A couple of nights ago I made a recreation of the TT LM Edition from GT2. It understeers just like the GT2 Version with a mid range Turbo from a 180SX. And, it uses the Drivetrain from the Abt TT R.

It’s pretty nice I’ll post photos later.

As an update to this thread: I've been adding and hybriding cars here and there. Started off a few brand-new games. I'm one of the 'realist' players, I guess. I made a '89 Mitsubishi Galant ES for instance, to compete more fairly with beginner B-spec races. Dropped a Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg engine in, so it went from about 202 hp to 167. Also made it into a front-drive. All of this is similar to what could happen in real-life (sort of). Galants were either front drive or AWD, and there were lots of different engines available. The turbo engine that the Galant engine comes with merely happens to be the most powerful, I think. Which makes sense because Mitsubishi / PD would not want to offer anything but the best, or close to the best.
Did you do some chassis swap as well? That will also make the handling of your car better, as long as you choose one from a race car.

Is it possible to change the RPM limits on an engine? I have a 900 horsepower BMW S85 V10 engine swapped into the Formula Gran Turismo chassis, and I want to increase its RPM limit to 18k to simulate an old F1 car.

I think it's not possible through normal circumstances. But doing some engine upgrades, like upgrading Stages 1-3, can increase the overall engine redline.

There's also Turbo Level 1-5 and engine level 1 through 5 (if the car has that upgrade by chance).

I think there are 3 kinds of players of Grand Turismo. (1) Gamers who like to compete against other gamers giving little attention to additional features offered in Gran Turismo. (2) Motorheads that love everything to do with horsepower and style who like to tune or modify their cars, to attain more cars to tune and modify. (3) Amateur racers who like to use GT as a kind of simulator to learn things and supplement their real life activities such as learning track layouts or how different settings affect performance.

I am thinking there is also a fourth type of player: those who merely B34t the game, sometimes trying to get as many trophies as they can, before moving on to the next game. Online play has probably kept a lot of these gamers from just moving on.

I am definitely a mix of 2 and 3, but I tune within certain limits. I won't just bring something fully-tuned into the Sunday Cup, for instance. I am not interested in just defeating races, I like using the minimum amount of tuning I can to get by, I want to be challenged. I also like to know as much about the car I'm driving as I can read. Even in an Alto Works or whatever, I want to know the history of this car, the sort of buyer who drives one, its real-life driving capabilities, and so on.

My brother is also a mix of 2 and 3, he likes to have everything but only to have more cars to take around the Nurburgring. He has ran this track almost exclusively for hours on end since GT4 and knows every inch of the track, constantly racing his own ghost to improve his time. I suggested he enter some online races but he isn't interested in competing only in escaping into his zone of Nurburgring. I think he's crazy but he is very good at that track. Just when I think he's going to go careening off into the grass, he wiggles his car back onto the line and still manages to beat his own time again. Then watches his replay to look for places he can do better. I guess everyone has their favorite track, I like Monaco a lot and Laguna, but I gotta have that garage full of cars in my favorite colors or else.

I'd say I was a mix of 1 & 3. I certainly don't consider myself a gamer, as I generally dislike 99% of games out there. I consider myself a sim-racer, & only like racing against real people (I'm not a real race driver, although I have driven some real race cars before). GT5's Shuffle racing was the pinnacle of online competition for me, & when they closed the servers my interest in GT5 went down to zero. However, I love watching replays of online racing as much as racing itself, so have been rediscovering some of my best performances in GT5 & GT6 recently. I'm not a petrol head in any way shape or form, I have almost no interest in cars, apart from how nice some of them look. I also love the graphical bling in GT games, the cool looking showcases & main screen demos etc. I can certainly understand the obsession with the Nord, as I have one myself; I've driven thousands of miles in it from GT4 through GT6. I think that's what's great about GT games, they attract a wide range of people with diverse interests.

The only thing that bothered me about GT5 was that they were so paranoid about online play being successful, that they restricted everything in the game making it hard to have any fun at all offline. There was more content than any other GT title yet it took years of grinding to access even half of it. Meanwhile they left gaping holes in the online play which leads me to believe they were focusing on the wrong areas. Part of the reason I never bought GT6 is because all the stuff it took me 5 years to earn was unlocked for everyone in GT6 which means they realized their mistake but want to pretend that they didn't. Like the used car dealership, some cars were so hard to get it would take years to catch one of them for sale. Lord forbid we own two of the same car, because that's cheating! Then you can buy any used car you want from the dealer in GT6 like it's nothing. So I'm curious about GT6 now, was there an online dealer like GT5? Because that would seem less attractive since you can find the cars you want without one. Also what about Helmets and Outfits? Are those available also? It took me a LONG time to get them all in GT5. A lot of players did not. My thinking is I'd rather have GT5 the way I wanted it rather than play GT6 if half the goodies from GT5 are gone away. I'd rather have the hidden portion of XXRX rather than a moon buggy. Whats wrong with those people anyways? (If I get GT6 will they suspend my online play for GT5? LMBO)

Nope, every car was available from the get go, no strings attached. The only problem I have for Gran Turismo 6 was the beginning start, along with Sport. You cannot buy your first vehicle to be different, thus your play style would change.

You can buy some in GT6, costs a lot in some cases but pretty good feature compared to randomly getting outfits.

The only down side to GT6 is that players can't really do any special things regarding the hybrid situation. Which is sad because some turbos/Engine tunes do effect the power curve of the car in a significant way. But, GT5 is a nicer substitute because of how much you can do.

