The Highway Girl: Page 9 - The New Reina

I just find the Spoon CR-Z fun to drive. You can only max it to 246 HP, though. :P

But still one of the most fun FF cars to drive.

Page 9 - Lifelong Dream

While I am drinking a canned soda to cool myself, Axel descends the stairs in a happy mood. That's a surprise, after all that has happened, he immediately shifted his mood.

Axel: "Hey, are you free?"

Takuma: "Yeah. Where do you want to go?"

Axel: "To my home in Roponggi."

Takuma: "Okay, sure."

Axel: "We'll just wait for Chris to finish dressing up."

Hmmmm... have I cheered him up? Anyways, we have arrived in his home. It has an adequate space for a family, and his wife Katrine is now 7 months pregnant.

Katrine: "Welcome. Want to have some tea?"

Takuma: "Um, sure."

Axel: "Chris, you'll be staying here until the Tuner Challenge ends."

Chris: "No problem."

Axel: "Come, I shall show you something in the garage."

Upon entering there, Axel brought us to his red Acura NSX. I won't be surprised if his has an LHD configuration since domestic NSXs are hard to find nowadays.

Takuma: "Nice. I actually envy you. I want to have an NSX. But second hand units are scarce."

Axel: "True. I got this from the U.S. and it's one of my dreams that came true."

Chris: "And the one with a stick."

Takuma: "Yeah. Another pain in the butt is looking for a decent manual transmission NSX model. Automatic models are aplenty, but owners immediately take the transmission out and replace it with an aftermarket manual unit."

Axel: "Chris, won't you mind if you stay here? Takuma and I will have a brotherly bonding in the NSX. Takuma, let's go."

**********************************************************

We head to Tsukuba Circuit. Axel really enjoys his NSX a lot. Good for you...

Axel: "Hey, thanks for cheering me up."

8469936633_b0b5914718_c.jpg

Takuma: "That? Oh, it's nothing. I just want to make you feel better. You are not alone. You will always be our chief mechanic."

8469936481_5231ea785e_c.jpg

Axel: "I like the handling! Though it tends to understeer sometimes."

Takuma: "And tall gears as well."

Axel: "I love tinkering with cars since I was little. My mother used to scold me whenever I make a mess in my room with my dismantled model cars. Then it turned into a dream. The reason why I joined The Tuner Challenge is because I believe that it can realize my dreams."

8469936271_767c04495a_c.jpg

Axel: "I want to step up and be recognized. I want to be the very best that no one ever was. I will be the best tuner there is!"

8469936189_cef5a328e6_c.jpg

Takuma: "That's what a Kanonji is. Dreams motivate us to win. Just keep on pursuing them, and you'll catch them in time."

Axel: "It doesn't matter if I'm The Third Courier or not. I have accepted the fact that I am an illegitimate son, but I am as every bit as a Kanonji! I am proud to be one! I will be the one that will make your cars the fastest ever!"

Takuma: "That's the spirit!"

I'm glad that Axel is back on track. So what if he's not The Third Courier?

As long as you do your best and keep on pursuing your dreams, you'll accomplish a lot in life.

Samui: "Ichishima-san told me about The Tuner Challenge event. And what a perfect opportunity to test out this monster CR-Z!"

Samui: "There's less understeer, and the wider body has a purpose. Thank you, Ichishima-san, you're like a father to me."

Samui: "Time for the world to know. Look out, because here comes Samui Kanonji!"

You've got one hell of a nice car, Axel. I'm sure you can turn it to something even greater. And you are turning into a father soon. I guess every one of us is settling down for good.

But I guess our work puts more than enough food on the table. Heck, you can even build a mansion with it. But I am contented with just a happy family and an adequately-sized house.

With the Tuner Challenge just around the corner, Axel works on my FD. I offer him a cup of coffee to let him have a break. He's been working non-stop!

Takuma: "Care to have some coffee?"

Axel: "If that's your specialty flavor coffee, then I'll have it."

Takuma: "Calm down. It's not like that the event will be tomorrow."

