I'm not saying to suppress any opinions - just that the negativity shouldn't be broadcasted in the "Hottest threads" thing on the home page of GTP.

That is exactly what you're saying though lol.

People have issues with GT. it's a hot topic, and has been for a number of years now. All views positive and negative should be heard. Hiding the negative critisims doesn't do anyone any favours.... How can you expect one to progress without being about to identify one's flaws?

The majority of buyers will be disappointed to find out that this game is catered more to people with 1,000$ racing setups than them.
Nope.
GT has always supported pad users very well. Obviously you are now referring to pc sims because the PS4 supported wheel + stand can be bought at half of the price you suggest. Why so bitter?

To be fair, a basic wheel setup for PS4 is now significantly more expensive than a basic wheel setup for a PC. A DFGT is still a totally capable wheel, and they're still around for very, very cheap.

It's sort of a shame that the console makers went this route with overpriced accessories. It's not as expensive as some people would make it sound to get a wheel setup on PS4, but it's not cheap either. I mean, for the price I paid for my DFGT, CSR and Elite pedals I could probably get a decent PS4 setup, but it sucks that I should have to because all that gear is totally fine.

Slightly off topic but I just want to add something which could be helpful if you are looking to upgrade.

I was forced to upgrade my wheel when I went from my PS3 to the XBone and found myself with yet another issue. I got a DFGT for GT6 and with it I also got a Playseat Alcantara, now that rig was perfectly fine for the amount of torque that the DFGT produced, but when I got my Thrustmaster TX wheel I found that the Playseat was not strong enough and would flex.

The amount of flex didn't seem to be much of a worry because I wasn't that fast so I wasn't carrying much speed through the corners plus I never set the FFB beyond 70% strength, now that I've gotten faster over time I find that the wheel really wrestles with you as you try to go fast through the turns and the amount of flex is just unbearable and I think I will definitely be needing a much stronger rig.

Mind you there's slightly cheaper T150 available now that produces less torque although on ISR they said both of those wheels (xbone and ps4 versions) don't have screw holes on the base so they can't be hard mounted. Sorry again but I just wanted to point out how one thing can cause other unexpected issues. I'm hoping that MS and Sony will keep compatibility of peripherals when they release their next generation of consoles (not Scorpio/Neo but PS5 and stuff) otherwise that that will be it for me and I will go to PC for good.

Now in regards to GTS I don't think I can whine much, having a small car roaster or not having dynamic weather doesn't phase me at all. What I am seeing though is that it is looking to be a "Meh" kind of game, not seriously bad, not exceptionally good, just regular. Just like those kind of games come and go every year and hardly get any notice, the difference will be that it will have GT on the cover and PD will certainly have quite a nice budget to promote it. Nothing special in my books.

Supported pad users in terms of playability. In terms of who dominates TT's it's overwhelmingly wheel users. By a massive margin.

Less than half in fact
Please show me where you can buy a PS4, a supported force-feedback wheel, and a stand for less than $500. He is Canadian by the way so Canadian dollars please.
True. But casuals don't care about geting in the "top 1000" in leaderboards.
Maybe, maybe not. But I interpret the phrase "who the game caters to as to" as who has the advantage on the track and in the past that was definitely wheel users. Maybe that will change with the whole 7 to 77 marketing tag.

According to everything I have seen so far, there are good indicators suggesting GTS will leave important trademarks of older GT titles. New career approach and various important details highlighted in trailers seem to be very reluctant in giving GT series chance to distinguish itself from other racing games like it could in past. I hope the series won't lose identity with GTS.

Besides, I noticed they still keep Soft-Medium-Hard tire levels. Since new games are capable of summoning rain, it would be more convenient and simpler to use Slick-Intermediate-Rain tire levels. While the old system was great back in its days with no changeable weather, I think it does not matches the reality.

