Personally, I wish that PD would just grow some testicles and say "No, we're not putting a livery editor in the game because we think it detracts from gameplay/we don't have the manpower/Kaz was touched by a livery editor when he was a child/whatever". If they don't wanna do it, just say so.

I agree. It would be wise of Kaz to just come out and say PD is unwilling to add a livery editor. However there will be complaints about it. Which is worse, 1) Saying GT6 won't be having a livery editor and deal with the complaints until it dies down, or 2) Not saying anything at all over "technically possible" and let your fans down.

It's so simple to select (1). Take the complaints, at least that's better than disappointing your fans.

As much as I would like a livery editor, it wouldn't have a place in the GT series and PD wouldn't know how to pull if off at a level that would please anyone. I say this because I've always seen GT as a subtle and refined game series, and it just wouldn't seem right to drive around online with little kids writing swears on their cars and disturbed old men sticking ponies on them. One Idea I would love though, is like a historic or modern livery set for each car, like 5 different ones for each car eligible.

After seeing the type of people who play online in GT5, a lot of whom aren't exactly gentlemen-like, I don't think a livery editor would ruin GT's image.

You think its wise to jump the gun? Kaz cant win.People want PD to be more interactive with the fans but if he's vague, people complain about his vagueness, if he jump the gun and announce features before they are final and the features end up missing the final game he will get flack, if he says no it wont be in the game and it ends up actually being in the game he will have to suffer with unnecessary complaints. If its a possibility its a possibility, and if he dont know he dont know, its as simple as that.Im sure the day they finalize rather it will make it or it wont they will inform us in the ensuing interview

As opposed to the people driving around in reverse on tracks with gold chrome Ferraris, I'm sure.

I've said it before and I think I should say it again: Kaz showed that livery editor is coming to GT5 at. TGS 2006. I'm sure it's a feature in GT6, why would he just throw it away? Especially if he knows that we want it.

I don't know if it applies directly, but if you look at people's avatars in Call of Duty, half of them are just a bunch of genital pictures. So, imo, they don't want to let everyone drive around with those kind of pics on their cars. I could be wrong.

We can listen to kids curse on mics and c.urse in the chat box and draw penises ( =====D) all day but when it comes to curse words on the car we have to draw a line ? I just don't see the rationale behind this thinking. If you find anything offensive kick them or leave 💡

I would like to point out that Kaz mentioned PD doesn't look at other games for reference. So to me its understandable that they don't have traditional to racing games type of livery editor and paint system.I personally think they should look at other games :). Amar makes valid points, you cant say just because its not as good as other games or good in general that its not a livery editor.Considering theres no definite definition for livery editor, it does fall in to the category of livery editor despite how crappy it is.

Well yeah, I understand that. That's why I said if Kaz saids no, there will be complaints, and that's okay cause it will occur. In the next interview I hope we get a answer at least so things can be calmer again.

I just realized that the only people not wanting this are those who race online. Since when should online-play affect single player?

Edit: I should say majority, not only.

We've been though this several times in this thread. There are a number of fairly simple ways to deal with the issue. Reporting functions, toggles to only show own/friends liveries, and so on.

Not having a livery editor because someone might draw a penis on their car is like banning independent publishing because somebody might make a porn magazine.

Instead we get this wishy washy mixed message of yes we want to put it in but no we can't just yet because difficult PS3 RSX memory overflow moon phases with cheese. I hate the current trend (that all game companies seem to have) of hiding anything that would be deemed a negative statement and hoping customers won't notice, instead of just manning up and being honest.

Yeah, in reality that would be nice and would garner more respect from many of us.
However, marketing is all about perception, not reality.
They might aleinate some of the naive potential buyers of the game.
Nevermind that it will aleinate many of the "non naive" buyers.
And they can continue to claim they are including something under the guise of a "livery editor".
Sony and PD certainly know that a livery editor is a common feature in most games now, and a qualifier for an "up to date" game.
The guys on the marketing side only care about gettin um to buy the game.
Once thats done, the rest doesn't matter, their job is over.

All of this has been a concern of mine, since Kaz tied the knot with Sony.