Axel: "We Germans value time. Everything must be done in time. In a corporate setting, one must finish the job before closing time. An overtime means inefficiency."

Takuma: "So our cultures are no different at all. The Japanese also value time."

Axel: "Yep, I got a free ride when the train got late in just a minute."

He stands up and takes time in drinking coffee. I made it myself.

Axel: "Oh, I will work on the NSX when the event is over. I have already thought of the settings for it."

Takuma: "You've got everything planned out, huh? The Japanese and the Germans really do have things in common."

Axel: "Oh, won't you mind if you look after the car? I almost forgot to buy ingredients for dinner."

Takuma: "Sure. I'll take the liberty of time for setting the car."

Axel: "Anata ni makasero yo. Or is it wrong?"
(I'll leave it to you)

Takuma: "You're getting good in Japanese. Keep it up. Ore ni makasero." (Leave it to me)

Denver: "Japan is truly interesting."

8473755258_c96defe2d5_c.jpg

Denver: "This is where the tuning culture started. And I gotta respect the Japanese a lot for it."

8473755040_822583ab24_c.jpg

Denver: "I will definitely beat you, Takuma Kanonji! I am ready more than ever! I even find it hard to beat my little sister, and that means that you have a lot of potential."

**********************************************************

Back in Tokyo, Axel heads out from the grocery with all the ingredients he need for dinner.

While walking leisurely, he sees a kid with his mother. The kid is playing with his ball, bouncing it repeatedly.

However, he lost control of it and rolls across the street. The boy goes to the street to get it. Suddenly, a truck is oncoming at high speed, and the mother desperately runs to get her son. The truck is just too fast to stop.

Without time to lose, Axel runs and pushes the boy aside. He takes the hit, and he flies off meters away. His head landed violently on the asphalt, breaking his skull and plenty of blood is flowing.

When the mother finally got her son, she immediately calls for help. With his life slowly fading away, Axel thinks back of his moments with his loved ones.

Axel: "I guess this is it. I think I have done my purpose in life. Like I said, I have got everything planned out. It's up to you now, Takuma, on how you drive my precious NSX. Take care of it, okay?

I am very thankful that I met the Kanonji family. Takanori... Takuma... and also the whole Dream Alliance team. You taught me a lot about bonds. I have always thought that I am alone. I have realized that it's the other way around. I thought that I am a poisoned, cursed child since I was born out of wedlock.

But you accepted me as part of the Kanonji family. I will never forget the moments that we had. And both of you can change the world for the better. I am truly honored to meet the most famous and the fastest duo in the universe, The Kanonji Twins.

And as for my wife, Katrine, I hope you live a life full of happiness. You should tell our future child about me, okay? He has to know his father in one way or another. Our relationship has been put to various trials, but in the end, love prevailed. I love you very much, and rest assured, I will be the one that will beat your heart forever.

Page 11 - Tuning Notes

While I am setting up my FD, I see Katrine crying while she's on the phone. I wonder why. Something wrong?

I immediately approached her.

Takuma: "Something wrong?"

Katrine: "Axel... he's in a very critical condition. I want to see him!"

Takuma: "What!? What happened?"

Katrine: "He got hit by a truck and he's now clinging for his life."

Takuma: "No way! Let's see him!"

We are so worried. By the time we reached the ICU room where Axel onii-san is, all Katrine can do is cry. A doctor comes in, and it seems that he's not that ready to break the news.

The upper part of Axel's head is covered with bandages. All over it. I can't stand to see him like this. How about his dreams? How about his lifelong goal? And how about his future family? What will happen to the child if he has no father to look up to? Will that child grow up the same way that he did, without knowing his father?

Fight, onii-san! FIGHT!

Doctor: "Excuse me? Are you Mr. Kanonji's wife?"

Katrine: "Yes I am. How is his condition?"

Doctor: "This is the hardest part of my job. Your husband has 5% chance of survival."

Katrine: "What!? No...."

Doctor: "He suffers severe head trauma. Cases like this usually end up in a patient's death, but Mr. Kanonji somehow makes it. All we can do is hope for the best that his condition will improve."

