The Graphics

Precisely. The graphics have been dumbed down for this demo.

I don't think so. That track is just not that exciting.

1 track, 2 similar cars, not much more, no movies etc.
220MB compressed data is enough to fill 256+256MB RAM (minus space for the OS, reserved space for other 15(?) cars on track.)

I don't know, from the outside of the car, the graphics look alright to me.. except the spectators. But with cockpit view, it really look worse than prologue in my case...

GT1 looks rough round the edges but at the time we all thought it was amazing. If you showed us this demo and said in 2009 you will be playing GT that looks like this we would have been very happy. The graphics on previous games don't really change from the prologue version to the full game, I'm not sure what people are expecting exactly. The PS3 has never claimed to make perfect photo realistic games, it has its limitations like every other console ever made.

Not sure on exact numbers but this demo contains 2 cars and one track. If you assume the track is 100mb and each car and data is 50mb then multiply that by 800 cars that we are getting in GT5 then that's nearly 40gb of data already so I don't see how the graphics can get better once you add all the extra content into GT5.

Wow.. a question.

PD dumbed down the graphics of their biggest title on purpose? Does marketing, public relations, public image mean anything to you? No company would do that on their biggest business item.

File size means nothing - just go here http://www.farb-rausch.com/prods.py and download some of the 64KB demos to learn about a thing called compression.

Exactly why this is bad news because we now know how bad the final game is going to be relative to Prologue...

You don't know how bad the final game is going to be. It's still a demo with limited size with the purpose of letting us test the new physics and allowing us to enter in a competition.
If you hate it that much, go play something else.

my 2p's worth..graphics - nothing new (which was expected). Physics - only had 10laps,but i agree with a comment made earlier, low speed is terrible & whats with the grass..i mean ice rink..??

TokyoDrift,

Let's clear two things out of the way.

1. We're disappointed in graphics part of this demo, right?
Physics-wise.. from 2 hours of solid play, I'm loving updated/improved physics. Definitely improved over 2007 Prologue. Overall, I feel very positive about final GT5 in terms of physics. In terms of graphics, now, I think it's even worse than 2007 Prologue. I still have 2007 Prologue installed on my PS3, comparing back and forth.. this demo indeed looks worse than 2007 Prologue. (My observation).

2. File size. *Installed* demo occupies indeed about 204 MB in size on HDD. This means the demo is really small in size.
This is not the case where compressed file for download is small and once it's installed/extracted, file size gets a lot bigger.

the graphics are probably final and so is the track, people expect way too much from a 3 year old 256mB graphic card, and even then it was a mid range one, any decent computer graphic card with 512 cost at least half the PS3 price, yes it's upscaled, yes it's plain, if you want something more organic it's in 720p like uncharted 2.

Point 1: Fair enough, you prefer the new physics. I don't. But, we agree it looks worse.

Point 2:  You make the incorrect assumption that 204MB installed equates to 204MB used in memory. Not the case.

Because of HDR game engine measuring the exposition from most of the cockpit, the outside is highlighted and washed out. Advantage? You can finally say that cockpits are not too dark. After all, I am against this type of HDR engine, I am already overeaten of it and all its colour shifting and washed out places already from Prologue. Although it's recreating wery well what average digital camera can capture from dynamic range of lights and shadows, we are just used to see the world in full range in our eyes and common rendering of GT4 type was much more natural when it comes to dynamic range and colours for our eyes.

Uhh in response to what you said about the graphics. I'm hoping you realise that this is just a short demo to demonstrate the new physics engine. The graphics aren't as good as people are expecting because it's just a friggin demo. Go back and watch the gameplay from the Tokyo Game Show. The graphics were incredible much better than prologue. This demo isn't what the final game will look like.

I Prefer the New Physics, the Graphics are Pretty Much What I expected(Good Graphics), lets wait for another Track.

Now, Off-Topic.

