It's 1996. Larbre Competition have just purchased McLaren F1 GTR #007R second hand to replace their aged and outgunned Porsche 911 GT2s, with plans to enter Le Mans with the new car. But before taking on Le Mans, Larbre wants to take on America, and the McLaren F1 GTR debuts on American soil at the 1996 Rolex 24 at Daytona, knowing it is a potent weapon for the race victory.
A new deal has been signed with Sony to bring PlayStation onboard, launched only a few months ago in the United States and still on everyone's mind. Sony of America's unusual advertising campaign promising that U R NOT E and that ENOS LIVES which bewilders the public, but now that they have their hands on the system, they know the capabilities of this gaming revolution. Larbre proudly furthers the American advertising campaign with the bold McLaren, backed by Sony's recently acquired Psygnosis Studios and Larbre's benefactor, Jean-Luc Chereau.
(In reality, Larbre's McLaren F1 GTR never ended up racing at Le Mans or anywhere in 1996, and was secretly sold the car to Mercedes-Benz. Larbre went on to run PlayStation-sponsored Porsches in 1997 and 1998.)