She is just drowning in tears. I have to console her. The doctor left us, and I can really tell that even he finds it hard to break the news.

Takuma: "Just calm down. This is not good for your child. Even if it's 1 percent, or .001 percent, there is hope. He is a fighter, remember that. He has lots of plans in his life."

Katrine: "But what can we do? Just watch him?"

Takuma: "Just be strong for him. You have to help him fight."

**********************************************************

By evening, we head back home. I advised Katrine to rest up, while I am resuming my work. While I am getting the tools in the drawer, I suddenly dropped the pieces of paper. It turns out to be somehow a blueprint of his NSX. He envisioned it with a race car bodykit, with wide tires. Man, he's good at drawing! And on another sheet reveals the tuning parts and settings.

And then I see unopened boxes at one corner of the garage. All of them are labeled "NSX" which means that they are ready to be installed. You've got everything planned out, huh? I salute you.

Then Kokoro calls me up. She is looking for me, and I guess I have to finish it tomorrow.

Or perhaps, start working on the NSX. I want to let Axel onii-san see his project come alive when he wakes up. He should have told me about it. I love the NSX! And I am very happy for him that he owns one, and I am actually jealous.

So the next day, Takanori and I head to his garage and start working on his project.

Takanori: "I wish he's okay."

Takuma: "But there's a huge possibility that he won't make it. Even if his time comes, we will finish this car. We will do this for him. We will win the Tuner Challenge event."

Takanori: "Yeah! Let's do this for Onii-san! Let's start!"

I parked my FD outside so that we could focus on the NSX. Opening those boxes can be a chore, but the parts are just heavenly.

Takanori: "Look at this giant air filter!"

Takuma: "I'm surprised that he didn't order turbos. Usually, Germans are known to be crazy on tuning."

Takanori: "Germans are known for their technique and precision! No wonder German cars are very praiseworthy. Axel onii-san is one of them. He's not aiming for a power-crazed toy, but he wants a precise machine!"

Katrine would prepare us snacks while working on the NSX. We usually let Kaido or Alessandro do the tuning of our cars, and now we feel how hard the chore is.

We are following Axel onii-san's tuning notes. Man, even the spring rate settings have multiple decimal figures! The LSD settings are well-sorted out for the NSX. That's precision for you! I'm sure he had ran the NSX so many times that he has to come up with these amazing settings for his project.

Katrine: "You know, Axel spent an entire night drawing that on the sheet of paper. So this is it, huh? It's totally a race car. The sketch turned into reality!"

**********************************************************

After everything is done, Takanori and I head to Twin Ring Motegi the next weekend to have a shakedown. Takanori is doing the driving.

8475250615_bfbc0bd29b_c.jpg

8476338588_0e1a41882b_c.jpg

Takanori: "Man, this feels great! No wonder the NSX is feared by the European supercar manufacturers in its time! Even today!"

8475252283_5e3cf7aa85_c.jpg

Takanori: "There is balance. The power and handling are in sync! Most tuned cars from Germany are power-crazed mad machines! But Axel onii-san steers away from that trend!"

8475249771_986f52e57e_c.jpg

Takanori: "A bit of wheelspin there. But I can play with the accelerator easily."

8476337512_9b14b80c8e_c.jpg

Takanori: "Aniki, we can win the Tuner Challenge with this machine!"

So Takanori returns the pits. Upon taking off his helmet, I am seeing a very satisfied face.

Takuma: "How is it?"

Takanori: "Wunderbar! This is perfect! I love revving it to 9000 rpm!"

Takuma: "A few more finishing touches and we can run this thing on the events."

Takanori: "When he wakes up, he will have a big smile!"

Takuma: "I will be the one driving the NSX on the event proper. I am so eager to drive it."

Takanori: "I think you should. You are faster than me."

Axel onii-san, I hope you could see how we love your project. One last step is...

...to make your dreams come true! Hang in there!

