My favorite sound is my truck's startup. Tra-tra-ta-ta-vrooooooom.

Anything less than 4-cylinders: Horrible.
Anything with a supercharger: Awesome.
Diesels: WAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWA; horrible noise.
Hybrids: Stupid.
Electrics: ...
I4: Okay.
I4 Turbo: Horrible.
I5: Never paid attention to one.
V6: Awesome.
V6 Turbo: Awesome.
I6: Okay.
H6: Bad.
H6 Turbo: Okay.
V8: Okay.
V8 Turbo: Good.
V10: Epic.
V12: Good.
V12 Turbo: Awesome.
Over 12 Cylinders: Epic.

How I see it.

My favorite sound is my truck's startup (with starter sound and varying RPM's.) Ererererer VBROOOOAR -blub - blub -blub -blub -blub-blub VROAReeeRRRRRRRRRRRR bluub bluub bluub bluub.

Anything less than 4-cylinders: Awesome. Both 2 and 4 stroke engines.
Anything with a supercharger: Depends on the engine.
Diesels: WAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWA, *revs build* POP POP POP POP POP, meh.
Hybrids: Stupid.
Electrics: Stupider.
I4: Horrendous.
I4 Turbo: Still horrendous.
I5: Bad.
V6: Meh. Depends on the exhaust setup. Keep the RPM's under 3,000.
V6 Turbo: Same as above.
I6: Old I6's sound badass. Like big block V8's under 3,000rpm.
H6: Never heard.
H6 Turbo: Never heard.
V8: OMG GOD THIS THING IS AMAZING. Nothing beats this. Especially OHV's.
V8 Turbo: Meh. Not a big turbo fan.
V10: Ew.
V12: Ew.
V12 Turbo: Ew.
Over 12 Cylinders: EEW.

Fixed. Anything not a V8 sounds like it's trying too hard. Laughable even. They just sound so ridiculously dumb.

I might be biased against V8's- the only one I hear regularly is in my mom's Lexus, and there is so much insulation in it that you barely hear the engine while driving. Don't care for the idle noise from outside the car though.

Oh hold up- I forgot Rotary engines. Those are awesome- hearing a Mazda 787B will change your life. I hope they make a comeback.

I love everything about my dad's Porsche 911 other than the sounds (and the 3M carbon-wrapped trunk cover). Two sounds in paticular bother me: it's idle tone, which is a low, harsh-sounding rumble, and the sound it makes when I close the door: "Ka-thung. Whe-ew." The second part of that would be the window raising a half-inch into the seal for better... sealation.

Other than that it's a fantastic car.

Most old Mustang's sound similar.

This highlights why I'd have an Enzo or 599 over a LaFerrari, F12 or 599 GTO. The recent V12s all sound too 'fruity' and OTT instead of raw like the Enzo.

I'm sorry I can't hear you over the sound of 12 glorious cylinders:

Don't get me wrong, nothing sounds better than a good V8 to me, but the shortsightedness of the comment was something else.

Meh. Don't find it appealing at all.

A proper eight cylinder engine. Porsche 908/3 3 litre flat eight.

Those downshifts!

Also, Slash must be the member with the most narrow taste in engine sounds on GTP.
^This. When I see that you're the most recent post in this thread I don't even bother opening it because it's either a Mustang with open headers or some type of Ford truck with open headers.

And I know I'm guilty of posting a lot of BMW related stuff, but I'll at least acknowledge that there are some really great engines out there.
Some of my other favorites.

The only diesels that make a "popping" noise are the atrocious sounding V8 diesels, Powerstrokes and Duramaxes. This is how a real diesel should sound. :D

I don't necessarily think those engines are bad, and for what they are, sound quite decent, but they just don't appeal to me the way a big effin' V8 does.

I also see Slash's puny V8's and raise an inline 6. Start the video at 1:02 to see the truck that is running our engine.
