Hope you'll join us!

ill try to one day, focusing on an f300, ts020 and updating the rest of the virtua simulazioni cars currently. My actual alias is brownninja97 but i put my name wrong for whatever reason.

Sorry I missed this one, had to work the weekend. Silverstone Intl is one of my favs. :(

I tried the Alfa @ Imola tonight for 10 laps and best lap was 2'05.9 on the default Mediums. Guessing low 2s will be the norm. 👍

I'm not sure if I can make it this week. I'll go to the theater this Saturday and I'm not sure how long the play will take (and there might be a beer or two before going back home :P), but I'll try to get home as soon as possible.

I downloaded the car tonight and jumped on to the server for a bit of practice. FFB is good, gives good information on understeer, which is handy because this car has PLENTY of that! I tried to do a few setup tweaks to get it to behave a little more to my liking but I suck at setting up cars so I just went back to default with one click change on the final drive ratio to get a bit more speed on the straight before hitting the limiter. Didn't spend much time on it at all, just enough to get a feeling for the car. Did a 1:14.7 for my best lap but it didn't feel that quick. I doubt I'll practice too much before the race due to Automobilista downloading now, so that might be it :P Anyone here done any practice in it and have a good setup?

Strange thing was Brandon was complaining about understeer too during our practice session last weekend, but i was able to happily throw it into the corners and had a lot of fun doing so. Both on default setups.

Yeah, for me it understeers like an overloaded wheelbarrow and somehow I was 4 seconds slower than Señor Dog. :(

What's your guys' opinion on racing at the Nords? In the past I've run into differing opinions, some love it no matter what, some love to drive it but don't like racing on it, some just hate it all around. I'd like to take the BMW 235i there for a race in the near future but wanted to be sure everyone would enjoy it. It's a really good car at that track, fast/lively enough to make you feel like you're in a race car but not so fast that it's difficult to get around the track. Wiz is hosting a track day there tomorrow evening, good chance to get a little taste of what racing there could be like.

I love racing there. You just have to remember a couple of things when racing there. It takes two people to pass. If both people aren't working together it almost impossible to pass. Also that you may need to follow the person in front of you a minute until the track widens enough for the pass. If everyone is cooperating though it can be very good racing.

This:

My experience racing on Nords has been we'll mostly be strung out even further than usual. Which turns it into a hot lap session, in my humble opinion.

I normally agree, and hate getting strung out, but I feel different about the Nords because part of the challenge of racing there is the track itself. If I get separated from the pack it's still very enjoyable to just drive the track, and often times the key to passing is just waiting for someone ahead of you to make a mistake and mistakes are more likely to happen here. It can become more of a race against yourself, trying to minimize mistakes and maximize efficiency, and that can be a very enjoyable and satisfying challenge in itself.

^ We'll need to convert the club into a GT3-one for that. :P

I have to second @kcheeb's thoughts, it's a track better for driving from a singular experience, rather than racing even though it can be done.
