The Graphics

Did anyone forgot this?: http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/d5147.html

The demo was specifically designed for this competition to showcase the realism of the brand-new physics engine and to challenge players’ driving skills using professional driving physics and many of the driving assists disabled. The full Gran Turismo 5 will feature multiple driving assists and various settings that can be changed to make the game easier or more challenging and realistic.

It's GT5P with new physics. Nothing more.

Graphics are dumbed down for ease of download for the time trial.

Full version of the game will be better.

No reason to have a pissing contest here. Just enjoy the damn demo while it lasts.

That's my situation too, I guess most people here are on 1080p then, which I'll be on this Christmas!! Guess I'll be back in the club of jaggies then :P

Use the Flicker Reduction display option in 1080p, it helped take away the jaggies for me. Prologue had a lot on my tv and this demo doesnt with this feature.

Wow! There is so much baiting, claims of superior knowledge, and extreme amounts of pompous speculation being delivered to this thread.

Is there any source out there that offers details as to what exactly this demo represents? I'm getting a bit tired of reading through the BS, ego postings.

TokyoDrift, (and anyone else who keeps complaining, his complaints are the most abundant though) you are clearly a d*mn idiot if you think this is the final version of GT5 for two reasons.

A. A reviewer who was testing the demo said they recieved an email from a sony rep saying this demo was ONLY to show off the the new physics, everything else, GT5P (or less in the case of your bland environment. What exactly were you expecting from a 201MB demo? Come on.)

https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-time-trial-demo-screenshots-video/

B. And most importantly, WE HAVE SEEN VIDEOS OF GT5 MONTHS AGO WHEN THE GRAPHICS LOOKED BETTER THAN THIS! Do you really, REALLY think that Kazunori Yamauchi, the uber-perfectionist, said "You know, this looks too good, take it back to Prologue quality."

And are you so very greedy that you would complain about the quality of a game that is already the BEST in class? If you don't like the way this looks, go play a better racing game. What's that? You're still here? There aren't any better racing games? Ok, then SHUT UP.

Either you're a troll or an idiot (as suggested above), or possibly a goldfish seeing as your memory is about 8 seconds. Stop being an annoyance, I'm not sure what kind of enjoyment you get out of making negative comments about a demo of a game (kinda, again, it's not GT5, I don't give two ****s about what the intro screen says on the demo) that's not due out for another 3 months.

Ok, new subject, seeing as I downlaoded the JP PSN version of the game, and everything in the game was in English, does anyone think this will be the case for the final version? If so, I do believe Japan's sales will outsell all other countries this due to everyone importing it haha

The mods should see if this "randomname1" is not a "clone" of someone else... Joined Dec 17 2009, with a grand total of 1 post strikes me as new account created to the sole purpose of starting an inflammatory thread trashing GT.

Thanks! When I was typing/working, there were only 3 pages. Found it after the post.
You're welcome:tup:

I shall when I get my new tv. With the announcement that PS3 will support the new Blu-Ray 3D spec I'm wondering if I should wait or not and grab a 3D supported tv instead!

To download this I require the following key things:

- PS3
- TV
- Router
- Phone line
- Broadband
- Power
- Cables
- Property to house it all

Therefore I have paid for it.

I'm sick of people saying they are sick of people saying they are fed up with waiting. People can express their views however and whenever they like. Fact is, this game has been way too long in development, and is looking like it could be an epic fail.

I've been on these boards for about 3 hours and I already dislike you. You did not purchase the game. You paid for you internet, therefore you receive internet. You paid for the rest of your "equipment", and you receive them in whatever form they may take as a service, personal item etc.

Did you purchase the demo? Did you SPEND MONEY obtaining it? Did it prompt you for a payment as you downloaded it? No. Therefore it is free. Thats like saying fertilising my front lawn costs $6000 because you need the grass first. -_-

You're a dandy flower <3

Who gives a monkey's chuff!!!!!!

Both cars drive like the love child of gt4 and project gotham. Absolutly amazing.

If this is what we have to look forward to in march/april/may/june/july/august (delete as appropraite) 2010. We will all be happy.

At the end of the day, it's the game that counts, not how it looks.