Page 12 - Unexpected Arrival

The Tuner Challenge event has started in Mt. Aso. As early as 6 in the morning, tuners from all over the world have arrived and set up their cars. Chris and I arrived at 10 in the morning, just in time for the event opening.

As usual, Julie Chan takes the stage.

Julie: "Greetings! Or shall I say, Konnichiwa! Today is another day for The Tuner Challenge event! Denver is here with us today, representing the Grand Touring Garage shop as usual. So Denver, enjoying your stay here in Japan so far?"

Denver: "The hills are in a different level from our hills back home. This would be a challenge for every one of us here."

Julie: "Say, are you also here for a revenge match?"

Denver: "Yeah, I am calling out Takuma Kanonji and I will beat him once and for all."

The NSX will leave your Yank Tank in the dust. I'll make sure of it.

Julie: "Oh, I almost forgot. We also have a very special guest for today. He is the owner of the very popular Spoon Sports tuning shop! He makes Hondas even more enjoyable to drive. Ladies and Gentlemen, make some noise to Mr. Tatsuru Ichishima!"

Tatsuru: "Thank you. I shall be presenting my latest entry. This is one of my finest creations. Though I can say that it is barely street legal. Nevertheless, it is a beast. It will arrive after a short while."

Julie: "We're so excited! What would it be?"

Tatsuru: "Something you wouldn't expect."

Even I am wondering what it could be.

8481202985_0639efd7a6_c.jpg

Samui: "Such a large crowd! I'm not sure if I am ready..."

8482293874_e2a9b2bf52_c.jpg

Samui: "But I don't want to embarrass Ichishima-san in front of the crowd. I can do this..."

8482293156_620f90550d_c.jpg

Tatsuru: "Here it is! My latest project!"

Julie: "A CR-Z!?"

Then I am totally surprised. Samui-kun is driving that CR-Z!?

Tatsuru: "Samui-kun, you made it. Well, can you beat that Gaijin over there?"

Samui: "We don't know unless we try."

Tatsuru: "Julie, as for our demonstration for the car's abilities. I shall put it to the test. I would be honored if Denver will race against it."

Denver: "I hope it's something worthwhile. It's a hybrid..."

While the two cars are lining up the start, I approach Samui-kun.

Samui: "Takuma-san!"

Takuma: "Never expected you to show up here. So, how long how you've been running?"

Samui: "The moment I got my license last year."

Takuma: "Heh. I see. You must be very skilled to catch the attention of someone like Tatsuru Ichishima."

Denver: "You look so young there, kid. What's your name?"

Samui: "Samui Kanonji. I am 19 years old. I am pleased to meet you."

No way! Did I hear it right!? HE'S A KANONJI!?

Denver: "This better be a proper warm up before I could beat Takuma."

Samui: "Don't worry sir, I'll make it worth your while."

It's interesting to see if the CR-Z can beat a Mustang. After all, this is the Touge. Power difference here is useless.

Julie: "It seems that everything is all set. I'll do the countdown!"

Takuma: "Good luck, Samui. Welcome to the clan. This is a perfect rite of passage."

Samui: "Do you think I can win this?"

Takuma: "A Kanonji is always confident. You can do it."

I think I'll leave it to you, Samui. I might reserve the NSX for something even better.

You'll never know what will hit you, Denver. You'll never know...

End of Page 12

I need a volunteer for the duel. If you're familiar with the Touge Max Showdown style of running, then that's how we should do it. I'll be available on weekdays from 6 pm... (Local time; I am at GMT: +08:00)

I'll happily help as I am used to to touge driving. The league I compete in runs similar rules to Touge Max.

I'm truly sorry, I can't post the next page until the weekend (hopefully) since my internet does not cooperate with me at the given time. Since I'm just home for the whole weekend, I can have the duel at the lounge at morning or afternoon (definitely not evening since this is when the internet is acting strange).

I have threatened my internet provider that I will switch to their competitor if they don't make things right. It's been happening for days.

Not to mention the last time I've seen you in the lounge room, you were stopping then you'd suddenly "teleport" a few meters from your position. That kept happening non-stop.

