Ok fellow GTP musicians, read on because this is it!
Its time to get your fingers, your feet or whatever limbs you use to play your instrument warmed up!
Why? Because its showtime! Time to show your improv skills!
It doesnt matter if your a bluesguy, a jazzcat, a metalhead, a countrydude or whatever musicform you enjoy!

First of all, everyone is welcome, but on a sidenote and to keep things a little bit in order, you should at least be on a level that you mastered your instrument, which doesnt mean you have to be a virtuoso or a advanced intermediate, but to make this work, and that the end result is something we all enjoy listening to, i think its a good idea to draw the line at some level right?

Secondly, you should be able to record the sound of your instrument into your computer.
preferably in wav (44khz-16bit or 24bit) or mp3 format. (192kb)
The best way to do this is usualy with a dedicated audio interface or microphone into the mic or line in of your computer.
I will try to figure out if there are any cheap mics&interfaces and free software solutions for you to use.
All audio files will be mixed, edited and mastered with ableton live 9

Is it? YES!! I don't know what "it" is, but if this is it, I'm in!

Yeah! Yeah!!

Why? Because its showtime! Time to show your improv skills!

Vocal improv? I write my lyrics quickly, but not quick enough to sing them as I write. :P Maybe I'll just do melodic wooooaaahs.

Now myself and pako who is a moderater here on gtplanet are brainstorming about the song ideas for you to play over so please be patient.
I've pretty much mastered my vocals, still experiment a bit but that's not an issue.

To be sure everyone can jam along we have to keep things simple, so it is probably gonna be some kind of funky bluesy type of groove-thang ;)

Great!! :D

Since we use studio equipment i will try to figure out if there are any cheap (read mics) or free (as in software) solutions for you to use.

I will try to post the song/idea/groove before the end of this weekend.

Cheers!

Bugger... All that build up just to be let down by my own money shortage... I blame the economy for it being lousy. :P

@Skython Hahaha, i was reading along with your quotes, then only to see your money shortage at the end! (thats not laughable though)

First page is edited, be sure to check out the sound clip and provide your tracks. :)

Could use some horn accents, keys, harp, would be great to have a couple different leads, vocals, start jammin and share your track.

Its awfull quite pako, i think people are afraid ;)

Nice! Hopefully this happens this time.

I will be contributing my brass playing. I own and am proficient at cornet, mellophonium, trombone, bass trombone and euphonium. I'm experienced at multitracking so if there are no other horn players on GTPlanet I'd be happy to record all the horn parts. I'll be laying down some tracks soon.

I also compose and arrange and would be happy to throw together some instrumental parts so we can get solos, backgrounds and melodies sorted out.

In fact, I think my brother has a DAW of sorts. If I could get myself a decent condenser mic, and I could probably fork out some money on a Presonus recording system to plug the mic into, there is a chance yet :D, though it might not happen for a month or 3 yet. :grumpy:

I'd benefit though, I could record a lot more of my work that I have written. I have a song that I could probably play on guitar too, so that would be a nice acoustic/vocal song.

I really have a hard time figuring out how I could incorporate the recorder in the nice beat. :D Along with the part that I can't record in lossless quality either. :boggled:

I think we need a foundation first and add the recorder in later.

I have drums and percussion.

Now, I've got a lot of stuff in my room as storage so I can't get my full kit out, but there's nothing stopping me getting some hand perc out and going totally Latin on this mother.

Edit: it will have to be just percussion, my drum kit has silencers on it and it's really irritating to get them off again, and the room I'm in isn't brilliant for drum dynamics.

Besides, I think you already got a drum line covered there pretty well.

That would be awesome!
A funky blues groove without the horn stabs is pretty empty if you asked me.
A nice solo would also be very nice!

Yeah, but it would be nice to get someone with percusion or drums on the track!

I'm pretty much going to have to hold off on drums for now until I get the space to do stuff. Perc-wise, we've got a conga cajon, bongos (cheap so tuning these are hella hard), a couple tambourines and a guiro. I need to grab a shaker/maracas just to complete the set, really.

We could for example (just an idea) cut the drumparts or sections of it, or just keep the bassdrum and high-hat going where your solo begins, so it stands out of the mix?

A little, but nothing solo-y because you usually allow the others to do their thing. I can do it, it's just very rarely I get the chance to behind the kit. Also there's a reason guiro solos don't happen, ahaha

Establishing solo orders/lengths once we get the final mix would be a good idea. As it stands there's only room for intro/in-head and maybe one short solo.

Ive just re-read the original thread, which dated back to april 2003.
Alot of people were interested, but the idea did not result in some real music.
Thats why pako and me decided to go ahead and record something easy and simple, not only chord wise but also on the editing side. ( we can now copy and paste parts easily , and adjust the rhythm-bass-guitar parts easily in lenght).
The track we posted has a short head/intro, then the first part twice ( 2x 12bars), followed by the chorus which is also played twice.(2X12 bars).
I think thats a good amount of playtime for one to improvise over.
However, it depends on how many people want to join.
When there are only 3 people replying it maybe a little short. ;)

This weekend im sending pako the final rhythm track, which will probably be the same amount of bars.

It's going to be tight as to when I record because there's a small matter of me being my brother's best man at his wedding on Saturday, and weekends are pretty much the only time I get free rein over my time.

Well, then we have something in common. the only sparetime i have is also the weekends, and even in the weekends my time is very limited at the moment.
BUT, i really want this to work, we should MAKE this work.
I dont want this thread to end as the other one, (or as a discusion about a cool collaboration idea)but we shouldnt rush things either.
There is still plenty of time for you to work things out;)
Relax!;)