After several years of GT5, a PS3 and a Futuretonics wheel/pedals being unopened from their original boxes, I am now retired and have the time to get the GT5 working.
So, sort of like Christmas day...I got it all working last week. Is what i found first, (I had already connected the PS3 to my wifi) GT5 said it was too far out of date, and it needed to update before it would fire up. I recall leaving it for a few hours while it updated itself from the original boxed platinum version to something else. Because the PS3 has an 80GB drive, I said to use the internal drive, rather than a thumb drive.
How do I find the current GT5 version Number it updated itself to?
Can I still get the Garage Editor 1.3.1?
If I need to, Is there a way to wind back the update to a GT5 update suitable to the GE?

As a 70+guy, it is all rather fun working through licences and Events. But, as an x mechanic, I like the under hood GE prospect.

Any advice regarding above and or tactics would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations! Deleting the game files will downgrade your GT5 and take you to the desired version. However, it might take a while to do that but if you already have Spec 2.0 for GT5, it will be much easier already. I remember going past the update there with 470mb although I'm not sure exactly what version it was but after that, a few updates and I was already in 2.11. You can check by stopping the update and looking at the GT5 game data you have in your HD. The version your game currently is in will show there so you should be able to see it. Good luck.

GTV. Thanks for the reply. OK, so that means by deleting all GT5 game files on my PS3 will take my GT5 back to the original load version, and I will need to start the process of obtaining my licences and experience etc. I then start the update process again, but..keep checking the game data to see where it is at and stop at 2.11. OK will attack that this week end.
Is there a 'reliable' place to download GE 1.3.1? I think I read some where on this thread, there was no manual with the GE 1.3.1

Don’t delete your save data. Your save data can work on all versions . 2.11 is Update 23 on the original disc.

I have sent you a link via PM.

Ummm, ok I have been looking at my PS3 system. I can see where the PS3 has updated itself to 3.56. I have no idea where to find the GT5 version number. I have not updated it at all...to my knowledge.
I also had a look for game files? I did manage to 'backup' the PS3 to a file on a thumb drive. It created a structure like PS3>EXPORT>BACKUP>12DIGIT NUMBER. over 5 archive files consuming 6.56GB

I suspect I need to find another 'smaller' data file for the GE to work? Looking about, I could not find any. I am sure it is staring me in the face.

My PC will not read the GT5 disc to see what files are on it.

Like what I have mentioned earlier, you can see the game's version by looking at the game files/data of the game which is there in the menu of the system.

Press on game data utility, once in there, then press on triangle to find it.

ok, guys, thanks for help. Sorry to be a pain. I find this stuff incredibly frustrating. My GT is version 1.04.

When I had a look at gran Turismo.com, they said... " press the PS button and quit the game. The game will be updated automatically when you restart it with your PS3™ system connected to the internet". Does this mean PS will update the PS3 to the latest patch? Is there a way I can stop the update at 2.11? The manual refers on page 28 to updates.

Now, I need to sort out the saved game file for GE to work its magic. . Obviously, the game file I saved is a monster backup of the system and too large. Clicking all the links under the 'game' tab, I do not see a saved game file, other than the monster. Is this because I have my games saved to the hard drive and not a thumb drive? Ummm, reading the manual. It refers to creating "internal memory cards" (page 20/21) I did nothing like this, so is this why I get no saved game data?

Yes you can and when you get the updates downloading, when the update reaches 13 I think press start then press O on your controller to stop further updates. Then go to the menu of the system and then find your game data utility, press game data utility, once in there then press on triangle to find what update version you are on. If you are on 2.11 just disconnect from the internet.

Edit: You can find your GT5 save here in the Save Data Utility.

Thanks fordlaser. On Monday, I will get the PS3 hooked up with a cat6 cable rather than wifi(today, being a weekend, only runs at 37%), and a hard cable will give me more control over the update connection, as well as more grunt. Wife will not take too kindly to pulling the plug on wifi.

Did you see my second question...regarding the PS3 internal memory cards? Do I need to do anything?

Your GT5 save should be in the Save Data Utility, all you need is a USB to copy it to the device, and the put the USB in your PC.

I will get my PS3 internet connection working better next week and update GT5, The manual says not to interrupt the update process or dire things may happen, which sort of sounds obvious. but in this case, it has to be interupted to stop at 2.11...Anyway, I will report back when net working a tad better.

Ok.

That seems to be the XL Edition, I have that. The original disc has more updates.

Are you saying on the original GT5 disc purchased in 2010?, there are updates on it? I saw your earlier comment, " Don’t delete your save data. Your save data can work on all versions . 2.11 is Update 23 on the original disc" As I can't see the original disc on my pc, unable to see what is there.

When I went looking for my game data, I made a 'backdup' of my whole machine data on a thumb drive. Is there a difference between copy and backup? If so, maybe why I have such a large save on my thumb drive. I notice youtube show the save file as xxxxx-game, and not very large, while mine says PS3>EXPORT>BACKUP>12DIGIT NUMBER. When I introduce the thumb drive data to GE, it is not interested. Umm, need to have a further investigation.

GT5 disc purchased in 2010?
Yeah, GT5 should have with that disc 24 to 26 updates if I remember correctly. I original had GT5 back in 2010 got the XL in 2013.

Also you should have PS3/SAVEDATA/BCUS-98114 folder within that save or else you won't be able to edit your data.