Page 13 - The Rite of Passage

I find it really hard to believe that Samui belongs to the Kanonji family. Is he closely related or not? But I think he is....

...heh, knowing how he has the guts to take on someone like Denver.

Denver takes the lead position. Can the CR-Z keep up? It's all over if it can't. Everyone can watch the race via a large live monitor at the stage.

8498741135_a878d24a6b_c.jpg

8498741131_8d1a8524e0_c.jpg

Denver, your Mustang can be a 10-second car on the dragstrip; but it is equivalent to a 10-minute car in the Touge! Your mountain pass is way different from our mountain pass!

8498740953_9740f8e8a1_c.jpg

Denver: "Interesting... I have always thought that Hybrids are plump and slow."

8499846840_23d87e962e_c.jpg

Samui: "Your car seems weird... Why does it tend to lose control? Why am I seeing smoke from the rear tires? Is it broken or what? The CR-Z does not have that problem."

8498740711_d6f684de70_c.jpg

Impressive! Samui is hot on Denver's tail! I even doubt that CR-Z's abilities...

8498740375_5f84628f86_c.jpg

Denver: "Shoot! I went in too fast! Understeer! That kid is no ordinary schoolboy... To think that he has driven a car only for a year, and managing to race and keep up is something humiliating for me!"

8499846490_3fab615947_c.jpg

Samui: "I'm not really knowledgeable about cars, but what is it you're doing? Why are you sliding?"

8498737607_3fe8e531fe_c.jpg

Samui: "He lost control of the car! I gotta swerve!"

The audience is very shocked at what they saw. Heh, you really are a Kanonji, boy. I like your style. I'd never thought that an ordinary schoolboy could do something like that.

8498737475_1fba849b48_c.jpg

Samui: "Whew, that's close! I guess the race is over, then."

8498737565_f5723de3d0_c.jpg

Samui: "Ichishima-san would definitely be happy."

Denver is gonna feel that sting for quite some time  .He should've practiced his big block on the hilly mountains if he knew the event was gonna be there.

Good page. Really looking forward to find out about Samui's connections, and of course, Axel's destiny.

Page 14 - New Sportscar Experimental

What happened yesterday is phenomenal.

Who could think that a 19-year old schoolboy could be a pro behind the wheel? What's more shocking, is that he is a Kanonji. After the event yesterday, Samui left with Tatsuru Ichishima immediately. I didn't have the chance to talk to him.

Having no taping nor race days to attend to, Takanori and I head to the hospital to check on Axel's condition. He is still lying there like a vegetable, and Katrine looks at him while a nurse monitors his condition.

Takanori: "So, how's Onii-san?"

Katrine: "There's no improvement at all. Chances of survival are still slim. Call me crazy, but I tell stories to him every night in hopes that he would wake up."

Takuma: "I see. The concluding event of The Tuner Challenge will be held in the Twin Ring Motegi Road Course next week. I will drive your husband's NSX to make him proud and fulfill his dreams. I will do it for him."

Katrine: "Thank you. I am sure Axel will wake up happily once you win the race. Good luck."

Takanori: "Leave it to us!"

Suddenly, I got a call from Okaasan. She told me that Samui wants to see me in the Mochi shop.

Takuma: "Guys, don't you mind if I leave? Someone wants to see me in the shop. I'll be back."

Takanori: "Okay. I'll let you know if something's up."

I arrived at the Mochi shop. Samui and Okaasan are having a leisurely talk.

Tomoko: "Oh there he is. I'll leave you two, okay? I have to prepare more Mochi to serve."

Takuma: "What a pleasant surprise. You actually came to see me."

Samui: "Since I made a sudden and a shocking revelation yesterday, I want to talk to you about my origins."

Takuma: "What you did yesterday made you a hot topic among racing blogs. Denver still wets his pants after that loss yesterday."

Samui: "Really!? I'm even nervous yesterday..."

Takuma: "You call that nervous? So you started racing in the Touge ever since you got your license?"

