@ville500 O M G, grindmongous mate

Hey @sturk0167, nice to see you, been a while. In case you missed it, you are now free to enter your own LEC :gtpflag:
In fact, I insist (you sadist) #miserylovescompany :)
Okay
I should be starting mine shortly. The idea I have would probably need about 7 or 8 hundred decals to do properly.
I'll have to find another way.
It's definitely not going to resemble a racecar livery in any way. 🎨

I’m just starting to think about the challenge, but maybe Kandinsky’s circles? Definitely need to spend some brain cycles on this one. Also if we were to have the same idea, i promise I’m not a threat 😂
The first thing I thought was something in the style of a Mondrian, but I'm not doing that. I have something specific in mind (not Kandinsky circles) but I'm not sure it's possible with the restrictions and whether or not the decal limit will come into play... if not I've already got a fall back design that might be the quickest livery I've ever made :D If the first idea works, it'll be on a BMW VGT.

... but if anyone needs an easy sponsor, MAHLE is pretty easy!

Very amateur livery editor here. I did some liveries with a lot of bits here and there. Is there a solution to group a bunch of stickers (like your 17 squares here) et duplicate the group on the other side of the car ? instead fo duplicating each sticker one by one ?

If you line up square you can push them all the way through the car. Only works if you want it mirrored

I had a lot of fun with this theme, projecting circles at weird angles to see what would happen. After playing with that for an hour or two I felt guilty about not having any squares, so I used some to create a couple of futuristic stripes along the centreline. The minimalistic square-and-circle logo was something I came up with at the very last moment, not sure it if improved the actual livery or not, but I think it looks good on the license plates.

I really enjoyed this LEC, it reminded me of making liveries on the first Forza Motorsport about 20 years ago when you had to make everything out of the few shapes available.
This was actually my 3rd attempt. The first I felt wasn’t good enough after seeing @ville500’s entry. The second was a pop art design, but I ran out of decals half way through. Then this came together as I was just throwing around some ideas, I would’ve liked a bit more design at the back and on the roof but I ran out of decals.

Right then. This is my tribute to the creator of the second BMW Art car, Frank Stella (that's the graph paper one ;) ).

I wanted to recreate his polar coordinates works, but it wasn't quite possible within the confines of this LEC.

Works featured... Hyena Stomp, on the bonnet. An Untitled work on the roof - this required the cars base paint to be a special paint, hence the rest is masked. The front wings feature the empress of India designs. The rear is the Kufa Gate unititled work design... ish... colours seem to be from a later work. Harran II features in the doors, though given the limitations, I couldn't represent this properly. Rear quarters are from 'doubles' from the concentric square series called 'scramble'.

I was originally going to do these on a E9 CSL, but the 'squarer' panels of the E30 were easier, and also, I didn't want any of the featured works to be newer than the model year of the car. In my head, this is a partner art car to the Ken Done and M J Nelson cars... as Stella's Polar Co-ordinates M1 was for the other Art Cars.

edit: the lack of rear wing is a tribute to the Class One 325i of Sandro Chia.... honest.

PS5 Raytracing
With some blank provisoric sponsor placement, I'm 25% happy and 75% done with this livery. Of course I hit the layer limit. (Nah, got a few left, but to keep it symmetric I had to stop here). It took longer than it looks to make this simple livery. I had to mute the audio at some point too, for obvious reasons..

I think I will finish this livery eventually, with vectors to reduce layers, and make it a GTP sponsored ride. It looked better in idea, not happy at all with the execution.

Also. No bonus images this time? Here is one anyway :D

Am I right in assuming we can't use the Race Number or Windscreen Banner presets in the game? Ie. Take one of the race cars and use the in-game defaults for those, but the actual livery and any other sponsors all come from hand-crafted squares and circles???

Clarity please??

You could use a blank windshield banner, and decorate it with circles and squares. You can create a number board with the default decals if you want to, but it doesn't need to be a racecar livery.

Cool, thanks. So if we're making a race livery everything needs to be made from scratch, even number boards and numbers. Coolio!

Now wishing I had decided to make an art car instead. Lol!

That’s exactly why mine ended up having simple circle number boards as I ran out of layers for the rest of the livery when I had more complex ones in it