You Sir Tokyo Drift, you are what People Knows as a Hater with Troll Influences, Why? 99% of your Comments are flamebaits, If the Game comes with Better graphics in the final Build, with the most realistic Physics and GRiD-Like Damage, I BET (Yes, read it) I BET, that you, among some Trolls Will be the only ones Complaining about all those Things.

So, If you hate Gran Turismo all that Much, or in this Case the Demo, what are you doing here? Trolling?...I believe so:idea:

Oh, and why Not, an example of what and how you Do it

See, the Reasonably Priced Car thread:

To keep in the same Crappy Korean Car Theme, The Chevrolet Aveo

Maybe a Dacia Sandero?

Then This Guy Quoted me
Folks I think we have a winner! lol

BAM! someone likes the Idea, and you just cant stand that, so you had to reply

No, we just have somebody who quotes things from Top Gear...

See?:yuck: What was the point of that comment? Trolling.

Long Story Short: Never pay attention to this Dude.

On Topic again:

See, the Indianapolis, and a lot of Nascar Tracks are bland,Dull or boring in what scenery refers, I've been to Daytona, and its as Dull as the Game Version, so I knew it was going to be like that

other Thing i noticed was, Few jaggies, the interior ones are still visible though.

Also I tried the image setting in Crisp, it looked waay more crisp than Prologue, so In General, the Graphics are Good, really Good:tup:

It's just the track that gives you a wrong impression because it's a pretty barebone track, that is all. I played and replayed the GT5 Impreza WRC Gamescom demo for like 6hours in a single day and it looked amazing. This demo is the same to me except the track is a bit boring to look at and the cockpit shadows are way smoother.

Now feel free to flame away TokyoDrift! :]

One thing I noticed was that 720p looks better now then on gt5p. I have a 720p tv, but on gt5p 1080p mode looks much better, now on this demo 720p native looks way better. Almost no jaggies:) Just wish I had a full hd tv to get full potentsial :(

That's my situation too, I guess most people here are on 1080p then, which I'll be on this Christmas!! Guess I'll be back in the club of jaggies then :P

Ooo, just realised I had it on 1080i as I am using my parents tv, 720p kicks 1080i's ass in this demo. can't check 1080p but I would recommend anyone using i to, well, not.

Havent read through the whole thread, but just wanted to say that driving physics is more important to me than graphics... If they have to take a bit away from the graphics to improve on the physics engine and to be able to put in all features Im all for it! :)

Though there is a possibility that you are right, that PD cut down the graphics to include such things as damage and weather that people have been asking for. It might even make way for better framerate and less screen tearing. But i doubt this is the case.

True. Good think bud. I rather to have the best physics over graphics.

Hey I am deaf.

I will give you an example.
English: Hello My name is Brandon
ASL (American Signs Language): Hello Mine name brandon.

A lot of deaf people do writing in ASL. Sorry so blame who's made idea of ASL haha.

I think this thread is pathetic. Prologue was stunning, and this is one track and two cars. How can people be so dramatic?

How can anyone have decent idea of "Graphics" on a stale looking track, with one car...?

And no, it did not take 5 years to do "this".

And "this" is not even a "game", it's just an online time trial. There are no objectives, trials, licenses, or actual racing even! It's just a frekin' online time-trial for GT Academy, also being used to demo the new physics engine, and the players response to it.

I know that's hard on some people that basically only know how to post that kind of stuff... but save the whining about the graphics (or anything else not regarding the physics and the time-trial) to when the real GT5 comes out.

Edit: please?

While on the topic, has anyone compared the new options... flicker reduction and the sharpen options? I tried them both out but didnt notice anything significant. Has anyone else?

I did, i tried Sharpen first and there wasn't much of a difference. Then i tried Flicker Reduction and there was a big difference imo. When playing Prologue and this demo there were still those white jaggies on the lines of the car, with this option on those have all disappeared and the game looks sharp as day now! Wohoo! Flicker Reduction is a great feature for anyone who had this problem before.