Samui: "Correct. That CR-Z is my first car, and my mother gave it to me as a birthday gift. Ever since my mother died, Ichishima-san took a fatherly role and even finances my grandmother's flower shop. It's not that we asked him to, but he volunteered. I owe a lot to Ichishima-san, to think that he could do that despite being very busy in his Spoon Sports tuning shop here."

Takuma: "Are you closely related to us?"

Samui: "Yes. Your father, Uncle Tatsumi, and my father were siblings. That makes me your cousin."

Takuma: "I see."

Samui: "My father, named Masahiro, accidentally separated from the family when he was young because of a sea accident. While he is on a holiday with his family members on a ship, an oil tanker collided with that cruise ship, making it sink. With the chaos, my father was easily separated from the family and he was presumed dead after the ship had sunk.

He was taken in by a fisherman, and since then, he worked hard and took on countless jobs until he could earn enough money to live on his own. Then he met my mother and then I was born. Days after I was born, my father died in a road accident and I only got to know this story because of my mother."

Could he be The Third Courier?

Takuma: "So, how come you have acquired such amazing racing skills?"

Samui: "Ichishima-san taught me, and my CR-Z is used as a training tool."

Takuma: "I guess all the pieces are in place."

Samui: "Now that I have gotten the thrill of racing, can you teach me more? I want to be faster."

Takuma: "Heh, no problem. Besides, the Kanonji name is very well-known for speed. Are you ready?"

Samui: "Yes!"

I am seeing determination from that boy's response.

Takuma: "Well then, welcome to the clan."

**********************************************************

At evening, I returned to Axel onii-san's home. I head straight to the garage and start to work on the NSX for the upcoming event. While working on the suspension, I remembered what he told me while tuning the FD back in the States.

"You want oversteer? Then stiffen the rear suspension and strengthen the rear brakes! Playing with the LSD can be tricky too!"

"The turbo boost? Don't just play with it. Or else your RX-7 will suffer big time."

"GOT... IT... MEMORIZED?"

I have it memorized, Onii-san. You really are a tuning guru. I guess I'll be working all night with the NSX. I can sleep beside it.

After days of trial and error of tuning, the NSX is very much ready to take on the event on the weekend.

Takanori: "Aniki, you have been going back and forth just to work that NSX."

Takuma: "Silly rabbit. The event will be on Saturday. But she is very much ready."

Takanori: "Oh, what's up with that Samui dude? You talked to him a few days ago, right?"

Takuma: "It's a long story. Well, why don't you ask him tomorrow? He'll be coming with us."

**********************************************************

And so, it's the big day. Everyone gathered at the track to witness the culminating activity. Whoever wins the event will be crowned as the Tuner King of the year. I must do this for him.

Samui is very fascinated when he saw the car. He goes around it to no end.

Samui: "Wow... And the engine is where?"

Takuma: "It's right behind the seats, boy."

Samui: "Amazing! I always thought that engines are always placed in the front."

Takuma: "F1 cars adopt the same engine position as this NSX. So you'll have a pretty good idea what the layout is best known for."

Samui: "I'm sure it would drive totally different from my CR-Z, won't it?"

Takuma: "Just watch. And you'll understand."

The race will start in rolling manner. I firmed my grip on the steering wheel. This is for you...

8499565475_97a1377657_c.jpg

8500671744_9dfdefc0aa_c.jpg

That's a nice start. I am overtaking some of the opponents already. The NSX would always be Japan's proper supercar!

8500671534_4ed9e3869c_c.jpg

Sorry Takanori, GT-Rs aren't always great.

8500671218_8181df8b47_c.jpg

Impressive cornering abilities as expected from an NSX! And with your tuning advice, this will eat even more powerful cars in the corners!

8500671146_2bda8d1f24_c.jpg

8500670766_cf89e0a179_c.jpg

Samui: "As expected, Takuma is a high level driver."

Takanori: "He is faster than me, that's all I can ever say. And I think you'll be as great as him!"

Samui: "But I have a small experience in track racing. And my CR-Z is the only car I have ever driven."

