The Graphics

Gran Turismo 5 may have been in development for 5 years, but during those 5 years all of their assets weren't put towards only making the graphics engine. If you've played the trial demo then you've noticed how much the physics and sound have improved over GT5: P.
They haven't been working on a Trial Demo for 5 years, what they've been working on for 5 years is coming out in march.

Guys I need 3 pictures.

When you go to In game Options, under screen options, you can select 3 diffrent options there, some kind of smoothing or flickering options.. Best way to compare them is to take picture of each to see the difference.. Maybe cockpit view? with same exact position on the track? Thanks.

Have no pictures, but flicker reduction made a huge difference! :)

That might explain the exposure changes that I'm hating.. But even then.. im not really looking at this demo for car porn. Just knowing PD is going the right direction with the physics. Ill try that when I get home.

Well it is a race track, And we all know, Nurburgring and city tracks are were PD really shine, i think the graphics are a step above Prologue The car is way more detailed then cars in prologue inside and out, even on a 24" "FLAT" screen "SD" tv i see way less gaggies then i did in prologue.

And you guys are saying no improvement like Prologue actually look's bad.

Not to mention the trees are Actually "3d" instead of being one huge texture like on suzuka in gt5p.

Tree trunks are 3d, although the leaves are flat images layed across each other to look 3d. You can get close to then directly opposite turn 3.

A word that sounds like a river in Egypt comes to mind...

Fact is, this game looks like crap, and it is NOT just because of the track in question. I have seen this track on the TV many times, and realistic this is not. Far to flat and bland. If you think the final game will be significantly better...haha!! As for the controls...

Of course you've seen it on TV, but in person on a practice day.. there isn't anything going on. And yes, the track is VERY flat. There is one golf course infield, and a few spectator mounds on the 4 main turns, but other than that. There's nothing there. Oh.. the Museum... but yeah.. not much to look at.

You're an idiot. Leave the forum. Stop trolling everywhere. If you don't have something productive, constructive, or even remotely logical to say, stop posting.
I reckon the graphics are very good. I can see some of the low textures on the track everyone is talking about, but the cars and the lighting on the cars is very good. Especially the interior, not only does it look realistic, it looks like it's made of the material it's made of. It looks like the high quality plastic or whatever I'd expect.

That's a fairly standard method of rendering trees, granted it's a bit dated now and wouldn't be used for anything but middle / distant scenery. I'm pretty sure the trees on the Tokyo demo were more like the "Speedtree" implementation, anyway.

I mean, really, we're not going to get Crysis / ARMA 2 style trees here, are we?

:dopey:

It's also possible that PD had to tone down the graphics in order to incorporate the damage model.

Not when the car graphics have gone up yet background has gone down. I wouldn't of thought

Oh if you notice the crowd is made of 5 guys and just replicas of them. So 50 red guys all wave at once at the same time 50 white guys sit down. Fun to watch.

I dont buy the "Its 200mb so people can just download it and play it". Not saying this is what the final game looks like... but it'd be stupid to make a game look crapper just so it can be 200mb these days. We are living in a time where people buy games online which are 2-6gb or more downloads, most PC demos are like 400-2000mb. Assuming the servers aren't choked, most people can download 400mb in 7 to 20 minutes.

I'm in Australia and we have some pretty crappy internet out here (I favour buying games from stores rather than steam because my monthly cap is only 20gb at my parents house and 5gb at my own house and can easily slow down so much it'll take a day or two just to download a 6gb game). Even then I'd rather have a 500mb file that looked representative of the final game than a 200mb one that is dumbed down.

So yeah, dont buy the 200mb thats why it looks crap argument, not unless PD are crazy.

The graphics are great, the AA has improved, car models look sexy as always, why are people complaining? Besides this is just one track and car. If you dont like it, just stick to forza and stop complaining. Come on now.

The graphics are fine for me. It looks like prologue and prologue looks great.
Stop whining about it, you got to remember that this is a 200MB DEMO. So shut up and play.

Did you get the Japan download, I noticed you live in Renton is why I ask. I live really close but could not find it yet.

GT5 has the most detailed car models of any racing game ever made, and Indy looks photorealistic in parts. Plus the fact that PD could pull that off at 60 FPS and with 15 other cars on track is an achievement in and of itself. If jaggies are your only problem, then you're just nitpicking. This might be the best looking racing game so far this generation.

After reading some of the posts I wish I hadn't given up religion a long time ago so I had a god I could pray to, that neither anyone of PD nor Sony would EVER read the remarks or even so much as consider listening to the "fans" again.

"Let's work on some stunning car models, portraying them with a high level of detail, make them twitch and jitter under breaking and see if we can put a grid of 12-16 cars together? Maybe we can even give the AI a boost so we'll have nice, tight races?"

"Ah, not right now. I'm too busy with motion capturing and doing 300 different spectator animations. When I'm done, I simply must have another look at the trees, I'm not satisfied with them. In addition, let me get the particle engine up to scratch, there's not enough debris when cars go off the track. Thinking of it, I just skipped all the bumps and surface friction information. You know, I have to implement skid-marks somehow."

What's a popular god right at the moment?

There are some serious deniers here on this forum. How can anyone be happy with what the demo looks like? It looks like Gran Turismo 4 HD. I think for a racing game, graphics are about as important as physics. I guess its quantity or quality and 1000 cars is definitely quantity.

Although I do think the TGS footage looks amazing. Just sayin this demo looks like crap.

In the beginning I thought it wasn't that good..
But actually...
I think the graphics are really OK!
Especially the cars look superb.
My first thoughts were that the background wasn't looking as good as gt5p.. but I don't know. Maybe I just expect too much. But I'm satisfied enough:)!

Oh it's not as bad as all that. The problem is that they get things like cars, physics, and the basic stuff looking and feeling so DAMN good, that we start criticizing the areas that don't matter. If we had cars looking and feeling this good 5 years ago, we'd probably be satisfied. I bet no one criticized GT2's trees. But as games get better, we start to wish they were perfect in EVERY way. :P
Some things are more important than others though. I've been too busy driving to take a serious stop-the-car-and-spend-5-minutes-examining-foliage kind of look, but from where I'm sitting the trees look alright. On the other hand, the game should have skid marks. Much, MUCH lesser games have had skid marks.

Am I the only one who cant see this during replays?

I only see the car from the outside, it never switches to onboard camera. Why?

p.s. I have the TT in italian
You should be able to switch to inboard using select from the bumper cam. Try using select on every view, eventually it'll change.
Still, you can't get all-around-the-cabin views like in those shots I don't think...

+1 👍 Seriously, what do skidmarks and spectator animations add to the experience, if anything? Let's get our priorities in line people. PD has been hard at work for the last five years, and instead of being complimented on the million things they've done well, they're being criticized for unnoticeable details. Maybe it is good that they don't pay attention to the fans.

Watch this http://www.taxigamer.com/PlayStatio...e_Trial_Indianapolis_Road_Course_Replay_.html , he didn't change camera or anything, it was all automatic. Maybe because he had the limited press demo?...

I'll try again changing with select but I've already done it dozens of times.

I also pay the very greatest of attention to graphics and detail.

As much as I love the rich graphics of other titles, nothing beats a game actually doing 60fps. So either richness or smoothness for me.

Reality looks for the most part crap, so maybe that's more a compliment than a criticism after all? ;) Anyway, no hard feelings either way.
