I live in Canada too, and in my high school this is a serious problem. I remember in Grade 9 there was this kid who was a brony and he always tells everyone that he's gay to everyone at the school. Now in Grade 10 the kid moved to another school because hes scared to get bullied again.

You sure it wasn't cause he is a brony? :dopey: Kidding of course, but that's pretty much why I said high school can be bad, but that's because high school generally has some pretty horrible kids in it.

"he always tells everyone that he's gay to everyone at the school."

I just wanna say something about this, he would constantly tell people he is gay? So he would bring it up the all time? I don't get why some people do this—define themselves by their sexuality. I don't have a problem with gay people (what with being bi myself), but I just don't understand the mentality of defining yourself by what sex you like. It's kinda annoying too. To each their own I guess.

If it is not one adult man and one adult woman, then it is not a marriage.
Even though it was a Christian ceremony, performed by a Christian minister, in a Christian church, between two baptized Christians?

I think I have already explained as much.
You missed the bit where I asked about non-Christian marriages and how you define those in the Christian view of marriage.

Please stop ignoring the tough questions.

You know, @hogger129 - for someone who has so many strong opinions, you sure don't spend much time defending them, or even thoughtfully supporting them. You merely repeat your original opinions over again.

Makes me wonder how much you've defended your own thoughts in your own head (in academia, we refer to this as "critical thinking").

I too am bisexual, but I like to say that is only a part of who I am, not what I am.

He doesn't need to back up his thoughts, he has the bible for that.

But the Bible doesn't attempt to be a complete manual of what is and is not acceptable - such a manual would be infinite in size.

Then why are you talking as if it is? ...and using it to determine what is and isn't acceptable? You've already shown extremely limited knowledge of everything you've 'discussed', I don't know why I'm in any way surprised that you're a hypocrite too.

It has been a bad day for gay rights...

Australia's highest court has reversed a law that allowed the country's first gay marriages to take place, meaning that newly married gay couples will now have their marriages annulled...

Meanwhile in India, the Supreme Court has overturned a ruling that decriminalised homosexual intercourse...

Yeah, I was listening to the radio this afternoon and the news made me think of this thread.

The High Court seems to have been pretty clear that either it happens through the federal government or not at all.

It's a shame, but I have to admire the balls of the politicians in the ACT for pushing it through knowing that it was likely to be struck down anyway. Eventually they'll get there, it's just a matter of time. As one of the analysts said on the radio this afternoon, it's legal in NZ now and the amount of NZers and Australians that live between countries will likely force the issue sooner or later.

Why haven't the Olympics been dragged out of Sochi after all?

Oh right. Because corruption. And because nobody in charge actually cares.

I know Russia has issues that make this a legitimate point, but in the context of one crazy actor practicing free speech it seems overkill. Imagine if the international community punished the US for crazy actor comments.

I mean, even die hard liberal Alec Baldwin has homophobic fingers.

The irony of this Russian actor is that when I saw his picture in the article I first thought it was a gay man who was angry with him. There's something funny about seeing a man who appears to be a stereotype flamboyant, gay man go on a gay-hating rant.

The Olympic relocation was petitioned far before any actor comments. This guy is a nutcase, but ultimately his sayings are pretty much moot as there's bound to be a few of those in every country.

The problem is none other than Putin with his anti-gay laws.

You mean Ivan Okhlobystin with his "put all gay men to a furnace alive"? Yeah, that speech seriously compromised his reputation. Later, he said "I didn't mean all gay men, but those who go to gay prides". Doesn't sound much better though...
What you should know is that Okhlobystin is also an Orthodox priest. And priests (not only Orthodox) are the kind of people who do not tolerate homosexuality.

Let me tell you some trivia.
That noisy "gay propaganda law" wasn't Putin's idea. That law was written by Vitaly Milonov, who is another Orthodox Church member. His other law projects are so ridiculous that you can't read them without facepalm. Fortunately, the law about homosexuality propaganda was the only one accepted. Putin just signed it, not initiated.

Putin was also the one who said "every Olympics visitor will feel good, regardless of gender, age, religion, race or sexuality". I saw this on TV, but not sure if I can find a source now.

Relocate the Olympics because of some homophobic politicians and actors? This is ridiculous. :ouch:
If there can be a real reason for relocation, I see another one. This is... possible terrorist activity, that is.

Actors? No. Politicians? Maybe. If the people supposedly running the country cannot be held to account, who can?

Indeed. Politicians should be fairly representative of the entire country. If the politicians are rampant homophobes, then chances are that a large majority of the country is as well.

Some people might see that as a reason to boycott that country. You can't change people's beliefs, but you can pressure them into not being dicks to gays at least.

Have any of the Russian laws affected the ability of homosexuals in sports? If not, there is nothing that violates the stated goals of the IOC by being in Russian. In fact, they may see themselves as encouraging equality.

And if China can get the games most westernized nations can.

How do you think Milonov can threaten the gay visitors of the Olympics? Send his private army for them? LOL.

Well he's already essentially said they should be executed. Words have effects, and Russians tend to be impressionable. I don't know if that's left over from communism or what.

Ironically, making a statement like that is propaganda. But y'know. Not like the 'propaganda' people actually get imprisoned and victimised for.

Exectuted? Milonov said? The United Russia deputy? You sure not confusing anything?

Words have effects? Not in this country. You know it too bad. :sly:

Can you name a single Russian gay activist who was imprisoned for his activity?

But Kris van der Veen, a 33-year-old Dutch LGBT rights activist-turned-filmmaker, decided that the risk of having personal stories untold far outweighed any danger to himself. After being followed, detained, interrogated, fined, hauled into court, and nearly unable to leave the country, Kris explained to me why he made the trip to Russia on July 17th — and why, even after the ordeal, he wants to go back.

24-year-old Dmitry Isakov may become the first gay rights activist to be convicted under Russia’s controversial “gay propanda” laws, after he was attacked and arrested by his own parents at a solo campaign in July.

They were banned from visting the country for 3 years. FMS says the reason is "their declared purpose of visit - cultural activity - did not match what they really were doing". But nobody was going to put them in a prison.

Isakov was released after an hour. Then he reported the cops who were too rude with him to the Attorney of Kazan.
He intends to get them charged, and now they're about to be (December, 12th). I can link the sources if you want to see, but they're in Russian (maybe Google translator will help a little).

P.S. I just visited Isakov's VK page and he says that he was judged for that summer campaign today and fined 4,000 rubles (~$120). Not good, but kinda different from imprisonment or "burning alive", isn't it?

Next news of the day. :(

I think it's probably appropriate at this point to post part of the transcript of an interview between Stephen Fry and Simon Lokodo, the Ugandan Minister for 'Ethics and Integrity'.

Stephen Fry
There's no rape in Africa is there? There's no young girls being raped in Africa..

Simon Lokodo
There are but not-

SF
oh there are thousands of them so surely heterosexuality is far more dangerous to children then homosexuality. Far more! It's a country where heterosexual rape is almost endemic!

SL
I say. Let. Them. Do. It.

SF
Oh 'let them do it' ?

SL
But let them do it the right way.

SF
Oh let them do it the right way? Let them rape children the right way? What are you talking about?

SL
I'm saying, at least it is natural way of desiring sex.