I either want the car wear/maintenance silliness gone, or for there to be actual consequences for ingnoring it. Throwing a connecting rod for example. Since 3 the feature has bugged me. In 1 and 2 I figured your crew handled these things for you before each event. Nah, the driver has to do it... Just having a maintenance deduction after each event with a sliding scale would be more sensible imo.

Yea, tons more to fix I know...

Very agree. Most series seem to use spec tyres these days, so Slick-Intermediate-Rain would seem far more appropriate. For "road" cars like the MX5 perhaps have a high performance road legal tyre, as that would probably be what they would run on. But Soft-Medium-Hard seems like a relic of days past.

I also think both GT and Forza are missing a trick by not getting actual tyre manufacturer names in there. But perhaps its difficult to convince the manufacturers that everyone's tyres should have equivalent performance.

Well, you can justify the tire grades because they exist in Formula 1. IIRC, they use Ultra Soft and Soft as their main compounds but are allowed to choose what grade they want.

Hence why I said most series. Using F1 tyre grades doesn't make sense when a game doesn't even include any open wheelers.

F1 actually has five grades of tyres plus intermediates and wets, but they only take three to each event and there's a complex system of which they are allowed to use and how many sets. Using the F1 system would just confuse the bollocks out of most players.

Regardless of what tyre choices they use I'd like to see them implement full damage and have it on all the time (could be off for entry level series or whatever the lower leagues will be). A driver should suffer the consequences of poor or aggressive driving. Flat spots if they lock out their brakes, suffering heavy vibration from said flat spots, punctures for hitting the kerb like an animal, stuff like that.

I think that was one of the major problems of the races I saw at the London unveiling show, drivers were being overly aggressive, dive bombing and just didn't look real because there were no consequences to their actions.

One small detail that would increase modifying options in GT is adding sponsor banners on windows, bumpers and other parts of your car, similar to system in Kaido Racer series (image below).

After all, Polyphony should still have rights on wheel manufacturer banners they have been using in GT Auto shops since GT2. Why not use them since they are all well modeled, they just need to be re-scaled.

GRP is a nice game thou. just saying lol

I would be very sad if Gran Turismo Sport was the new model of Gran Turismo. I think Gran Turismo Sport however is an interim game to kill time in between Gran Turismo 6 and 7. I don't think Polyphony would be that ill-advised to scrap a model that worked, which was all the previous Gran Turismos.

If GTS' livery editor is up to par with the competition, than we can very well get things like that with ease from our very own community. Forza is testament to that, as any thing someone can think of, or see, can be made with its in game editor.

I decided I wont be buying GTS.

Im not supporting 'prologue' culture, or the lack of a real single player campaign, or the steps backwards in gameplay, like the absence of changing time of day and weather. The only thing that interests me about the game is the livery editor and driving score, but those are hardly good enough reasons to buy a game and drop 100 hours on it.

Instead, I'll be racing Forza Horizon 3 this fall.

Im not giving up on GT as a whole, but I have given up on GTS

I think Gran Turismo Sport is like a better than prologue game, and a game to set the foundation for other Gran Turismo games on the PS4. Gran Turismo Sport is truly missing a truckload of things from previous games. There is no way in my mind it is THE Gran Turismo 7 game that we all expected.

It's missing

  • the wide selection of cars
  • all the original and most world, city and dirt and snow tracks.
  • the career mode
  • the tune shop
  • missing rally events and cars
  • Small things like wheel shop and car wash
  • dynamic weather and time

Gran Turismo Sport is a undoubtedly pretty looking game, and has very realistic physics. However, it is missing so many important elements from previous Gran Turismo games, it is truly nothing more than a prologue plus game. At $60.00 is not a compelling racing simulator at all, especially when you look at other full fledged, very comparable racing sims like Forza 6.

How is this necessarily a bad thing? It just seems like nitpicking for a game focused on FIA-style events.
I can't seem to see where he said it was necessarily a bad thing. He's not even complaining about the game, really.
