The new Tokio track is based on real roads in Tokyo often idee for street racing...
So PD invented nothing this case...

Yeah, except even if it uses a 1:1 copy of Tokyo roads, they've still chosen a horribly boring part of the city to host the track. So they did "invent" an incredibly uninspiring street circuit.

I could quite easily draw up a circuit in my small local town, using real roads, that would be as bland and boring as the Tokyo Expressway circuit in GTS, but even though I would be following real roads, it'd still be my fault for choosing such a bland route when there are amazing Nurburgring like roads less than an hour from my house that I could have used instead...

A 1:1 copy of Wangan is seriously exciting for some, me for example, I prefer it over tracks like Hockenheim ( if I have to choose either one ). We have different life background, experiences and preferences. I was into street racing from teenager, and always have dreamed of doing a wangan race in Tokyo, something like R32 GTR with 700-800+PS, doing sustained 300+kmh run without breaking a sweat ( the tuning/build to achieve this was extraordinary for road cars in 90's on road legal tires ) :P, wangan racing became sort of legend ( started as far 80's, 280ZX, DR30 doing wangan )

Tokyo Extreme Racer was my only fix back in PS2 days :(

This is just too much now, I just have to say something here.

I am of the the complete opposite view. Who wouldn't swap Midfield for say Hockenheim or High Speed Ring for COTA? I would absolutely love all the fictional tracks to be dumped and only have real world circuits.

There is certainly enough of them to fill any game. There is at least 10 good ones from just Australia! The list of real world great circuits (past and present) is huge, I see no need for adding fictional ones.

<Flame suit: ON >

I have to disagree with getting rid of all fictional tracks. A lot of these original tracks, especially the ones that have been around since GT1, are staples of the series. IMO, they are part of what makes GT unique. Without them, GT just becomes closer to being like any other racing game.

That being said, I do think that ever since GT5, PD has been losing their edge when it comes to making original tracks. I would gladly give up Cape Ring and Neo Rome Circuit for something else, real or otherwise.

I agree. I'd love to keep the good original tracks, because I think they make Gran Turismo special. I'd like to see them updated, because there's a lot of invisible walls and barriers next to the track that don't necessarily need to exist now that we've moved beyond PS1 and PS2 hardware. But they're fundamentally good tracks that I think bring a lot to the game.

On the other hand, there are some stinkers that should be ditched. Most of the modern ones, if I'm honest. Eiger is good, but most of the rest of the PS3 era stuff is pretty bad.

Emulating Wangan is cool. Except the layout for Tokyo Expressway in GTS just blandly sucks.

Just play some InitialD or WMMT to see what exciting layout looks like.

Every played tokyo extreme racer ? Imagine a realistic physics/sound/damage in that game.

I switched to Xbox 2 years back, and man i gotta say GT Sport looks epic. I`ll finally be returning to PlayStation full time to get back on track with GT in December. GT Sport is looking amazing so far, shame that in all the demos we havent seen the 3rd person car view yet. Still waiting for that, it would be even better if it went back to like it was back in GT3 or GT4 where the camera didn't stick right to the car, like where it does in GT5/GT6.

Illegal street racing isn't remotely interesting to me. It's usually just glorified drag racing on toll roads between rich kids with no respect for others. Even ignoring my distaste for illegal street racing, the Tokyo circuit in GTS is incredibly bland and dull, to the point I'd rather have the awful Valencia street circuit that F1 used for a few years. That's just me though.

Not to mention that illegal street racing is literally the polar opposite of what the FIA is all about. I'm surprised that the Tokyo circuit is actually in this game to begin with. Trying to shape motorsport for the next 100 years...

Glorified drag racing ? Rich kids ? See, we already worlds apart from knowledge and point of view on wangan :) To each of their own, but for me street racing was my part of my life once. I won't say more about it, but those who have done it, it's not just drag racing or rich kids.

You must have missed the bit where I said "usually". Illegal street racing is quite simply stupid. There's nothing cool about it, it just endangers innocent people and is the leading cause of the bad reputation car enthusiasts have with the general population. Take that **** to the track.

I didn't ask for illegal street racing in GTS, did I ? I don't think possible to classify racing inside a game to be "illegal" in nature  There's no police or other motorist on the road in GTS, it's just empty road sealed for racing, a wangan track may not be cool for some, not for me. You are also too late for your advice, I don't do that anymore ( I never said it's cool either, my involvement back then was more in setting up the cars/test drive ) The only way for me to have a semblance of wangan racing is in games, so if GTS have Tokyo roads for racing, I'm fine with it.

