My whine? Please stop having some of the stupid Japanese cars that nobody will ever drive. Have some cool cars that people like and all but just make sure that the cars you have are the cars people want to drive. I'm sick of seeing the 'premiumizing' of all the cars as a massive job that might never happen, but if you take away the unnecessary cars, it isn't that big of a job. Anyway, I'm contemplating a switch to Forza, The cars there are what I want to drive and all are 'premium'.

Yes, until you or one of your friends wants to create an online racing league. Say a pal wants to do just that. He gets GT6, fires it up, checks out the online tools... say it doesn't have a Livery Editor. He begins grouching, and you tell him, "But look, you have a number plate and license plates which you can put 'RACYROO' on. What more do you need?"

I don't think he will be too charmed by that. ;)
Guess what? I was speaking for myself and how I feel not every GT friend that I have.

You don't know, or get to decide what other people want to drive.

To many, GT eclectic car list is a big part of the appeal.

Then you haven't been paying attention. You wanna say that it needs improvement or complain about how slow or timid it is or whatever, fine; but when you imply that it is barely any better than that of GT4 of all games you just weaken your argument.

I do speak the language. ;)

And your post was a perfect way to illustrate how some of the fans would react if your way was what we got in GT6. However, this is the whining thread in which people vent their spleens about Gran Turismo and Polyphony, like strider193's post above. I should know better and not take things too seriously in here, but I was dead tired last night, so I hope you'll excuse me for a lapse of reason.

And I have to concur with Tornado. The bots in GT5 may be a little slow in A-Spec Mode, but they aren't the Tomahawk Cruise Cars of GT4. PD is making progress. Slowly but surely...

GT5's AI is far, far better than GT4's could ever dream of.
I totally agree on GT4 the AI was very annoying always trying to stay on the racing line all the way around the track. If you tried to pass and that pass was on the racing line as you got beside them they would hit you almost every time.

On GT5 I have several times attempted a pass where on GT4 the AI would have hit me but on GT5 the AI car would start to move over then adjust to avoid contact. This never happened on GT4. I have also had the AI slam me on purpose in GT5 after me having slammed the AI, it was like the AI got mad and retaliated. Never happened in GT4.

I think the AI in GT5 is a bit like Bob in GT5 where they get more or less aggressive based on what is going on in the race and also get faster or slower based on race conditions.

The Ai could still be a lot better but I think it is a huge step up from GT4.

And who is to decide which cars are "stupid japanese cars that nobody will ever drive"?

How is this for an excuse?

"We can probably sell 10,000,000+ units and including DLC, probably generate $1Billion in revenue, all the while letting the PS4 install base grow so we can launch GT7 in 2 years and make another $1Billion".

Makes perfect sense to me.
The 1Billion part not that much...

I don't think many will argue that point...but I don't think two F1 cars from 2 different years trumps a full grid of cars, even if it is IndyCar.
Are they going to have a full grid of indy cars or will it be like they did with Nascar and just have a couple of generic cars?

In any case nice to see they finally have some sort of open wheel car. I am curious how they will perform seeing that many of the cars in Forza are a bit odd on the performance level some higher some lower than they should be and many quite a bit different from one game release to the next.

...and many quite a bit different from one game release to the next.

I'm going to lift the needle off the broken record for a second, but this happens in every racing franchise with a goal of improving their physics with each subsequent release. I can tell you that the MR2 GT-S, being one of the rare cars to exist in the exact year/trim through every GT game, has had quite a different character throughout the run since 1998.

The cars behaving differently, in isolation, should not automatically be viewed as a bad thing, as the standard by which they're judged (in a simulation title) should be reality, not the previous edition of the game. Considering how many times PD has tinkered with the physics engine in GT5 alone, through the various updates, should have you thinking about that.

Speaking of which; unless there are some glaring glitches/exploits that are uncovered soon after release, I hope that habit dies with GT5. Constantly changing the physics - sometimes without even telling us - is incredibly frustrating, as it changes the effectiveness of previous tunes, and makes it impossible to directly compare two tunes/cars over a decent span of time. It would also require complete wipes of leaderboards... if we get those.

Are they going to have a full grid of indy cars or will it be like they did with Nascar and just have a couple of generic cars?

They have 4 licensed cars from 4 of the top teams. Making matters worse is that FM5 has the 1976 Mclaren and Ferrari F1 cars due to T10's recent tie-in with that movie Rush.

Deltawing > Indycar.

Fun Fact: Deltawing was a concept for the 2012 Indycar, but got rejected.

F1>indy...seriously.
I just overtaked a red car.. and then I'm aproaching a whole field of.. red cars. How verious this race is gonna be...

Seriously, we have two Ferrari F1. Even if Ferrari is that special brand, racing a field of all red cars is not exactly what you call "immersive" "realistic" or just "fun". Even in their own manufacture races with 599xx Evo and FXX Evo they don't use all red cars. We could fix that adding more variety to the grid with.. you know what.

A thread in which to bitch. I'm game.

BTW, I've tried to address issues I think could be realistically implemented.

OK first and most obvious one (somewhat a cliché) is standard/premiums. When GT5 came out, I thought I'd personally prefer to have less cars if that meant uniformity of quality (but some may disagree). It seems there have been efforts to address this for GT6 by improving the standard models and adding greater functionality (which I give them credit for). This still fails to address one of the biggest reasons people complained about it in the first place, cockpits.

I used the first person camera for all cars for two reasons. Firstly because the consistency of the experience is important, and secondly I wasn't keen on the cockpit implementation (even on the premiums). The problem is there is no ability to adjust it (beyond normal and narrow). Almost every game that has used a fixed cockpit view has felt wrong to me. When I play PC simulators I have the ability to tailor the view, which is hugely important for immersion. What may feel correct on say a 50" screen will feel dramatically different on a 24". Also some people (myself included) sit close to the screen with a wheel, whereas others sit across the room, which again will massively alter the effect. I would love the the ability to adjust seat position and FOV (not just two settings). However seeing as not all cars will feature cockpits, that point would still be moot in my case (unless they were to implement a generic cockpit for non premium cars). A compromise I would be happy to live with is a bonnet cam. Being most games that either have no cockpit view or one I am unhappy using, this is my next favourite view (and works well in pretty much every game that has used it). Over the course of the franchises history I have heard many requests for a bonnet cam as well as (in the more recent games) requests for more third person camera options. What I never heard was a request for a roof cam! Is he deliberately trying to annoy people, or is he just not listening?

I haven't heard anyone cover my second complaint which is about arcade mode. In GT5 there is almost no customisability in arcade mode. I want the ability to select opponents myself. That way I could set up races between cars that would be an interesting match for each other. Also the amount of opponents, should I wish to run a one on one.

Another thing that really wound me up was weather/time of day. Firstly these should have been separate options. Secondly the time should have been scalable. I was excited when I heard these features would be included but the way in which they were executed frustrated me. In fact I would have preferred they not bother at all and spend the time improving another aspect of the game.

I can think of other complaints, but for me these are the big ones. So to summarise:

Premium/standard cars
Cameras (Lack of bonnet camera and ability to adjust cockpit camera)
Arcade race customisation
Time of day and weather implementation

GT5 has a bonnet camera. The positioning could be better on some cars. On most cars I love using the bonnet camera.