That is both closed minded and ignorant. As has been said numerous times, things like that can be blocked with report features or only allowing people you actually race with.

^ But it gets tiresome doing it all the time. People want to enjoy online, not keep going back and forth- kicking people.

Certainly. I just like calling people on it when they describe what GT has as a livery editor. It's really, really not.

Attempting to call such a thing a livery editor is a joke. It's not one, it's something a marketing company would do hoping that customer wouldn't notice until too late that what's in GT is in no way comparable to what is featured as a livery editor in other games.

People can call it whatever they like, but if it doesn't do the things that livery editors do, it's probably not a livery editor.

This! 👍

At the same time though, you will get immature people regardless if you have Livery editor or not. Your not gonna stop immature people from being in the lobbies ever so the idea that having no livery editor will somehow "stop" childlish people is foolish.

Also, you don't have to go kicking people if you only use private lobbies.

They already have a pseudo livery editor in the RM function. It would take some work obviously but you could make up 100 or 200 liveries similar to RM's, to be used on any car or select cars. No it wouldn't be as cool as being able to edit each individual piece on the car but it's better than what we have. They might also separate it into panels like bonnet, roof, doors etc...so you can mix and match things.

That sure would be a lot more work for a graphics artist compared to a programmer making a livery editor.

Sooo, in order to get a livery editor, Sony has to basically get rid of Kaz just for "one" feature. If that's it than wow.... -_-

Or just give him a nice kick in the butt. ;)

Everything good and everything bad is because Kaz. I actually wouldn't mind a new PD or non-PD leader, but it likely won't happen any time soon.

Stupid arguements against livery editor? Hasn't anyone seen games rated E that have "online play not subject to rating system"

When is the next big games show that might shed some more light on whats coming?

Is it gamescom on the 21st August?

Please let us know whats happening in relation to the livery editing and put me out of my misery PD!

I forgot to post something relevant...as usually arcade racing games always get the point when it comes to customization.

As an example watch the Grid 2 customization:

And here something quite similar to the good old days of NFS Carbon which had a function called "Autosculpt" in where you could change the size of each part independent.
Wheels mostly like you will see here:

Man come on, is really that hard to make something like that?

I can't believe this is constantly being brought up as reason against a livery editor. I can honestly say I may have come across 1 or 2 offensive liveries in all my time in Forza or Shift2 to name a couple. There is a reporting system in Forza to weed out the dimwits. The good FAR out weigh the bad, I am amazed at the talent and creativeness of the artists.
In addition, if GT5 is a simulator, why not simulate real life and let the car owners display their individualism.
Over the years, I have always had to customize my IRL cars in subtle but unique ways, I don't want to be just one of the flock/colony/gaggle/herd.

That alone or something similar would be an epic first go around for GT on Livery Editing. Most of us would be happy at this point with relatively simple in-game, fixed menu editing, although something more wide open would be preferable.

I honestly just want to be able to put a racing number on the side of my car with a basic body kit that is already offered in GT.

That's all.

I'm ALL for Livery Editing! I hate racing with the same car as 3 or 4 other people or the AI in a race. If PD adds the Livery Editing, this problem will never occur! Plus, I think they'll be amazed of what kind of creativity and originality some of these players have. If GT6 were to have a decent Livery Editor it honestly would bring a lot of appeal back to the GT Series! In addition, How could one not want to express themselves with a unique racing scheme? Also, I think you should also be able to share the Livery's you make! Ya know? just to show the community your creativity and imagination. It will also replace having to do RM for EVERY car in the game. You could just add your own race scheme, add a spoiler, some tires, some upgrades, maybe an engine swap, wheels and Add on a Bodykit (If they are present in GT6) Then BOOM! you have yourself a Racing Modification!

Been waiting for livery editor and race builder tool the most. I want to make my own championships and select which cars are in (picking ones ive made for the competition too) probably wont happen....

With a "pre-made" livery editor like GRID 1 and now GRID 2 all the obscene liveries argument become old. You can't make your own design you can just choose what developers are giving you.
There are 2 bigs advantages:
1 - no way to create obscene content
2 - very fast way to create a custum livery

So, no more excuses, it's just a matter of no livery editor because no.