You're romanticising illegal street racing with your comments about it. I never claimed you were asking for it in a game, so where you got that idea from is beyond me. I said it's not cool, which you heavily implied you think it is, by saying you always dreamed of it and used to do it, and that having popular routes used by illegal street racers would be "exciting" in a racing sim.

The last thing PD needs to be doing is glorifying illegal street racing in their new GT game, especially with the FIA being involved.

You are free to criticize my past if you wish, but it's already a past. I shared what I like and wants ( I find Tokyo track in GTS exciting as it reminds me of wangan racing, is that wrong ? ), it happens to be different than yours. I also understand your stance on illegal street racing, I have encountered this many times in my life.

Many people that I know hated Isle of Man event, they said it's too dangerous and cause many deaths, should be illegal or banned, but I had totally the opposite view, and they looked down on me because of of it. Similar things happen when they knew about my past in street racing. I don't feel bad about it, I can accept their opposing view ( no matter what's right or wrong )

PD do not glorify illegal street racing with Tokyo track in GTS, Tokyo Extreme Racer, The Fast and The Furious game, GTA and NFS ( MW, Carbon, Underground ) on the other hand ...

How do you come to the conclusion that PD are glorifying illegal street racing?
There are many races around the world held on streets.
So what makes this Tokyo track 'illegal'?

The Isle of Man event, like any event held on closed roads, is completely different to Illegal street racing. Yes it's dangerous, but the competitors and spectators alike know exactly what they're getting into. Innocent road users and bystanders aren't consenting to idiots tearing through open public roads putting them at risk. The two are completely different.

I never said that track was "illegal" or that PD were glorifying street racing, I simply said, in response to Ridox saying he wants popular illegal street racing routes introduced to GT, that PD doesn't need to be glorifying it. Saying they shouldn't do something isn't the same as saying they already are...

Also, if you read the conversation, you'd see I'm talking specifically about illegal street racing, not sanctioned motorsport events using closed off public roads...

I see you just don't like me writing about my past, fondness of street racing and my dream doing wangan race, I think I'll stop here :) I understand your dislike on the Tokyo track, being dull/bland.

Anyone know if the Tokyo track will be available in several layout ? Shorter versions ? or is it just one long track ? A point to point Tokyo layout will be great :D

It's all up to the online community on the perspective as to whether or not it's legal or illegal racing on that course.

Take the GT6 race report stories for example.

I don't care what you write about your life, I made my point perfectly clear on what I dislike, and it's because of some of the stuff I've seen happen as a result of the moronic actions of people who think it's cool to race each other on public roads. I also have two retired police officers in the family who suffer severe anxiety and depression due to seeing far worse things than I have.

I've got nothing against someone going out to deserted country roads, where seeing other cars is rare, and there are no bystanders, and having a bit of fun, within reason (not a good idea to race multiple cars, or cut across blind corners on the wrong side of the road, etc.), but most street racing is done by morons who don't give a **** what the consequences are, and have no respect for others. That's the last I'll say about it.

BTW on street racing and GT... It's not the first time that PD uses tracks that are born as street racing ones...
the Tokyo street track from GT5/6 is one of them...

So, after soaking in a tonne of new info about the game and seeing some rumours I have come to this conclusion:

"GT Sport, the game none of us asked for, and the one with the concepts we're now stuck with that no one likes for the rest of GT's history."

Seeing as there is no more GT7, there might as well be no more future for the Gran Turismo series. GT will never be the same again, since Kaz announced that GT7 is Sport.

*Copyright someone else on GTP, but it would have been impossible to do a search on it :D

But hey, GT isn't entirely dead. Come to Forza and you'll regain that GT spirit in both Motorsport & Horizon! :D
True that, they optimized the GT formula where PD have neglected it over the years. Shame FM went more to the simcade route lately, but that's to be expected as it needs to cater to the masses.

I loved the concept of Horizon for that matter, might even pick up a cheap Xbone in a couple of years just to be able to play it.

Agreed.

Oh btw, you can also play FH3 on PC as well, as it's crossplay between the Xbox platform and PC. 👍 So you may not need to pick up an XBone after all if you have a strong enough PC to play FH3 (just don't know the specs of the game yet, hopefully it's not too massive like FM6). :D