Takanori: "It would be great to drive a totally different car! Like a rear-wheel drive car, for example."

Samui: "Huh? Rear-wheel drive?"

Takanori: "I guess I have lots of explaining to do..."

I'm halfway through the race. I have to catch the leading car!

Takuma: "Takanori! What's the car in the lead?"

Takanori: "It's an R32 GT-R! You'll have a hard time catching it!"

Takuma: "I hope that's not a biased statement."

I very well know the R32 GT-R's weakness, seeing Takanori's R32 run so many times makes me very well aware of it.

All right, time to catch a Godzilla! I'll show you what the New Sportscar Experimental can do!

Page 15 - Fulfilled

It's the last lap, yet I am still chasing the lead car which is a blue R32 GT-R. GT-R's has lots of potential in the track, but that does not automatically make them winners. There are lots of ways to exploit their weaknesses. But I have to act now!

The NSX is lighter than the GT-R, so therefore I can brake later.

All right, you braked too early!

Now, time to slam the brakes and dive in!

All right! The R32 understeered! I will make a pass.

You'll never be able to corner this fast, R32! Farewell...

I crossed the line in 1st! This is for you, onii-san... You are this year's Tuner King. You'll definitely wake up happy.

Takanori: "All right! Aniki won! And Axel onii-san would definitely love hearing this!"

Samui: "Itoko is very amazing, isn't he? I wonder when can I be as fast as him?"

After the event, we immediately head to the hospital. I am carrying with me the trophy and medal for them to be given to Axel onii-san. When we enter the room, I put them on the table beside the bed.

Takanori: "Onii-san? We have good news! You are the Tuner King! Finally, your dreams are fulfilled!"

Katrine: "I hope you're hearing it, Axel. They did it for you. Aren't you happy?"

Suddenly, Axel shows a smile! Finally!

Axel: "I... did it. Thank you..."

However, his heart stops beating. Why?

Katrine: "Axel! No!!!"

I immediately rush outside to tell the doctors to revive him. Their attempts, however, end in vain.

Doctor: "Time of death, 5 pm..."

Takanori: "Onii-san!!!!"

Katrine is crying heavily on her husband's body. Why? Why do you have to go? You have so much to live for... How about your kid?

I head outside once again, and there I allowed myself to cry. I wished we've spent more time together. I am so sorry... for being so cold to you back then.
You truly are a great tuner and chief mechanic. I will have your tips memorized, that's for sure.

A week later, I am at the funeral. It's a small wake, and I think that's more peaceful.

Katrine has decided to bury Axel in Germany. When we brought her to the airport, she hugged each one of us.

Katrine: "Thank you very much. Even though it has to end this way, at least my husband's dreams have finally been fulfilled."

Takanori: "But how about your child? What will you tell him?"

Katrine: "I'm sure there is a right time for that."

Takuma: "Are you going to be okay?"

Katrine: "I will be okay. But for now, even in the plane, I will make my last moments with my husband very worthwhile."

Takanori: "Just let us know if you need anything, okay? You are a part of the family too."

She hugs me again before she enters the airport.

Katrine: "Thank you, Takuma. You made Axel continue and finally fulfill his goal."

Takuma: "You're welcome. And take care, okay?"

On the way home, I am just staring at the sunny sky while leaning on the car window. I am thinking back those brief moments with me and Axel onii-san.

Takanori: "Aniki... Onii-san is a great Kanonji. He will be truly missed."

Takuma: "Even though my time with him is short, I learned a lot from him."

Takanori: "I'm sure Katrine is crying in the plane right now."

Takuma: "But I'm sure she'll move on, with Axel forever in her heart."

Takanori: "Indeed."

Danke Schoen, Axel...

Auf Wiedersehen.

Meanwhile, back in Gunma Prefecture...

Tatsuru: "You are one hell of a lucky boy, Samui-kun."

Tatsuru: "To think that you own one of these. But it's a shame that you have never driven it..."

Tatsuru: "But rest assured, this car will rise you to stardom! This car will make you feared in the world of racing!"