With regard to the lackluster graphics, can anyone confirm that the game is infact running at full 1080p. If we all remember, Prologue was not quite 1080p, they skimped on either the vertical or horizontal resolution (i cant remember)… But, Kaz has said many times that GT5, will be full 1080p (1920×1080)… if this demo has the same cheated 1080p that Prologue had… that is a pretty good indication that the graphics we see today are actually NOT GT5’s graphics engine.

I share your view in respects with the Graphics look dumbed down. This is a 200 MB demo. And a Blu-ray disc can hold upto 50 gigs with two layers (Blu-ray). One would hope that the graphics would be improved from GT5P to GT5.

When playing last night I noticed that the graphics were not the same as GT5P. At least my first impression was this. After playing GT5P for almost two years, I have begun to see the various imperfections in the GT5P graphics. In other words, they don't look as good as when I first saw the game. I see the same imperfections in the screen on this demo, only this time I thought it looked more noticeable. It would be interesting to see someone prove this. Or disprove.

I will share this though, I have a 60hz HDTV that is 1080i. Which can make a difference, because interlacing doesn't look as good as progressive scanning. Has anyone experienced this?

This is for discussion, I am not cutting down GT graphics, because the truth is they do look great, but they are not perfect.

If you have a 1080i tv and Prologue was sort of "1080i made to look 1080p" you should not see much difference even if this demo is real 1080p, since you'll be seeing it in 1080i anyway (hope it made sense :s)

This in terms of resolution, interlaced/progressive. Textures are a different subject.

Hey man, if you can output the visuals at 720p rather than 1080i, was a vast improvement for me.

Can you people do me a favor please? Find me a racing game that looks better than this demo. Don't limit yourselves to consoles, you can try the PC too.

NFS Shift on PC is probably the closest competitor, but everything in the background is exaggerated so where it might look nicer it certainly isn't as realistic.

I have the PC version and while the environments are better sometimes (though not as realistic looking) the cars look like total crap compared to GT5P or this demo.

The Graphics of the time trial suck. Anyone denying this is definitely lying to themselves.

But, this demo looks worse than all the Tokyo Track footage we've seen. Everything including the cubemaps for the reflections seem low polygon, there is no grass, the people... oh man the people. The HDR lighting is terrible, it takes a second to catch up when you switch views, it pops from dark to bright.

I can't imagine this being PD's 5 year work, when the other "older" demo's look ages ahead. So, I'm going to go ahead and imagine that PD isn't trying to pull a turn10 with the visuals of the game. That this demo is just for the time trial, and physics. Which I believe PD said it was.

Its 200mb. People are definitely jumping to conclusions because this is the newest GT related demo released to the public.

Fact is, this game looks like crap, and it is NOT just because of the track in question. I have seen this track on the TV many times, and realistic this is not. Far to flat and bland. If you think the final game will be significantly better...haha!! As for the controls...

While I agree the track isn't as good, saying it looks like crap is straight up retarded. The cars exterior is immaculate, and a LOT better than Prologue for only being one car one track 200mb demo

I fail to see how they are any worse than prologue. Compare this track to daytona or HSR. It's pretty much the same.

I do find it odd how the headlights of the 370z are low detailed compared to what I saw on prologue though. It could be an early build with new physics but I don't know... to me people we just had lunatic expectations.

I kinda listed the reasons. Don't confuse me for some troll of GT or anything(not saying you are). The lighting is different than prologue, for example: In prologue you can drive in front of a chain link fence, and have the shadows projected on the vehicle. Doesn't happen at all in this demo.

My comments aren't directed to the track specifically, but overall the textures are definitely lower resolution. Even the decals on the vehicles are blurry in the menu graphics. The lighting is lower quality as well, the effect im talking about is the exposure effect. The conversion from light to darker areas. In the demo its illustrated by swapping the views, and watching the brightness pops. In HSR, once you come out of that tunnel, its as smooth as the day is long.

and again, I am an avid prologue player. This demo just isn't up to par with what I've seen in GT5p, which isn't really expected considering the uncompressed size.

Lets just say, I doubt the final game will look like the demo. Because the Tokyo Track looks beyond this x10000.

For me, this is 201 MB, seems PD made it small so that people can try it out for Time Trial, no need for flashy everything.
