I have to second @kcheeb's thoughts, it's a track better for driving from a singular experience, rather than racing even though it can be done.

I don't entirely disagree, but I do feel like we should visit there at least once, at some point. I think the car being raced will heavily influence the quality of the racing. As we saw with the GT3's at Bathurst, racing those at the Nords would be painfully boring for all but 2 or 3 of the people on the grid. But with a slower, easy to handle car in a one-make race it would be more enjoyable (to what degree is arguable and would vary from car to car). For me, as long as I had at least one car to chase/run from I'd have a throughly enjoyable time. Some of the most fun I've had in all my years of sim racing was hot lapping around there with a couple mates while we just chased each other.

I'll put it on the shelf for now, but if/when you guys get a chance take a few laps around there in the 235i. I think you'll enjoy it and agree that the racing would at least be tolerable. It probably wouldn't produce the best racing we've ever seen but I think everyone would at least enjoy themselves.

I love driving at the ring, whether racing, hot lapping or just messing about. I never tire of it, so would be more than happy to race there.

Didn't mean to rain on anything by my comments. You asked for our opinions, I gave mine :D
If you chose it, I wouldn't skip it because of it 👍

Another track along the same lines is the original version of Lake Louise, although from a race perspective it would likely end up similar to Nords.

@BrandonW77 The ring is great, the M235i isn't just my cup of tea though. Feels too dead and it's actually kinda boring, plus the FFB isn't that good.
The car in real life is probably like that though, so it might be just me thinking like that lol.

No rain, I know there's mixed opinions about it which is why I wanted to gauge the mood in the group, so your honest opinion is appreciated. 👍 I'm not planning on running there in the immediate future but I'd like to at some point. Right now my main concern is getting as many people on the grid as possible so I don't want to pick a combo just yet that some people won't show up for, maybe if/when we get larger crowds I'll roll it out. I've been really pleased with the crowds so far though. :)

I used to think the same until I recently changed some settings and now it's one of my favorite cars in the game with great FFB (IMO). I will explore some other cars, if we go there though I want to use a car that's fairly easy to handle and not super powerful to ensure everyone can get around the track ok. 👍

I wouldn't mind the M235i at the Ring. It does have a bit of an odd gearbox, though. What about the GT86? A bit more lively than the BMW (IMHO), but still controllable.

I haven't really touched it since the Time lap challenge at Imola, it might have changed since then.
On a side note even the Miata might even be a good idea!

For some reason I really dislike the GT86 in AC, which is odd because I've driven a BRZ a few times and it was an absolute riot. For this big of a track I'd prefer something with a little more power and more precise handling.

We drove the Miata a couple weeks ago and that thing is a lunatic! I'd guess half the grid would have multiple spins before the end of the first lap. I think it would probably struggle to get up some of the hills too.

That's actually true, the 1M should be better there, it's a pretty fun and user-friendly while having a nice amount of HP.

The Merc DTM could be a tasty Ring Taxi. I was planning to take it to the GP layout but it might go well around the big track. It's fast but fairly easy to handle. The Escort would probably be the business around there, presuming you guys wouldn't mind racing it again.

Do give the 235i a try though, I did about five laps around the Ring with it the other night and loved every turn, even if it was a bit easy/tame. Since we have a wide range of skill/experience here I just want to be sure we use a car that everyone can get around there fairly well. The 235i fit that bill nicely.

Been a while since I've driven that one but I seem to remember liking it. I'll give it a go.

I drove the Zakspeed Capri around the Nord, and it was amazing. Not sure if it would be a fitting combo here, though. DTM would be cool, though (190E, 155, Escort, etc..).

When I read DTM, for some reason my mind went straight to modern DTM at the 'Ring, which I was gung-ho for...

Then I remembered there are older DTM cars in AC, and are probably what are being referred to. :indiff:

(I like modern racecars, what can I say?)

There is a mod, but it's private. :(

Did a couple laps tonight in the Vauxhall, but couldn't get close to the 2'15s I'd seen before.

Then this thread got me into a Nords mood and I'd agree with @BrandonW77 the 235i and Merc 190 DTM are awesome around there. The 1M is trickier than those; fun, but sound is too insulated in cockpit view, compared to racecars. I tried @fatkrakr's Cobra and laughed...also fun but wouldn't make a good race.

I missed the Escort race at Brands; that's my fav car and I'll drive it wherever. :D

It's not that old, still feels like a modern race car. One of my favorite in the game.

There's the URD mod but it's payware. Too bad not everyone has the URD EGT mod or we'd do a Flat 6 Darche race. :sly:

I'm well up for a nords race, too many people running tourist layouts, don't do enough racing round the ring tbh. The 235i reminds me of 500pp sport tyres racing on gt5. I think its a great car for racing, a little boring hotlapping in it but great for racing.

I've never raced online in AC before, have no idea how the online portion works and only have access to my PS3 controller at the moment, but I'm really tempted to join in with you guys. I love this car and I have so much childhood nostalgia for it, when I used to watch the entertaining John Cleland ragging it around.

Don't think just join

I will try, but I also partake in a weekly event on GT6 that finishes an hour after the practice session is due to start here.

Is there a handy dummies guide to using AC online for the first time? I'll check the main AC forums later tonight.

It's really pretty simple. Just click on the Online tab along the top of the menu and you'll see the list of servers. There's a search box on the top right so you can type in GVRC to easily find our server, select the server by clicking on it and you'll see the track/car info along the to of the screen, click on the name of the car you want to use (in this case there will only be one car option in the list) and then click Join and it will take you to the server. Once you're in the server it all works pretty much exactly like any other track session in AC so that should all be familiar to you once you're in there. Just take a look at it and I'm sure it will all be clear and simple. :) We'd love to have you, regardless of controller type.

Some where in there should be, enter password, no?

This week's combo is a lot of fun. Starting to dig FF's a lot more, you can seriously practice throotle control with them
Is the practice server going to be on today?

Yeah it's up, I was jst wondering if anyone would join the server as well to practice together :)

Maybe, but you have to promise not to spit on them. (llame llama joke) I'll probably be busy testing some cars for the Friday Night Fun Nords track day tonight.

Can't promise anything haha I don't think I'm great on this track time wise though.

You're bound to be better than me, I seem to have several hundred kilo's of concrete hidden somewhere in my boot. :guilty: Best I've done so far is a high 1:16 which is several seconds off the pace of some other drivers.
